Really saddened by this. I've never been a supporter of the Lib Dems, but I always admired him. He seemed a genuinely nice guy, a bit too nice for frontline politics actually.
I thought he campaigned very well for No during the referendum last year. I actually thought he was one of very few major politicians on the no side to have a good campaign.
Was hoping he'd stand for Holyrood in May. His presence, experience and voice in the Scottish Parliament would have been most welcome. Sadly it was not to be, RIP.

I recently visited my grandfather-in-law in Erskine hospital.
Whilst there I noticed on the wall they have a wish tree where they have a picture up of themselves and a wish written beside it, "trip to Largs" etc. and once they have had their wish it is taken off the tree.
One elderly man has "A trip to St Mirren Park" written on it. It has been up there the past few times I have visited.
I'm not sure if he wants to see a game or just visit the ground for a tour but does anyone currently take a group of elderly/special needs fans that could facilitate this?

This idea has already been given the thumbs down. It is beyond ridiculous and will make our football even more of a joke all in the pursuit of pandering to a club no longer in existence.

Well done to the board as well (not been daid often recently) for getting this all done early and not making the same mistakes they did last year

Think the wage bill might be top heavy, with players like Kello, Goodwin, Teale, Thommo, Tess, McLean, and of course, McAusland , on sizeable salaries, whilst others were on peanuts.

Almost 500 Saints fans took the time to vote in our online Eurovision style poll recently to determine the 13th winner of the annual Black & White Army Player of the Year Award, for season 2014-2015.

As the largest Saints unofficial website, our award is always coveted by the players. This season of course has been an incredibly disappointing one for everyone connected with the club, but one that we WILL recover from. The club will bounce back again, just like it has done many times before.

Anyway, to the vote itself and we are really pleased to announce that the winner of this years Player of the Year award for 2015 is none other than....................
    Aaron Woodall
Aaron (circled in the photo) is one of our 2008 Junior Academy players who was diagnosed with a brain tumour late last year. Having successfully had his tumour removed this brave young man then underwent many weeks and months of really intensive Radiotherapy and is currently undergoing Chemotherapy as he continues to battle this disease.

Aarron's strength & courage has been an inspiration to all of us, and a timely reminder of things around us that are much more important than football.

We will be in touch with the club shortly to arrange to hand over our coveted trophy to this fine young man, who will also receive a framed St.Mirren shirt, signed by the League Cup winning team of 2013 as part of his award.

Congratulations Aaron and all the very best with your continued recovery.

Top Ten Players (in reverse order - total points received)

    Aaron Woodall - 4291
    Kenny McLean - 4102
    Jim Goodwin - 3089
    Stephen Mallan - 2857
    Jeroen Tesselaar - 2582
    John McGinn - 2429
    Marc Ridgers - 2380
    Jason Naismith - 2309
    Marc McAusland - 1782
    James Dayton - 1408

Nope . Sorry. The fans deal with reality on a daily basis . Our Club , & most others (but not all) seem oblivious to what is actually happening out there .
Reality is, we have had our worst season for years , we have had the worst management for years , we have had the worst league position for years , we have a season to look forward to in a lower division (for how many years , god knows) .....& yet the club behaves as if all is normal. Ships ? I see no ships !!

