We don't need a stand in striker... we need one who will improve us and be part of the future - not the short term..

As it stands we don't really need another striker if everyone stays fit and avoids suspension. The advantage of getting in someone better now , as well as adding something better,  is that they will be part of the Championship winning squad which transitions to the Premiership. So they will be in, up to speed and part of the foundations for next season..

Sorry but Dobbie (aged 35) is not one for the future and we don't have the same short term needs as Celtic.. we need to be building for the next level up or saving our money for then

eh..........that may not have been his point I'm guessing!!

Woosh

Think he means Hibs (wasn’t Celtic) should go for him, hence weakening Queens for Saturday

It was Hibs however, looking at that overrated Dembele and that hopeless Sinclair, Brendan should be looking at Smith and Reilly also. Make us offer BR, £5M should cover it

Aye, £5M each! (And then loaned back for the rest of the season)

That's really gripes with United Fans...... they get shot of Cifti, GMS and Armstrong in Jan window to rivals and lose them, we get LM back.....................

Tough at the Top--------------- Actually its easy at the top

Clearly, if we repeat our level of results in the remaining 13 games then by definition, we would top the championship table at the end of the season. The issue is that 'if" is a two letter word with a much bigger meaning in the context of a very competitive league.

Arithmeticaly, should we continue to accumulated points at the same rate in the remainder of the season as we have in the season to date then we would be at or close to a total of 79 points by the end. If we were to win every game then we would finish on 90 points.

DUFC are currently on 40 points with 14 games to play . If they continued at their present rate then they could end up at about 66 points. If they win every remaining game then they could reach 82.

Still.....that word "if" comes in to play.

We are in a great position but there are too many games to come to allow us to start celebrating.  Nothing wrong with enjoying the ride though!

I agree, however I think we can seriously start to plan for next season. Bookies have us up to 1/7 on, United are 4/1 against.   3 weeks ago United were favs............ Livi are 33/1

Yes "if" still plays a part, however if this was a horse race we would be pulling away from a 3 legged United horse, its not just us winning every week, its United getting gubbed. And by all accounts that was 3-0 going on 10-0 v Morton............... United are totally out of sorts, the spine of their team is injured or hopelessly low on confidence. Its clear ST has more interest in Oz than he does Dundee................. Cant see anyone at Saints being complacent here, so I wont start HOWEVER ................

And United are on 40 points mate, not 41.  They might not even get to that total by May:whistle

We are the form team, the team with it in our own hands, but...it is important we strengthen once again before the window closes. Strengthen while we're strong. We need as many options as possible going forward, for when teams set out to frustrate us and we need a different way of winning.

Although we have a strong squad as it is, there is a reason the manager is looking for more attacking options, and that's to help us keep the momentum going in the right direction.

Win on Saturday though, and we're one step closer...

Careful Ronnie.
Hope you are right.
We would have to lose 4 or 5 from 13 & only lost 4 from 22.

Even if we did lose them some other team would have to win the majority of games and with every team with something to play for really can't see that happening they will all cut each others throats so to speak.

I think, maybe expect, Dundee Utd are going to have a real struggle to finish in the top 4. Their most recent league results:

29/12 - Lost 2-0 away to us

02/01 - Won 4-1 home to Brechin

06/01 - Lost 6-1 away to Falkirk

13/01 - Drew 0-0 away to Dunfermline

27/01 - Lost 3-0 home to Morton

Keep up that level of consistency and they'll be lucky to finish in the top half; they've already played Brechin 3 times while everyone down to and including Falkirk will think they can make the top 4.

Their next fixtures are away to Inverness, Aberdeen (cup) and Livingston (tv game) followed by QoS at home then the champions elect :P at home. It's not inconceivable they could lose all of them or certainly not win any of them.

Might need to turn our attention to Livingston soon as the closest pursuer. As an aside their attendance at home to Dumbarton on Saturday was 732.

Had an errand to run yesterday on route to daughters swimming lesson & put Radio Scotland on, they m just happened to say let's turn our attention to the championship as Neil Alexander is our guest & after going through weekend results asked Alexander his opinion and he said "St Mirren will win the league so we just need to get 2nd place & he hoped we would keep winning like Friday so we keep taking points off their play off rivals".

They then discussed Dundee United & whoever was in studio with Neil Alexander said United were struggling big time and thought they better watch out as they might eventually drop out play off places altogether Alexander agreed that them and DAFC were both looking to catch United so could see them (United) fighting it out with QotS, Morton & Inverness for 4th.

Taking the games in hand into consideration, we are, at worst, 8 points clear. I don't think that we will drop 8 points before the end of the season, or at least until we win the title as we might take our foot off the gas then.
Exactly this.

Been having discussion's with fellow saints fans on Social Media can see us losing 3 or 4 games but only after we win the league.

Just don't see how we can lose this now Friday and Saturday results at East End Park and Tannadice basically just won us the league.

Don't understand all the worrying our nearest challengers are self destructing(1 win in 5 v Brechin) yet some fans seem worried that they will suddenly win 10 out of 14 games while we then suddenly lose more than we have all season.

I for one have confidence in the manager and players but as more knowledgeable people than me have said "football is a funny old game."

Let's enjoy the ride, encourage as many people as possible to come along to games and leave any celebrating until the arithmetic states that the league has been won.

But hey....let's make some noise along the way.

Ps. There were nearly 5,500 people at East End Park on Friday (almost 800 St Mitre Fans). Against United DAFC brought in over 7,000. Will we make 5,000 on Saturday?

Apparently according to Saints fans on here DAFC include all season tickets bought in crowd figures certainly didn't look like 5,500 there on Friday.

Probably around the 4500 mark on Saturday.

Pressure is a huge factor. United feeling it big time at the moment. Only takes a couple of results going the wrong way for the pressure to turn to us, which is why we need to keep winning and not let the intensity drop.
