  1. 1. Who do you want in the Scottish Cup 4th round?

    • Greenock Morton - a proper Renfewshire derby!
    • One of the Old Firm - let's concentrate on the league this year and make some gate/TV money!
      0
    • An easy-peasy home tie against lower league opposition! (option does not include Greenock Morton)
    • An away day at an atmospheric old ground, like Somerset Park! (option does not include Cappielow)
    • Another club (please specify)

With the draw live on the BBC this Sunday, who do you want in the Cup?

The poll is scheduled to close on Sunday at 19.15. :)

My preferred option has to be Morton, preferably away. Failing that I would like Thistle at Firhill, as I know quite a few Plastic Whistle fans.

I thought I would list the fixtures here along with which clubs I think will be in the draw (emboldened):

Albion Rovers v Bonnyrigg Rose
Annan Athletic v Dumbarton
Brora Rangers v Pollok
Broxburn Athletic v Buckie Thistle
Cumnock Juniors v Broomhill
Dunbar United v Alloa Athletic
Dunfermline Athletic v Raith Rovers
Falkirk v Formartine United
Greenock Morton v Bo'ness United
Hamilton Academical v Kelty Hearts
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Cowdenbeath
Montrose v Edinburgh City
Clyde v Jeanfield Swifts
Partick Thistle v Queen's Park
Peterhead v Ayr United
Queen of the South v Dundee United
Stirling Albion v Cove Rangers
Stranraer v Airdrieonians
The Spartans v Arbroath
Tranent v Forfar Athletic

For the easiest passage, a home draw to any of these would be fine (perhaps with the exception of Dundee Utd or Raith Rovers).

I would quite like an away trip to any of these: Albion Rovers, Dumbarton, Pollok, Broomhill, MORTON (obviously!), Hamilton, Partick Thistle, Ayr Utd, Stirling Albion & Airdrieonians. Pollok would be brilliant, though I believe the capacity has been severely restricted.

I would be hugely disappointed if we get ICT away! :(

I'm guessing @faraway saint would quite like an away trip to Arbroath?

Pollok away for me

As I stated, I would love that, but:

Newlandsfield's capacity was restricted to 900 for their 2022 Scottish Cup tie vs Huntly, due to ground licensing conditions, but returned to 2088 in September 2023.

2,088. How many tickets would we get? 1,000? There would be an almighty scramble for tickets, as we have 3,500 season ticket holders. I wonder how they would be allocated? First come, first serve, presumably? They would be sold out in hours.

Lowest ranked team in the tournament at home, no brainer.

Purely from a sense of progression, aye. But when else are we likely to get a Renfrewshire derby? Wouldn't that be more of an occasion to savour?

Pollok away would be good as it would likely be picked for TV and that club's just 5 miles from the Paisley/Glasgow boundary.

For me, Firhill is a single bus journey and would involve about five minutes' walking from door to my stadium, all in. Plus I have a few Thistle supporting friends.

Any away day to a lower league side means potentially seeing a new ground or visiting one I've seldom been to. :)

I cannot be annoyed travelling too far, though. Keep it quite local - Falkirk being the furthest. I hope we're spared a trip to the Highlands, particularly!

The worst scenario is obviously an away game to a fellow SPL side or ICT.

Given Morten no longer exist in Renfrewshire why do people continue to refer to this game as a “derby”.

I suppose because it is a historical county, which existed from the end of last century until the 1970s and so coincided with the rivalry for most of the clubs' existence. Perhaps we should find another local club to establish a rivalry with, because this one's very one-sided?!

Our nearest SPFL club is surely Rangers? But I don't think they're ever likely to see us as rivals. How about Partick Thistle? Their traditional rivals, Clyde, are nearly deid...as I suspect we will discover tonight. Then again, it's been a few years since they were in the top-flight, now. :(

Clearly a joke you are not familiar with.

Nah, that would be Hamilten, not Morten. Just admit ye f**ked up and we can move on. Trying to wriggle out of it is just embarrassing yourself.

Nope. 👎

It’s a very common reference to our Inverclyde neighbours on pie and bovril. 👋

@shull, are the draw numbers for the next round out, yet? They're done alphabetically, aren't they?

Bonnyrigg Rose
Dumbarton
Brora Rangers
Buckie Thistle
Broomhill
Alloa Athletic
Raith Rovers
Falkirk
Greenock Morton
Kelty Hearts
Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Montrose
Clyde
Partick Thistle
Ayr United
Queen of the South
Cove Rangers
Airdrieonians
The Spartans
Forfar Athletic

+ 12 SPL sides.

My preference:

1) Away to Greenock Morton

2) Home to Greenock Morton

3) Away to Partick Thistle

4) Home to Partick Thistle

5) Away to any of: Airdrieonians, Ayr Utd, Clyde or Dumbarton

6) Home to any of the League 2 or non-SPFL clubs

7) A home tie

I really hope we do not get ICT away, or another SPL side away...though at least with the Old Firm away we'll make some money from it.

What we'll get: Motherwell.

Yes, we are 31.

Despite claims to the contrary, the draw will be rigged with lower-league sides being paired up with league 2 teams and there will be a sprinkling of all premiership ties, maximum of 2.

Any "giant-killing" (what fekkin giants?) will take place on frosty or boggy pitches in the hell-holes of Ayrshire or similar and not on a Saturday afternoon.

Places I hope to avoid are

  • Anywhere beginning with a B or a K
  • Any team whose name starts with The
  • Inverness & Dingwall
