turrabuddie reacted to Saint Garf in Luke Conlan
He got caught out of position a few times against Rangers, but they're very strong down the right, every left back in the league will get a tough time from them. Other than that he's never stood out as being particularly good or bad. Certainly not to blame for either of the defeats we've suffered.

Black screen when I logged on, but picture appeared once I refreshed it.
Too late to see any build up and switched off as soon as game was over, so cannot comment on that, however, the picture quality for the match itself was pretty good and Mr. "Bubble diddnae Burst" Turner assisting with the commentary was a good idea.
TV broadcast was better than the two young lads who were on Saints Radio pre-match, but I am sure they'll get better with practice - which Im sure is the whole idea of the venture.
I'm looking forward tot he next match already.

I share the concerns that Ton may be more up for this than us, which is why we need to have Thommo and Goodwin on the park from the start. I'd be willing to risk a red card for JG for the leadership qualities I believe he'll bring to the side.

Goodwin may not be the answer but at the moment its all that we have. I would not like to think that the team is deprived because it has become a personal issue. I am not saying do not sign any other experienced players just play the ones that we have on our books today until that situation changes.

There is no question Goodwin should have been brought on even to the extent of holding on for a draw.It was evident to everyone we required his experience as the youngsters were being bossed about.Time to sort it Murray.

Agreed to a certain extent , however the press and the fact a larger crowd than normal will be at the game bring the derby feeling to the game. Have a feeling Morton and their fans will be more up for this than Saints. Hope I'm wrong

I just hope Murray knows how important the game on Friday is and I hope that he briefs the team on the importance , also . .
Remember , years ago when no one had explained the relevance to wee Anxious ?

Again , we have lost to Sevco with their borrowed millions, won a game and ok lost to Sons, not great but I seem to remember they usually beat us at home. Considering , (Shull observe) the Blue Scum have done to other teams , it shows when we click we will be a force
We have kids, it will take time for this team plus additions to gel.
Treble is still on- I have no doubt this is learning the curve period. I have total faith and believe and Murray will show how good he is this season. I did not have that feeling last season....................

Yes certainly in competitive games that is the case. Rangers 2nd and 3rd came down our right as did Dumbartons 2nd. I think Berwick's goal was down the right side of our team as well.
I'd give him a chance, he doesn't look like a natural left full-back but a converted one.

To be fair yesterday was the best I've seen him play.
He's big strong and determined. I think his better than he is showing. A lot of English boys have been coached at a "Higher level" than our boys and are used to being told exactly what to do and playing with players than are doing exactly what they have been told. Too often yesterday he was making passes to players that were not there. and expecting cover where it was not coming from. I think this is also part of Howison's problem as well.
Once he's settled he may go on to do well.
How's that for happy clapping

I get that Drew. I realise that it will take a wee bit of tinkering but we do not have until Christmas to sort out what works. I am pointing out we only have this season as next season we start it all over again. We desperately lack experience in the team in crucial positions and until we get better players for these positions we should use what we have assuming we are aiming for the play-offs. I was genuinely surprised on Saturday at the formation and personnel. It did not work so hopefully it will not be repeated.

How can Murray be expected to know what his best side is until he has tried a few different line-ups in competitive matches? I wouldn't class that as experimentation or practice. It is part of the process of adapting and getting the best fit. I'd be very surprised if many managers would claim to know their best line-up on day one of a season. They might have what they think is their best line-up in mind, but any number of factors can influence how it plays out when the action gets under way proper.
For example, Thompson was poor against Rangers. That was due, in part, to how he was utilised, but even taking that into account, his touch was poor, he was well off the pace, and couldn't impose himself on the game at all. I fully supported the decision to drop him for Saturday. Murray gave Gow a run-out, and he was anonymous. Hopefully he won't start again any time soon. All part of the learning process, and typical of early season games I would have thought. Murray has a decision to make regarding his front line. He will have countless others to make throughout the season.
Sorry, but the idea that the manager should have known and started with his 'best' line up is simplistic and unrealistic. The measure of the man will be how effectively - and how quickly - he learns from his mistakes, not whether he has made any in the first place.

The picture quality of the broadcast was very good - didn't get much of a chance to see if there was any build up and didn't hang around after the full time whistle. Looks like there was a recorded interview with Ian Murray at HT. Commentary was good - Tommy Turner ( i think it was he) was pretty good as the side-kick although some of the English maybe wasn't the best. "Ah've seen them given so ah huv" when Saints appealed for a penalty for handball.

I think most of us have overreacted. Its understandable. We all wanted to hit the ground running, and get a few morale boosting wins early in the season. No point in spitting the dummy and shouting about it not being fair when it didn't go our way. Its all part of a process. Hopefully things will start to shape up.

turrabuddie reacted to Doakes in Crucial Next 4 Games
Tbf I think many have overreacted massively.
In our 3 competitive games so far, we;
- beat Berwick comfortably
- were a penalty miss away from sneaking a draw (or possibly even a win) at Ibrox
- narrowly lost to the team sitting joint top of the league who beat Hibs the week before
Can understand people getting nervous, but ffs - give the guy a chance to get it right.

Between tomorrow and Saturday the 29th August we have 4 games in 11 days:
Annan (a) Challenge Cup 18/8
Morton (a) League 21/8
Livi (h) League Cup 25/8
Livi (h) League 29/8
Four games against teams who have finished below us every season for a decade. Four games which will go along way to defining how the rest of our season is going to go.
Progression in both cups and 4 or more points from the 2 league games and the outlook will be looking a lot rosier.
Getting knocked out in either cup and losing either of the league games.. Prognosis becomes pretty bleak.
Cup runs are good for the bank balance and for momentum. Progression in the two cups -especially the League Cup - is vital. The draw has been kind to us in both competitions, we really need to take advantage and get ourselves in the next round of both, by hook or by crook.
As for the league matches, failure to win either of these two upcoming games will have us already playing catchup to make the playoffs. Our September fixtures are tough, we are away in Dumfries and Leith and home to Falkirk and Raith. We really don't want to be going into those games still looking for our first win or even our first point...
We need to get off the mark against Morton and Livi, failure to do so and we will already be in danger of becoming cut off from the play off race. And of course, we will find ourselves in another relegation battle.
I think we will turn it around. Hopefully Murray bites the bullet and gets the experienced players back in the team. If he does I think we will get through both cup games and win the two league games. What do you think is going to happen?
