I think you have a point, and a lot of members don't scrutinise much what's going on. Those that attend the meetings do that, which is why I think the AGM is time for change. Those unhappy can put themselves forward or nominate others to stand for election to the Board.
While I don't doubt that the current SMISA board went into this with good intentions, I think they are far too comfortable in their positions and have stopped engaging with members.

Listening to the reports from Pitoddrie.

Sir Alex Ferguson in attendance. Capacity crowd.

Statue to their best manager being unveiled.

    What a great occasion.

    Question.

    WHY can't it be us?

    Yes... I know.

    We sacked him.
He took us to an industrial tribunal.
    He lost his case.
He severed all ties and was bitter towards us

    But...

Most fans who lived through his short tenure still consider him our best ever manager and themselves blessed.

Saints say they are "fan owned" now.

Sir Alex is a fans favourite.

When we left Love Street, my friend Michael wrote to Sir Alex who not only replied, but agreed to an interview for our book "Love Street, The Final Chapter".

One of my contributions to the book was an interview with my hero and childhood Roy of the Rovers, Tony Fitzpatrick.

The book was about Love Street so much of what Tony said was edited out. A lot of that was adulation of Sir Alex Ferguson, whom Fitzy regarded as years ahead of his time in creating a community club.

I wrote to Sir Alex and sent him a copy of the unedited interview. I wanted him to know how much his influence at Saints lived on.

To my astonishment, two weeks later, I received a reply on Man Utd headed paper.

A two page personal response, written between two very important European ties.

That is the measure of the man! In the eyes of many Saints fans, he is truly a legend. Hero. God.

So... As a fan owned club, can we apologise for how things ended. Thank him for bringing us back from the dead. Praise him for giving birth to the best footballing team I have ever supported.

Most of all... Offer the olive branch and mark his place in our history whilst he can attend.

A posthumous tribute is the alternative. How bitter sweet, ironic and hypocritical would that be?

    Let's honour Sir Alex now!

    General summary was -
We know we've been shite at communication, and we know this was spoken about at the last meeting, but we'll try and do better, honest.
We've had some teething problems, covid covid covid, but now everyone on the board are all friends, Jim and John are even going away for a spa weekend together.
Jim Gillespie is now no longer a Rangers fan and a fully fledged buddie, and rumours that Mark McMillan will be wearing a Celtic top under his suit at Parkhead tonight are wide of the mark.
We can't talk about loads of things for legal or confidentiality reasons, but nothing bad really happened, honest.
The SMISA board are great and making the right decisions.

Win percentage of around 50% in both jobs. His failures in both jobs were down to choking in big games, a bit like us last season.
He is probably the best out of work manager out there, despite what Aberdeen fans thought.

St. Mirren is no different to the other mid-table teams in the Premiership. Generally we pick our managers from clubs smaller than us and, if they are successful, we wave them goodbye and good luck when they move on to clubs bigger than us. Our latest example of that was JR moving to Sunderland.
All successful managers face the same question and JG will be no different. He'll be wondering 'Should I go now or wait for a better offer from down south?' His quandary is wondering whether his stock will be as high come the summer. If he waits till then, his chance might be gone.
Given that situation, what would any of us do? Would we really turn down the chance to double our wages, or more, knowing that the opportunity might never come again? Even if we fail with the new team, we will probably earn enough to make ourselves and our family comfortably off for a long time.
If JG gets the chance to go north and takes it, we should understand his situation, thank him for the good times he's given us, and wish him (not too) well in the Granite City. Then we start looking around the lower leagues again for the next JG. Sadly, that is football reality in 2022.

I think we need to be realistic though - only a few weeks ago some of our more moronic fan base were calling for him to be sacked. Jim will know that football management is very fickle, if he wants to make a career out of it there may be gambles he needs to take. Really hope he stays but wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

It would be a bit of a gamble for him. Expectations are unreasonably high there, even McInnes was sacked despite keeping them in the top 4 for most of a decade. However he would have a greater chance of winning things with them and raising his profile given the increased budget.
Hope he stays, but if not I'd be OK with Ross as his replacement. Hopefully he'll have learnt from his experiences at Sunderland and Hibs and not flirt with anyone who shows any interest in him. It would be like taking back your cheating ex after they've been dumped and hope they've learnt their lesson though.

Another fantastic game yesterday. On the basis of what we've seen so far, he is likely to become a star for us. Get him on a 5 year contract now.
I would hope there is some contrition from those who had written him off before seeing him play.
He has the potential to be our best signing from relative obscurity since McAvennie.

Think the first thing we should do is reimburse his travel expenses he paid out of his own pocket to come here... Not knowing when he'd get back home if things didn't work out for him... that takes a lot of balls and self confidence..
    Get it sorted Tony
