youngbud1877 reacted to div in The Tam McGarry Young Player of the Year Award
For the past 13 years we have awarded our Player of the Year trophy at the end of every season. It's an award completely voted for by the fans and it's always been very popular and we hope it's one that is coveted by the players.
Starting from this season we have decided to launch a Young Player of the Year award to go alongside this and we are this very proud to announce that this will be named in memory of Saints fan Tam McGarry who sadly passed away this summer.
The naming of the award seems fitting given that Tam's son Steven came up through the ranks of the St.Mirren Youth setup, with his crowning moment in the stripes coming in that quite unforgettable season of 99-00.
Tam was one of the biggest Saints fans you could ever hope to meet, and again this award will be voted for by the fans toward the end of the current campaign and every year after that going forward.
Speaking to Steven this morning about our idea he said, "I think that would be very nice and very fitting, and as a family would be very proud that he would have an award named after him so thanks. We also appreciate all the support from all the fans over the last few weeks we have been all taken aback with all the message pictures and stories."
So there you go, the Tam McGarry Young Player of the Year Award is here. Let's hope the young guns come up trumps and give us plenty of options this season!

Baird and Morgan look like they're going to (deservedly) get plenty game time this season, but I'd also like to see a bit more of McLear after his exploits up front for the u20s in pre season.

Undoubtedly Thommo, Sean Kelly for me as vice captain though. He has matured and came along leaps and bounds as a player in his favoured position.
A key player in a key position for us now. Give the young lad a chance to prove himself and he'll be captain next season. Fantastic defender and potential leader.
    Age is but a number.

Felt we got better as the game went on. Pleased that Morgan had a good game as I was impressed with the glimpses I saw of him last season. Carswell was effective without doing anything spectacular - that was Agnew's role. First goal was fantastic and the second wasn't bad either. Conlan should be decent once he gets some fitness and McMullan was a bit quieter than last week, although was getting booted all over the place which didn't help. Howieson showed some nice stuff when he came on, although he was up against a tiring part-time League Two side.
Striker and an experienced centre-half still the priorities for me. Anyone know what was up with Gow? Wondered if he still had a Diddy Cup suspension hanging over him from years ago but no sign of one on the SFA site. Was in the main stand so hasn't stormed off in the huff. Hopefully not injured already.

Unlike some I was pleased by today's performance. Scored 3, 2 chopped off and hit the woodwork 3 times. We played some good football with good passing moves. Considering their ages and experience I thought Kelly and Baird had a good partnership against two lively and big Rangers strikers.
Where it did not work for us was Thommo with Mallan playing just behind him. Most good moves broke down at the edge of the box. Thommo unfortunately is too static these days. Mallan plays better in a deeper position.
Feeling a lot more positive now that I did last week considering we should have a few more players in over the next few weeks.

He was just about to sign when someone said "Cornell will be behind you". At which point, he started sweating and could be heard muttering "come for it, come for it" whilst rocking back and forth in his chair.
I suppose this also means his dad is still waiting to find out which club he's investing in next.

I'm also surprised that athe majority seem to be not impressed with howieson. He never wasted a pass all afternoon, was involved in all (few as they were) our attacks. Yes he never took anyone on, but he doesn't look like a winger to me. Play him in Agnews position and let aggy be backup or play wide - howieson was far more impressive than Agnew was on Saturday.

Strange how opinions differ I actually thought Howieson was impressive v Bradford. His distribution in particular for me was spot on.Re Conlan I would reserve judgment however the manager obviously sees something there.

Looks like we'll be drawing attendances of at least 3500-4000 next season with away fans and those opting to purchase on the day which is very positive for a club of our size in the second tier.
We an surely expect near full house attendances for the likes of Rangers, Hibs and Morton with Falkirk also bringing a good travelling support!!

    That's it confirmed. 3-1 Motherwell.
Nearly ten years as a top flight club ended by one of the worst, and most spineless, St Mirren teams I have had the misfortune to have seen since 1976. Shat it in two massive games where there was still a sniff of salvaging something - 5-0 and 3-0 defeats to Motherwell and Ross County. Signed known wasters like Arquin, Gow and Wylde. Sold Kenny McLean on the last day of the window. Bumped up the 'wheeler dealer we want' Gary Teale, after the unadulterated disaster that was Tommy Craig. Could hardly score a goal at one end of the park or keep them out at tbe other end.... all while wearing the worst kit since the bib, sanctioned by a BoD who will now, (after treating us like the knickerwetting keyboard warriors we obviously are), want to court us with a pleading request to renew STs for a Championship containing at least four clubs who will most likely kick our fcuking arses.
Two years and they cannot even update a couple of *** pan*ls. Three or four days after a young cancer hit St Mirren academy player wins a POTY award, and while the BBC and other news outlets run this feelgood factor story, they cannot even mention it on their own website.
Apart from that, look on the bright side. We'll have the best airdome in the division.