I think the BoD have ran a sound campaign of late to deflect some of the criticism, and in many ways have succeeded in getting the many positives of their tenure across. I've no problem with that, in fact, I would have been dissapointed if they hadn't come out fighting.
Accepting the appointment of Tommy Craig as a mistake is the grand gesture, and it has clearly appeased some. However the mistakes have been many. Mistake number 2 was waiting until December to sack Craig. Mistake number 3 was handing the keys to GT, an existing player, coaching experience amounting to 8 months, zero management experience, and hobbled by his ingrained allegiances and lack of impartiality within the dressing room. Mistake 4 was a disastrous January window. Pulling no punches, Arquin and Gow - I mean, come on! And it's not hindsight, most of us said it at the time. Mistake 5 was the sale of McLean (really, could nothing have been done to retain him until May?).
We are all hurting, BoD included. The great shame is that we are being relegated in our 9th season consecutive season in the Premiership when arguably it should have been relatively straightforward to finish at least 10th. It's worth remembering there is no Hearts, no Hibs, no newRanger. Dundee and Hamilton were new to the top tier this season, yet strolled past us. Ross County and Motherwell were the worst they have been in years. Killie and Partick are hardly world beaters.
I think we all understand the argument about living within our means. However there has to be a degree of speculating to accumulate. Neither Motherwell or Ross County broke the bank in January, far from it. Instead they signed wisely and have transformed their seasons as a result. It is likely that both will be rewarded with Premiership survival. Consider this, we missed out on the likes of Scott McDonald who doubtless wanted £X. We instead gave £Y to Gow, a footballer who had not had a club for 12 months. We don't know what the difference between X and Y is in terms of salary from January to May, but I'd be surprised if it was vast over a few short months.
It feels like a well rehearsed mantra.... we are all thankful for what the BoD have done, have achieved. But the rot does not begin and end with the farcical appointment of Tommy Craig. It is far more complex as we, as fans, know intimately. My own opinion is that Tom English got it right, over the last 12 months (at least) the men in charge are guilty of being asleep at the wheel. Did I mention I'm thankful for they achieved prior though? Just checking.

Why so many people want Ian Murray as manager is beyond belief, for one he's contracted for two years at Dumbarton and our BOD will not pay compo. Secondly he is not what we need. We require an experienced manager with maybe a younger man assisting.

Whilst we are all getting our tuppence worth there are a few simple things out with of a new manager and a completely new team.
I want our old strip back. I hate that one, and now it represents failure.
I want the Paisley Panda back not a black and White Bungle from Rainbow.
I want Cheerleaders back and a bit of the fun we had under Hendrie, even his free kicks pre match sailing over the bar.
I want some decent music, days of some wee git with a hoodie and a tizer going "Quality maaaaan!!! is also dead
I want better weather- I enjoyed ICE storms at the old ground more than drizzle at new one
I want our clothes pegs the same height as the oppositions- that idea obviously tanked
I want Arquin arrested for crimes against football ,
I want a statue of Sir Alex to remind teams just who we are schooled by.
I want to play Glasgow Uni and win 15-0 allegedly
I want Chick Young Shot and Tommy Craig to be charged with his murder
If all my demands are met I will happily pay my ST

Not sure about any of them to be honest. Mallan did show promise and maybe playing in the middle of the worst Saints midfield in a long time has hindered his progress but McLear showed very little when given his chance.
As far as Thommo goes, something stinks in my opinion. Passed over in favour of Goodwin and Teale at the start of the season, not starting in make or break games when claiming to be fit and displaying none of the characteristics of leadership whenever the armband did come his way. I don't think there's any doubt that a fit Thommo would be an asset in the Championship but his attitude needs to be right or he can go with the rest of them.

I'm sure there was a report last week which said 29 out of the top 30 clubs in Scotland were financially stable.
Don't see how relegation will be a 'catastrophe' for us as he puts it. We have no debt and we own our own training facility and stadium.
We have 6 or 7 players contracted for next season, all of them are under 25 and will be on relatively modest contracts.
We will simply cut our cloth accordingly and reduce expenditure as income reduces. As we have done before and will do again.

I'm generally a very positive person, and try very hard to be positive about the football club at all times, but being realistic now the automatic relegation spot looks increasingly likely to be our fate. So let's look ahead to what life in the Championship will be like and look for some positives there.
Firstly we can hope that Morton manage to get promoted. 4 proper derby games a season would at least give us something to look forward to.
Two of Hibs, Rangers and probably Motherwell are going to be down there with us too. That's going to be another 8 big matches to look forward to against the same level of opponents that we currently play in the top flight.
The Championship has less f**king about with kick off times than the top flight does. More of our games will be at 3pm on a Saturday.
We won't have to endure those god awful strips again next season.
We might actually start enjoying games again, and score some goals !
We will have a better chance of seeing the club being sold on to local St.Mirren people given that the asking price is sure to drop post relegation
Our gates will almost certainly increase in the Championship given larger away supports, less TV coverage and the team being in with a realistic chance of being involved in the chase for the title or at the very least the end of season playoffs.
There are a lot of negatives too of course, but there are still some silver linings to relegation, it's not the cliff face it once was.
