Sue Denim
The white middle class left lockdown has shifted the burden of the virus onto the elderly, the vulnerable, the poor and the working class.

Sue Denim
One of the ironies of lockdown is that covid is mostly spread in people’s homes and yet I’ve spent more time in other folk’s homes in the past year than ever before as a result of lockdown. What can I say, I’m a very popular guy. Looking forward to my usual Sat night gathering at the in laws tomorrow night 🍺🍺🍺 Lockdown has been personally brilliant for me. Cheers 😃👍
Sue Denim
Ian Scanlon’s left peg was one of the best in the business. Alex Miller was known as a defensive manager yet one of the first things he did was switch Scanlon to the right wing so he could inside and he had his best goalscoring run Who remembers his 30 yarder against Celtic in the 4-2 game McDougall, McAvennie & Scanlon. What a forward line.

Sue Denim
I can’t congratulate Sevco on winning their first major tophy Scum but well done on their supporters celebrations today as much as anything else, it’s a working class reaction against the “I’m alright Jack” middle class left restrictions supported by the the selfish middle class likes of @Bud the Baker and @bazil85

Unlike you Cap'n I'm not a bitter fantasist quoting irrelevant statistics that I don't understand... Oh and you could have congratulate Sevco on winning their first major "tophy" if you wanted... You should've stuck to posting about long ball theory Cap'n, you only looked eccentric then - not a mad cunt...

You have made up an agenda regarding who supports restrictions while often sharing stats & data that show why everyone should support restrictions... Ultimately the support for suppressing this terrible virus is linked to a persons common sense not political/ social status.
faraway saint
Interesting, from a year ago............................ I'm a doctor and an Infectious Diseases Specialist. I've been at this for more than 20 years seeing sick patients on a daily basis. I have worked in inner city hospitals and in the poorest slums of Africa. HIV-AIDS, Hepatitis,TB, SARS, Measles, Shingles, Whooping cough, Diphtheria...there is little I haven't been exposed to in my profession. And with notable exception of SARS, very little has left me feeling vulnerable, overwhelmed or downright scared. I am not scared of Covid-19. I am concerned about the implications of a novel infectious agent that has spread the world over and continues to find new footholds in different soil. I am rightly concerned for the welfare of those who are elderly, in frail health or disenfranchised who stand to suffer mostly, and disproportionately, at the hands of this new scourge. But I am not scared of Covid-19. What I am scared about is the loss of reason and wave of fear that has induced the masses of society into a spellbinding spiral of panic, stockpiling obscene quantities of anything that could fill a bomb shelter adequately in a post-apocalyptic world. I am scared of the N95 masks that are stolen from hospitals and urgent care clinics where they are actually needed for front line healthcare providers and instead are being donned in airports, malls, and coffee lounges, perpetuating even more fear and suspicion of others. I am scared that our hospitals will be overwhelmed with anyone who thinks they " probably don't have it but may as well get checked out no matter what because you just never know..." and those with heart failure, emphysema, pneumonia and strokes will pay the price for overfilled ER waiting rooms with only so many doctors and nurses to assess. I am scared that travel restrictions will become so far reaching that weddings will be canceled, graduations missed and family reunions will not materialize. And well, even that big party called the Olympic Games...that could be kyboshed too. Can you even imagine? I'm scared those same epidemic fears will limit trade, harm partnerships in multiple sectors, business and otherwise and ultimately culminate in a global recession. But mostly, I'm scared about what message we are telling our kids when faced with a threat. Instead of reason, rationality, openmindedness and altruism, we are telling them to panic, be fearful, suspicious, reactionary and self-interested. Covid-19 is nowhere near over. It will be coming to a city, a hospital, a friend, even a family member near you at some point. Expect it. Stop waiting to be surprised further. The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. But our own behaviors and "fight for yourself above all else" attitude could prove disastrous. I implore you all. Temper fear with reason, panic with patience and uncertainty with education. We have an opportunity to learn a great deal about health hygiene and limiting the spread of innumerable transmissible diseases in our society. Let's meet this challenge together in the best spirit of compassion for others, patience, and above all, an unfailing effort to seek truth, facts and knowledge as opposed to conjecture, speculation and catastrophizing. Facts not fear. Clean hands. Open hearts. Our children will thank us for it.
FTOF
Quote The fact is the virus itself will not likely do much harm when it arrives. Sadly all of his "scared" moments seemed to be based on the above "fact", which have him dismissing the effects of the disease and suggesting that we were over reacting. It would be interesting to see his views just now, give that Covid isn't "just flu".

It should be remembered that, rather than just broadcasting the big numbers, and certainly not forgetting every number is a person with family and friends, the deaths per million is .18% in the big bad UK. No one could have seen the effects this has had. His overwhelming message is the effects of scaremongering and making a bad situation worse and the selfishness of people. There's definitely an element referring to scaremongering, and TBH he simply referred to all of the things that I'd imagine most rational people worried about. However his use of the phrase that I quoted was quite telling and dismissive IMO. I'm sure that others will have a different interpretation. I'd also say that for every example of genuine "scaremongering" that there will events that were dismissed as "scaremongering" which actually came to pass and were indeed as bad as initially predicted. The main thing that did for us was our lack of preparedness for this type of event, in every aspect of every day life. e.g. The Health service, financial institutions, education etc. We seem to have adopted, pre-pandemic, the attitude that "it'll never happen". Also, it's not just the deaths caused by the virus though. To give one example below.
