Surprised by the timing but not by the event. His dogmatic defence of his set up and tactics? were reason enough to let him go never mind the horrendous start we've had.

Pleased that the board made the right decision now rather than 2 months down the line, still time to save our season.

This next appointment could be the most important in the clubs history. We MUST find the right man now.
So the real question is who?

Ooft! I genuinely didn't see that one coming.
Fair enough though, can't argue with the decision.

There you go, swift decisive action from the board. Can't argue with it. Imperative now that we take our time and get the next appointment spot on.

Alex Rae saying that the reason for letting him go was to bring in another player who they had an eye on however the lad got injured but they have freed up some money to bring someone else in.

Did anyone expect us to be sitting at the foot of the table come mid September.
I think people, not unreasonably, expected that we might be in a position to battle it out for a play-off spot. To be honest, I wasn't so sure, but never did I anticipate us being as woefully off the pace as we are just now.

I don't think the board need to see the attendance dropping to know we are piss poor at the moment, hopefully they are speaking to the manager about performances and will act accordingly after he answers them.

If you lose interest and stop going to games then that's your choice and your entitled to it, personally i don't like what i'm watching at the moment but i know that staying away from our ground on matchdays will not help the situation and in fact would make the problem worse. Those who come out publicly and state "i'm not going until things are better" must surely realise that they are making it more difficult for things to get better - go to the games and moan or boo, packing it in will not help.

It is as you say Very Early days in the new scheme of things. I am sure many may echo your comments and thoughts, indeed watching programmes like 'Scotland's Game' might push most of us over the edge with feelings of despair and hopelessness?
we all have an opinion on where our game has gone wrong, or not reacted to changes in life and society. From players paid too much, sub standard foreign imports, youth sidelined, not enough youth, too much emphasis on youth etc, etc, we have actually been here before when Alex Ferguson came in and rejuvenated a seeming downward spiralling club.
what did he do to get the best out of everything, players, budget, facilities, fans???
he along with a few others sought to involve the whole community in the club, taking the club to the community. Yes you can argue different times, with less options to spend your freetime, but he got people who were not previously engaged with the club, and those who had drifted away back involved again.
much is said and made about all the other distractions for youth and armchair fans that sits at the root of our game's demise. But they have Playstations, Xbox and satelite TV in Spain, Germany, Holland, Iceland etc, and it doesnt seem to hamper them!
the club now needs to work to involve and engage with the whole community, as well as embracing and working with all the local youth sides, it is embarrassing we dont have a woman's team to inspire half the population to get involved with the club!
why isnt there a Polish/ Eastern European Saints fans group encouraged? How have the club reached out to the LGBT community, and demonstrated that they can see themselves represented at St Mirren? Why do we not invite groups of our elderly to Tea Dances in corporate or the 1877 club in the afternoons?
there is so much more we can do to take the club to the community, and a lot of that isnt just about football! Its about engagement, re-generation, helping others to do better for themselves and their families, helping to turn lives round by creating opportunities. If we solely focus on how the current manager is coping, then we will continue to repeat our pattern of behaviour that limits all the opportunities to build and strengthen the club.
One thing we can all surely agree on is 3000 odd people doing it the same way time after time doesnt bring the change we need.

Set up in the same 4-4-2 with the same midfield and we'll get gubbed.
Rae, for the love of god, change it up please.

IMO Rae does not rate us as a club and his demeanour about us and the player pool seems we are to be patronised more so than actually considered worthy of his respect. To date his reign and his pr spin about us and sound bite patronage back this up. It's overly negative to say the least.
As another poster said, he's a cock. It's difficult to disagree.
Fwiw I don't rate the guy, his track record sucks and afaiic he's a borderline volcanic eruption.
I don't see any cause for optimism, but would be delighted to be proved wrong , it would mean we were improving and the manager was getting results.
    If only..........

Say what you like about Ian Murray (and most of us have), he at least provided an honourable final act by falling on his sword when he realised he wasn't good enough.

You may well be right but the fact is, for the entire duration of the club being available for purchase there were the grand total of f**k all Sugar Daddies queueing up to plough Millions into Saints.

Ooooft... This isn't a Chelsea or Man City issue where they buy a player and then immediately send them out on loan because they can. This looks more like a boss who , either hasn't done his homework on the boy and now doesn't rate him (after a very short space of time) or they've fallen out.... Or both.
What it isn't .. Is that the manager has decided that we are so good at the back and things are going so well that we can send this lad out for experience.
Another opportunity for the manager to attract criticism .., and he's taken it

As good a shout as any mate, anything's better than having that flat middle two of Mallan and Hutton. The tactics/shape isn't fair on either on of them. Both players' games are being adversely affected by Rae's refusal to budge.
