Just thought I'd drop in and say that I agree with most of the criticism aimed at me about my drink driving offence. It wasn't clever but it was probably a godsend as I was getting progressively worse and something more serious may have happened along the way. The fact that I own a pub doesn't help. As for chatting some bird up in the Internet cafe in Charing Cross. Probably. My pub with wee Joe Millers missus was in Devon. Now separated . But heh! I got the pub. Winner.
Anyway I dont pop into Paisley very much. Obviously I still follow the Buddies but from a fans perspective, how is the team? Outwith winning the cup of course. I played with your gaffer at Partick thistle. Good lad, great professional. Good to see Vince Prince aka Paul lambert doing well at Villa, almost. Of all the guys in the dressing room when I was there, Vincey was the last guy I thought would be a manager. He obviously never listened to Hay or Bone. Wise lad. Anybody have any info on Norrie Mcwhirter or Jim Denny? If so let me know. Okay enough shite from me, cheers.

On the subject of our two new 'dud' goalies - I distinctly remember Gareth Bale being pish at the start of his Spurs career - when he played, Spurs lost. I remember Patrice Evra having a howler in his Man Utd debut. Pretty sure Henrik Larsson was a bit whiffy at the start of his Celtic career. Didn't he score an own goal on his debut or something?
They should all have been binned. Shot. Slapped with a wet fish.

Is everyone going nuts because they honestly believe preseason is a massive indicator to how well we'll do this season? Are some going overboard because they're just waiting for Lennon to f**k up so that they can call for his head?
I can't believe there are so many who do not understand that the prime objective of preseason, and preseason friendlies, is to regain match fitness after a summer away. Some seem to completely underestimate how fit these guys are during the season, and that even keeping their fitness topped up during the summer will still leave them way short of the required fitness and sharpness required to play at the top level, even if it is only in Scotland.
Results are bonuses, and confidence can be taken if we batter someone to an extent. Performances are also a bonus, especially when formations change, and personnel changes, so much during games. I would say that by the Newcastle match, we should be looking to take things pretty seriously, and should see us close to how we'll be in the first game of the season.
Save your tears and gnashing of teeth until we play some games that actually mean something. I'm pretty sure there will be an occasion or two during the season that fits your needs in terms of giving an excuse to vent your spleen, to let off steam, to shout and bawl. Now isn't the time. Worry a little, question the squad, hope for signings, but don't panic like a girl.

FFS. No competitive games played AT ALL, probably still learning their team-mates names, playing behind a just-back-from injury McGregor and a kid thrown in at left back, then a 3-5-2 trial with a brand-new player introduced for the first time... and our two keepers are duds? This is a disgrace, even by St Mirren knickerwetting standards. Takes knickerwetting to a whole new gusset-drenched level.
FFS Danny - phone Iker Casillas or Gianluigi Buffon today, before a St Mirren fan actually drowns in their own pants.

He may have started the summer looking for a substantial salary, but with it now edging towards August, his ability to make demands diminishes, and it becomes more likely he'll accept a lower salary. We are likely to be able to offer him a salary towards the top of our salary scale given the amount of players we released. This might be another reason why we have not jumped in and signed players early on, but waited for the right players - which Grainger may or not be one of.

    Carey. Miranda. Lappin.
Talented, not good enough defensively, but decent going forward. Where to play them? Somewhere on the left side, floating around the touchline. There's the problem. They're not really one thing or the other, and not talented enough to be allowed to play wherever the hell they want - like a certain Mr G. Bale for example.

I was speaking to an individual who had the opportunity to observe Carey in training both in his first spell with us under the previous management and in his second spell under our current management.
He said when Carey came back for his second spell his attitude had changed completely and unlike the eager committed individual he had observed in his first spell, he was disinterested and lacked the necessary drive in training and
that he had several run ins with the management team regarding his training effort and overall attitude.
The individual I spoke to said that if we had got the first version of Carey when we signed him permanently, then he would have been a great asset. However, sadly we did not, in his opinion.
So it would appear here's only one person to blame for Carey leaving and it's not the manager.
I liked Carey as a player, but to me he was always lacking that edge that set him above run of the mill players.
Now, I have no idea whether the above is wholly true or not, but the individual I spoke to has no axe to grind with Carey.

I agreed with the decision to release Carey back in May but I never doubted his talent just the ability of DL or any manager to get the best out of him - for me his best position is wing-back in a 3-5-2. However as we seem to have missed out on our first choice signings (and if the current rumours about Aswad are ill-founded) I'd be happy to see us offer him a 1 year deal providing he was to sign up sharpish. Let's face it he's not such a hot ticket as he was two summers ago...............

If we're not spending money, I take that to mean either we haven't managed to agree deals for any more players yet, or that money is tighter than many of us think. I trust the board completely to do what's right for the club, as they have done for the past 15 years or so.
We'll get a team we can afford when all is said and done, and we won't put ourselves into trouble like Rangers, Dunfermline, Hearts, Dundee and countless other clubs. I prefer this way of working.

We've lost first choices Samson, Goncalves, Newton & Dummett plus squad players Carey, Guy, Parkin & Imrie.
Samson has been replaced so that is that box ticked.
Harkins could be said to be the replacement for Carey & Imrie. Brady may also get a chance.
McGregor is maybe the replacement for Newton with possibly Robertson getting a chance.
Dummett's possible replacements are Kelly & Yaqub (maybe Barron as well).
However, there is nobody on the staff who comes near to Goncalves and Parkin was ideal cover for Thompson.
If Lennon can pull something out the bag to replace Goncalves then the squad will be fine. I suspect he will be working on a loan deal there.
But, as I keep saying, the downfall will still be the tactics. If we keep fannying about at the back - and we will - will are going to struggle.

In the past 10 years, I think Gus (and Danny to a lesser extent) have been far too tentative in giving our academy players a chance in the first team.
Yes we've had some that have been given a proper chance (McGinn for example) and taken it. There have been many more others though who spend years at the club and are then released with a few unused sub appearances to their name. Would any of them made it? Possibly not many, but I'd rather have given them a chance than the many journeymen who we've had come and go.
Compared to other clubs in the league we don't give as many of our youths a chance, and it's surprising considering the reputation we have amongst parents and the facilities at our disposal. If the club has the confidence to replace benchwarmers like Guy, Parkin and Imrie with guys who have come through the ranks then I think it's a step forward.
