In the summer when the agreement was made, nobody was willing to pay 275k.
How were the board to know Kenny would hit a rich vein of form and suddenly have interest in him?
They struck the deal with him on the basis that nobody would pay 275k for him in summer.
I think it was a case of the board saying, we have a player here who is worth 275k in compensation to us, but nobody wants to pay it for whatever reason (probably due to his inconsistency). What can we do???
    1. Let him go for feck all!
    2. Let him go for an amount that someone is willing to pay (100k maybe)!
    3. Ask Kenny to sign a 2 year deal (which he didn't have to) on the condition that if someone comes in during that period with a fee similar to the compensation fee, then he could go with the clubs best wishes.
Yes, it's shit because on current form he probably is worth more, but his pre-summer form wasn't good enough to convince anybody to pay the compo.

    275k
NO CLUB thought Kenny was worth that kind of money in summer, so he was basically forced to sign a new contract with us.
Kenny has then gone on to have a great start to the season, playing better and more consistently than he has ever done in the past.
All of a sudden somebody thinks he is worth that compo fee.
I can totally see why the BOD made that agreement with Kenny in the summer because nobody was willing to pay a penny for him.
It is fine to say he is worth this or that, but you need a buyer first. In summer they thought that getting 275k for him was a good deal.
If that fee hadn't been set then Mclean wouldn't have signed for 2 years. He would have signed for 6 months or a year and then we would have been just looking at the compensation fee anyway.
The BOD's hands were tied. I don't blame them in the slightest.
I think at the end of the day, if Kenny had left in the summer for 275k compo, not too many people would have been upset by that, but Mclean has been nothing short of fantastic this season, which really could not have been foreseen.
    Get off the BOD's backs...

Where on that statement does it say "no release clause"?
It only says agreements were made. It doesn't say whether they were verbal or contractual.
If Kenny agreed in summer to sign a new deal on the agreement that if a bid of a certain amount comes in for him, then he is free to go, fair enough. If it was a contractual agreement, then there is f**k all we could do about it. If it was a verbal one, then we would have been complete cunts to have gone back on our word.

250k - 300k is exactly what I expected for Kenny. I said this on the other "Kenny Mclean" thread the same day Fleetwood put in their bid.
Anyone on here saying we should be getting more is in DREAMLAND.
NO TEAM'S were willing to pay the compo of around 300- 400k for him in the summer, but after a couple of months great form, he is suddenly worth 750k - £1M????
We as fans can value a player at whatever we like, but if nobody is willing to pay it, then we won't get it.
Basically Kenny's form has convinced a club to now part with that compo, albeit in the form of a transfer fee rather than a compo fee.
Kenny's form hasn't been consistent over a long enough period of time to be considered a million pound player, hence why no club has come forth with such a bid.
As for the buyers paying for potential.... Kenny Mclean is 23 years old and played around 150 times. Any potential has usually been achieved by this point. He might improve little parts of his game at a bigger club, but he won't improve dramatically.
The word potential can be used for Mallan or McGinn.
300k is about all we could have hoped for to be honest.
I am sure I will be accused of being negative and talking down our players etc etc, but all I did was take off my "black & white goggles" for a second and became realistic.

They also said that Kenny fulfilled his side of the agreement with his performances this season.
Unless our players are contractually obliged to play well that is. (which would mean we could punt a fair few for breach of contract)

Sounds like the most likely scenario.
Probably frees up a fairly sizeable wage too.
As disappointed as I am to see him go, I wish him good luck to Kenny in the future.
A couple of own goals when we play the sheep wouldn't go amiss.

We are basically getting just a little bit short of what we would have been due in summer if someone had been willing to pay it.
Fact is though, nobody was willing to pay it in summer. Probably due to Kenny being so inconsistent.
Now that Kenny is showing a bit of consistency someone is willing to pay it. Quite simple really.
Right now, Kenny is playing like a £1m player, but he doesn't show it over long enough periods, which is why his fee is about right.
And I'm sorry, but the buying potential thing really doesn't add up for me. A 23yo who has played 150 times isn't potential, he's the finished article.

Yes, the decisions against us recently have been suspect at best and scandalous at worst, but we are playing terrible which makes these decisions even more destructive to us.

If we were a decent team, who were playing well and winning games, these decisions would go almost unnoticed. Unfortunately though, we are pish and it only takes one bad decision to completely sink us.

We are putting ourselves in positions where refereeing calls are deciding our fate.

Older posters, blah blah. I've been alive for all our European ties.
St Mirren could get Europe on the back of say £500K investment, Girona wouldn't survive in La Liga on that. Hell, they need that to get out of administration.

The going after two clubs at once is strange, usually one club is in place already. Watford didn't do too badly from the Udinese link, NYCFC and Melbourne obviously see the benefit of the Man City link. It has to be said that we could get to Europe with a lot less investment than Girona, whilst on he other hand La Liga would be a better showcase league even on British television should Girona get there. One club to put better players through, another for lesser names? Obviously La Liga has quotas for squad size and non-EC but also has the nationalisation and in via a Spanish passport.

Such a gloating patronising wanky post. Coupled with a constant inability to use the quote function. Deary me. I think if you read tsu's post properly he said the Spanish league would be a better showcase. Even on brittish tv coverage the Spanish league is a better showcase as it gets more coverage than the Scottish league.
