athens-saint got a reaction from faraway saint in St Mirren give Barnsley permission to speak to JR
Jack has a fantastic knowledge of the Scottish game.  And good connections. He`s tapped into that by picking up a few real gems.
It`s a big risk for Barnsley. Jack`s knowledge of the lower leagues in England has to be limited. Also, he has no transfer window to shuffle things around (as he did with us).
In saying that, what sets Jack apart from the rest is his man-management skills. He`s sharp and he`s a winner.
    I think he will stay.
Ross hasn't`t won anything yet. A Barnsley relegation on his CV could be harmful. If he goes now it could damage his long term future.
If he plays the waiting game he can probably take his pick of a number of bigger clubs in the summer or beyond.
Jack has to be looking at (or speaking with) McInnes. Sometimes England isn`t the best option.
    There is hope!

athens-saint got a reaction from St.Ricky in Aberdeen v St Mirren Bet Fred Cup
The last time St Mirren came toe-to-toe with a Premiership club was the 5-0 defeat to Partick Thistle in the Betfred Cup group stage in July.
Jack Ross knows the team will have to be at their best to prevent another defeat like that.
The gaffer said: "We didn't play well on the day and Partick played very well, but I got some things wrong in terms of how I approached the game. That was good for me, because I learned from that.
Would be interesting to know what he did that day as we were rank rotten!!!

    We need quality over quantity.
Is this not the responsibility of the moderators?
Just look at the Jamie Langfield thread.
The first thread I looked at today (because it was at the top) and surprise surprise it ends predictably.
This forum might be popular but it could be so much better.
I love coming here but it is getting tiresome.
    Don`t you agree?

Let`s face it the original poster has a point.
The forum used to be a hotbed for St.Mirren-related discussion but the quality has decreased in recent years.
Most of the threads start positively but quickly turn to childish bitching (usually by the same dull members).
It`s a chore to sift through pages of egotistic/obnoxious/verbal diarrhoea just to find something vaguely on-topic.
Others posters find it hilarious and necessary to post absolute nonsense.
Many posts are impossible to read because of the atrocious use of the English language.
Instead of allowing posters to walk away why don`t we accept that we need to make the forum better?
    Why not raise the standards?
It is important to do this now more than ever because of other outlets such as St.Mirren radio and TV.
    Just a thought.

    Having a moan?
I only posted to show my support for someone who made a valid point only to be cut-down.
Similar "ta-ta" comments have now been made to me.
There is enough moaning on here for you to know I am not a moaner (far from it, check my history).
All I am saying is we need to listen to what this guy is saying...
Constructive criticism is what they call it!!!
I have suggested the mods get involved. Or why not make ME a moderator!
Perhaps we can cap the amount of posts per day?
Have a line of "express" threads with a hardline on bitching....?

Our youth system has been anything but a "disaster".
The youngsters have and always will be the mainstay of our team.
The problem is that there is no money to be made in developing young players these days.
How Hamilton can punt players for 1m I will never know!? (Hendrie? Dodgy Big Sam?).
Shame, but football is a different game these days.
On a side note, I see McGinn thanked SMFC for the last thirteen (13) years.
Sad it ended that way...10k per year! Makes you want to cry.
Simple Verdict: Modern football is shite.
PS. Last decent player we lost to Hibs was Lavety and he went for around 120k too, if I recall correctly.

Douglas McNeil has confirmed on Twitter that: "St.Mirren won`t be offering deals to any of the new triallists who featured against Burnley!"
"New" indicates to me that those who played only v Burney are the ones who are off.

Looking at the BBC today has left me questioning the long-term sustainability of full-time Scottish football.
Considering recent events some of the "football" decisions are a little shortsighted.
The implosion of Scottish football (armageddon?) never happened. We can survive...
But all of our clubs need to be prudent....or part-time football surely beckons.
I don`t claim to be an economist but I do wonder what kind of people are running Scottish football clubs.
    For example, from today`s news:
    1. Rangers signing Danny Wilson.
RFC reportedly on the brink again. Tangled up with Ashley. Leaving an SPFL club for the Championship.
It`s Rangers...I get it...but they must be offering him a big contract in return.
    High risk...
    2. Kilmarnock giving a three year contract to Jamie MacDonald.
A 3 year deal seems excessive to me....
That is a long term investment in an average player.
    High risk...
I understand how frustrating it is to sit around waiting for a new manager and new players.
But I`d rather SMFC didn`t follow suit and made deals only that make financial sense to us.
If Gow is all we can afford then that must be our reality.....1 year deals make sense to me.
Low risk is what makes sense to me.