In amongst the unadulterated misery on Tuesday night, there was one little titbit of information that you may all find interesting. The commentator said, apparently, that John McGinn is the grandson of a former Celtic chairman. This was news to me and, frankly, I'm very surprised that all the 'in-the-know' Buds on here haven't revealed this before now.

Saw this on Herald website about the fear of playing at home. Certainly seems that way with the players. Or maybe they're just hopeless.

In the PDE they reported Cheesy had a race against time to be fit.
My monies on time as I don't think Cheesy has won a race yet this season.

I have been saying for months we will play rangers in the playoff. Think of the pressure there will be to get them back into the top league. Financially our game will benefit and the refs will be favouring them no doubt about it. You could script it now couldn't you. I don't know if I can face the prospect of a playoff to them. Make no mistake it is a game we wouldn't win not a chance. We have been so poorly run this year I actually think the board want to go down. I do not buy some people saying it's our turn to to be relegated. It shouldn't be in the weakest spl top flight in years. Had the board appointed the right man had he signed decent players and managed the team we would not be here nearing the end of the season without a home win. It is f**king ridiculous and our team is a bloody laughing stock. People can defend it all day and they can say we are not a joke but look at us and how we have been ran recently and how many points we have at home? I mean their is poor kids sitting watching this all season and they haven't seen their team win at home ? Some st.mirren fans in fact most will not have been at a game that we have won since may 3rd 2014. I am embarrassed and I am very angry . Everything from the players, board, management to the disgraceful home kit absolutely f**king stink this year. Anyone who says we ain't is lying to themselves

I wouldn't go as far as to agree with the thread title, though for what it's worth I do feel more disenfranchised with the club than ever before.
I was firmly in the camp who confessed to being mystified by the appointment of Tommy Craig, and as stated at the time my main concern was the Chairman telling us that he had the right man for the job. This despite not advertising or interviewing for the position. SG maintained this support, at least publicly, even when TC's position had gone beyond untenable.
We had a good debate on here when TC signed Ball, Marwood and Caldwell where a cursory glance at their goal scoring histories screamed to most of us that they would not be a success simply by pulling on a black and white shirt. Unfortunately we got that spectacularly correct.
We have pretty much all been asking for a decent centre half for what seems like ever. How's that going?
Many of us last summer were vocal in needing to replace 36 year old Thommo rather than simply applying blind faith that he would somehow keep going forever. We backed this up with his goals to games stats which had become awful. Thommo's season is going from bad to worse yet we even had some fans supporting the idea he could be accommodated in defense once he hangs up his striking boots. The window saw us bring in Arquin, a guy who scored 2 goals for Ross County in 19 outings. He didn't even score against us when we played them FFS.
Our best player was sold for sweeties. We can debate why all we like, the fact that it happened is an absolute disgrace. £300K, that's farcical.
I was very much for a new manager being brought in when TC was bagged as I considered that we needed someone impartial and experienced to guide us through the tail end of the season. After weeks of silence from the BOD we got Gary Teale installed until May. I don't blame Gary one bit for taking the job, but this is a guy who started coaching last summer, and who had zero management experience. It's hard to accept that as a responsible decision by a BOD.
It's often the little things that tip the balance though. On Saturday at half time everyone I spoke to was of the opinion that the two up front were not working and that Thommo needed the hook - I totally agreed. Instead Arquin busied himself filling the bath and out runs Thommo. Did anyone think that was the right decision by the manager?
Now more than ever we need some steel and grit from Teale, friendships and allegiances need to be set aside. I'd say the same applies to sections of our support who can't let go of the past. Time to call a spade a spade, from all concerned.
    Apologies, rant over.

Totally agree. Sack a manager give his assistant the job but don't bring in a new full time assistant must be a 50k saving there? , buy young players cast off from other diddy teams, sack diddly manager then give his coach the job? Again a money saving bargain. Promote youth coach to assistant manager and have him do two jobs? Let your one and only player go during the January window for 270k to a team in your league knowing full well we desperately needed him to have half a chance. The hole club is geared up for relegation and to be fair we totally deserve it. The club stinks at present and although I don't ask for top six or great flair I do expect st.mirren fc to compete with Hamilton, Inverness, st.johnstone, killie, Dundee as well as county's and well and maybe even united. It isn't funny anymore we can't win at home and it's really embarrassing now. Sadly people will not admit it because they're saints fans and don't want to but our team has become a shambles and one that will be playing in front of 1500 next year against Alloa and Cowdenbeath
