Oldfellow reacted to Wilbur in Next St Mirren Manager
Our next long-term manager must be someone with a strong personality, someone imposing that the players will listen to. The worst appointment we could have would be some lovely guy with all the right coaching badges and the roar of a squirrel. For instance big Starky is a nice bloke with the appropriate coaching credentials but I can't envisage him as the motivational type.
We have many good players in the squad and maybe all those guys need is a good kick up the backside. But we also have more than our share of dead wood, guys that give their best whenever they are selected but they will never be good enough for St Mirren. Last summer's signings, especially Caldwell and Ball, have offered little and the longer we persevere with guys like them the quicker we will secure our relegation. Bring in someone ruthless to put them (and us) out of our misery.

Feel exactly the same. For the last 47 years I have attended , I reckon , 95% of our matches home and away, sometimes 100%. I'm not quite sad enough to miss Weddings, Funerals etc and have missed the occasional game because of work . I even try , not always successfully, to organise holidays around games. That has caused a lot of friction at home and lots of things have been missed because of my obsession.
I have witnessed the dreadful early seventies and the poor nineties..
This however is the worst I've felt . Having said that Danny's four years apart from one thing were poor as well but not as bad as this.
I really lost interest at Hamilton on Saturday. That has never happened before.
I do not blame the manager or players . He and most of the players are out of their depth but they were employed by us and have rights. The blame lies with those who run the club . I applaud the BOD for getting us out of debt. They have been successful in that . They have however spent the money we do have foolishly and made poor decisions and thats why we are where we are. I also dont think our infrastructure is all it should be . Our youth and commercial set ups appear inadequate to me although I'm no expert so maybe I'm being unfair. We really have not developed at all since coming up 9 years ago.
I sense an apathy around the club and a staleness at all levels. That needs a major shake up . At previous AGMs there has been a smugness from Mr Gilmour. It will be interesting to see if that continues tomorrow.
Perhaps St.Mirren has been too big a part of my life but whats happening now is a huge kick in the teeth . I feel pissed off and helpless.

Good point . Same could be said for Friday night games as I suspect ourselves and Thistle may be enthusiastic to try that again . I appreciate that most changes are because of televised games and Brian has no control over that but for those games not on TV that we want to change can we please do so now .

The BOD are being very selfish in this . The situation must be resolved if we are to start planning for next season . Another start like last season will make their asset worth even less so it may rebound on them .
Leaving that aside their treatment of Danny verges on cruel and shows them up as a bunch of heartless amateurs .Not the sort of way we want our club to be represented . I wonder how much they have been to blame for this season in putting uncertainties in the way..

With our future in the top division now confirmed I would expect (if any/all of the rumours are true) that we could see a number of important developments in the very near future.
Is St Mirren on the verge of being sold ?
Will we see Swiss Tony and his fellow Toblerone-chompers put pen to paper and seal the deal ? Or is there someone else lurking in the background with money to burn ?
Will it still be DL in the manager's office or is someone else already lined up ?
What about players who will leaving the club ? Who is getting shown the door, who will be offered new contracts ? Who is deciding on new players for next season ? Will we see Harkins back in Paisley or could he stay at Oldham ?
Exciting times, but please get things moving ASAP to get a stable structure in place long before next season's kick-off.

I've got a lot of sympathy for Danny. He is clearly out of his depth and should have gone ages ago but it would be unreasonable to expect him to walk . He has a family to support.
I have no sympathy at all for BOD . They could have taken the necessary action ages ago . I wonder also what restraints they have put on Danny ? Either way they and they alone are to blame for where we are . At AGMs they come across as smug and everyone bows to them as saviours of the club . Infact the club they own is a shambles playing performance and commercial wise.. It is dead and needs a total revamp in all areas. The sooner they sell up the better albeit I know I need to watch what I wish for .
On the manager front , whoever is going to lead us next season , in whatever league , needs to be in post now to start preparing for next season . An appointment in July is too late.

Bad decisions are part of the game - a team should be able to rise above them, should even be able to raise their game in response to them. In itself this game adds nothing significant to the should he stay or should he go debate it's just another drip in the Chinese water torture that we have endured this season.
We're currently 11th in the league and have the poorest form of the bottom six clubs since Jan 1st when the transfer window opened - there's still the H2H games post-split to play but I'd suggest it would be taking optimism to the extreme to think that we'll finish anywhere but the play-off spot at which point even our BoD will be forced to act.

Like you Drew I get the impression Danny is an extremely nice guy and probably gives too much respect to his work force. I feel for the man as I'm sure he has gave it his best shoot and feels he has done enough to be down as "successfully" as kept us in the SPL up till now and won a national trophy. However it's St Mirren that's important most of all and a change is needed.

I'm puzzled as to why the powers that be are even considering Heart's request to have the transfer embargo lifted.
This is a club that blatantly spent money they didn't have , to get glory . If they had not signed Craig Beattie a couple of seasons ago we and not they would have progressed to the cup semi .
They still have enough players to carry on .
Where we would they get the money to sign/ pay new players - yet again by spending money they dont have .
What would happen if by some miracle , signing new players put them on a run that got them off bottom place . The relegated club , possibly us , would have been screwed .
Thet play ICT in the league cup semi . How would ICT feel about playing a strengthened side ?
In short they must be shown no leniency.
