I don't understand why anyone would take offence at the Union Flag. It's International Football Week and I'm using the avatar to show my support for all of the home nations in competition. It's also the week that Nicola Sturgeon told all her little cultists to go out and have a conversation about the future of Scotland. So far it appears that those little cults want to open the listening excersize by banning alternative views. Sad really.

You know you've changed your avatar in a sad attempt to play "fishy, fishy".

You do talk p!sh sometimes... erm,... I take that back.

Sometimes? What am I thinking?!

If that was indeed the ploy, isn't it sad that people bit so easily and with such bile.

However on an International Football Week when all British teams were playing, and in a week when the SNP relaunched their bid to split the most important political union Scotland has ever had, I think my avatar was more than appropriate.

Football's done. SNP bad is getting a bit boring.

Tell me again why you still have the avatar.

I haven't found anything suitable to change it with. When I come up with something I'll change it - as I've always done. I won't be rushing to do it though. It is the flag of my country. I'm proud of being British and it says far more about the people who are uncomfortable with our flag being used as an avatar than it does about me.

Did you get that off one of your nationalist websites? When you travel the world as I have done you notice that the Union Flag often pops up in the most unexpected of places. Many countries are still extremely proud of their association with the UK. A UK, which by the way, Scotland is very much a part of. Indeed when it comes to British Empire Scotland profited hugely and Paisley in particular built it's entire wealth around it's trading with the British Empire. Are you as equally embarrassed of your association with the town that made so much money from the Empire?

I've spent the last thirty five years working throughout the world, (and that's not just in my head), and found that I was treated far better once it was known I was SCOTTISH. Not British. In fact most people associated the union flag with English thugs

But Scotland IS a part of the United Kingdom. The majority of Scots voted to keep it that way and it will stay that way for a long, long time to come. You need to get over your issues with a piece of cloth. The UK is the 5th richest economy in the world. It's rich in history both good and bad. We built an empire together, developed huge parts of the world together, we made loads of money together, and we grew into one of the great liberators of the world defeating Hitler and National Socialism. I'm proud of being British, and I am extremely proud of being Scottish. It's a fantastic way to be. And on a week when Scotland, Wales and England all won, and Northern Ireland got an impressive draw shouldn't we all be celebrating?

It's not me waving the "piece of cloth" in people's faces. It's rich in more bad than good. It symbolises a horrible history of enslavement, murder and occupation while lining the pockets of the chosen few on the back of it. Not that much different from the evil tyrant you say was beaten back by those who marched under the banner. You can call it "development" if it clears your conscience while brandishing it proudly. The majority of Scots. Did NOT vote to keep the status quo. There was a majority of those who voted but it's recognised that many who voted No voted for the change promised, (and undelivered), by the political leaders of the remain campaign.

Just like you tend to do, they spouted lies and nonsense to suit their agenda. And I wouldn't bet too heavily on the Scottish people continuing to be conned by a Tory party likely to lurch farther and farther to the right while the unionist opposition is falling apart. There is fast becoming only one option for fair minded folk. Don't worry. I don't include you in that bracket. You're too far gone to see the wood for the Tory trees.

I pity you. If your own flag makes you froth at the mouth and seethe with anger you really must have a tormented life.

There was a 6 figure bid from Darren Ferguson at Doncaster Rovers and a couple of English Premiership teams are said to be keen on him, but there was nothing from Rotherham. Jst a few months ago Quitongo was offered to a number of clubs in Scotland after Aberdeen released him, including St Mirren. Only Morton took the punt.

I can promise you that St. Mirren weren't offered Jai Quitongo a few months ago. He's been with Morton for well over a year and was on their bench for at least two of the Renfrewshire derbies last season.

Indeed.

Signed mid August 2015. Then an 18 month extension in December 2015.

Obviously by a few months he meant more than a year ago, even though it's another barefaced lie.

He's not very good with numbers.

Stuart. I am pretty sure that  you are an intelligent man. I can see that you hold strong views but you do have a penchant for expressing these as facts.

I too have spent a lot of time travelling and working internationally, particularly over the last 17 years with enough miles travelled to take me around the globe many times.

Attitudes to the United Kingdom vary greatly especially in ex colonies. What is less in question is that  people often  differentiate Scots from the English within that context.

Justified or not, we seem to emerge with more credit - then again they would be likely to tell me that - I am not naive.

Scotland, Ireland and to some extent Wales sent disproportionate numbers to the colonies and, it appears, they prospered.

That prosperity was also shared back in the, then industrial heartlands of these "home" countries.

Did we exploit - I think the verdict on that is clear. We acted as any empire has and probably as they will again.

But - this is, I believe a football forum, so no more politics from me.

Fly your flag by all means, let others fly theirs, go to your own church or not but some saturday those on the forum become St Mirren fans united behind our team.

Saltire.jpgBut it doesn't

Oh, seethe seethe, take that down please.....see how ridiculous that sounds. I like the St Andrews flag - it features predominantly in the Union Flag, I like the Lion Rampant too. Along with the Union Flag they are all my flags. As I've said many times I am proud to be Scottish and proud to be British and I delighted to be part of a successful political Union that has delivered wealth, prosperity, protection and stability to all Scots for well over 300 years.

I let others fly their flag as you'll see. I only dislike Scottish Nationalism because I see it as unpatriotic. For a movement to wish unemployment, pain and suffering on their own so they can blame the English for it seems very distasteful me.

On the subject of being abroad, there are proportionally ten times more English people than Scottish living on these Isles. Youll know as well as I do that when we are a road it's often assumed we are English until we correct people. Put that into a loutish bar brawl and Scots get to hide behind the Union Flag and the English often get the rap for it after all the locals aren't going to be chatting to them to find differently.

Regardless I wasn't referring to the reputation of Scots abroad, I was talking about the surprising number of places whose flag still features the Union Flag because of their pride of their friendship, relationship and history with the UK. Even in the US one of their states holds on to the Union Flag as part of its national flag.

He has a similar problem with yards & miles .

Are you now claiming the Stadium of Light is 700 miles from the centre of Sunderland? Only one of us had the problem you describe and it wasn't me. Residents of Sunderland believe the Stadium Of Light to be in the town centre, I believe it to be hundreds of yards away as it is, for me anyway, just across the River Wear. You were the one who claimed it was nowhere near the town centre cause "it was built on an old colliary and you don't get them in towns".

You are ridiculous Calum and I say that posting as I check out from the Hilton Garden Inn in Sunderland where the receptionist thinks anyone claiming the town is miles away must be "thick as shite".
