northstbuddie reacted to Derek in Kenny Mclean
Thought his goal tonight was excellent, but a little concerned about GT's interview on BT Sports. He said he couldn't understand why we still had Kenny, although he wasn't complaining. I think we need to try and hold onto him until the summer and allow the younger lads a little more time. If we play like we did tonight and can keep Kenny until the summer I think we'll stay up and then Kenny can get the move he deserves.

Kenny Mclean has almost singlehandedly dragged St Mirren out of the mire in the last month. We now have a fighting chance of staying up which looked inconceivable under TC when Mclean and everyone was having a mare.
Kenny is turning in performances that will finally bring the so called bigger clubs calling. He has always done well then picked up an injury which has kept him out for weeks at a time and then struggled to come back and find the same form straight away. If Kenny keeps these performances up then he surely could move in the summer for a tidy sum. That's what I hope anyway. :-)
I wonder how good a player would be if he was playing in the current United or Aberdeen team alongside better players. I am sure his transfer fee would be a minimum of £1 million.

Last Saturday and tonight - 2 great performances - well done to all the players and GT & DL.
Great to see the combination of skill, organisation and effort.
It's important that we try and build on these hard won 4 points against Dundee.
There is still a long way to go until the end of the season - at least there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

First part of the game Goodwin was awful. He quickly improved after he got out of jail with the short pass back. No damage done and after this he was brilliant, solid game and controlled display. First half we were excellent, should have gone in ahead.
2nd half was really poor from both sides for the most of it. Dundee United were in top for most of it without really creating. We then had a good finish and could have won it in the end.
Penalty shout at the end was the right decision, hit his arm but they were tucked into his body as he turned his back.
McGinn, McLean and Mallan all performed well tonight and big Arquin was a handful. Tired towards the end but won most headers and looks a good signing.
Feeling more positive about our survival prospects, 3 points on Saturday now please.

Nothing a few shovels of grit won't shift today surely. That said we as a country are off our head asking fans to travel to games midweek at this time of year. And the powers that be wonder why we can't get more people through the turnstiles ????

None, which was my point. To take six weeks off when you've just sacked your manager, have the club purchase ongoing, have one group coming up to sign papers and the transfer window is in full flow. It's questionable to say the least.

The 7 figure player would be Argentinian, Santiago Garcia, who played for Rosario in Argentina and then moved onto Italy with firstly Novaro Calcio, then Palermo. He played 41 times for Palermo and was then transferred to Talca Rangers in Chile on 31st August 2013. The next day on the 1st September 2013 he was loaned to Werder Bremen, playing 22 times that season. The loan ended on 30th June 2014 and the next day he was signed by Werder, and has played 16 times this season. The total fee payed by Werder (loan and transfer) is listed as £1.8 million of which a third went to Palermo. Of the rest we can only surmise how much went to Talca. KPMG state that third party owners in South America can own up to 50% of a players rights. FIFA say 25% of transfers go to the player or agent. That would leave £300000 for Talca who were 100% owned by Piducano SADP, in turn owned by the brothers Pini. Rosario might have had a cut of future transfers. Talca might have got £150000 or maybe less. Santiago Garcia never played for Talca; nor even visted the club or Chile while registered with them. The Pini brothers sold Talca in September 2014. There were no taxes on football transfers in Chile, but I guess a transfer from Italy to Germany would incur taxes.Taxes would be payable by football transfer sellers and buyers in the UK. This was all decided to be legal after numerous court cases, but in January 2013 the Argentinian FA and tax authorities announced they would bring in rules to ban third party ownership, invoke new taxes related to football transfers and insist on new registers of player ownership. They have blacklisted clubs considered to have abused the transfer/tax system. The whole thing has a whiff of EBTs about it. Legal but pursued relentlessly by the taxman and then banned. I can't see how any of the above would be allowed under existing SFA and HMRC rules.Third party player ownership is banned by the SFA. Dual ownership/interest of clubs is banned by the SFA (Rankine and Ashley), so any Girona purchase would surely mean deal off. The new owner of Talca has admitted that the Pini brothers still have interests in many squad players. Talca Rangers were in administration when the Pini brothers bought them in an auction. Girona FC are currently in administration. I don't think, thankfully, St.Mirren are anywhere near administration. If the Pini brothers, the Floridian hotelier and the other bloke gain control of St.Mirren through T4C Sports Ltd I hope they have a new business model.

Just a wee reminder - my dictionary definition of IMMINENT is "about to happen"
I think it is time that posters on here started using some other adjective to describe the so-called deal such as:-
    eventual
    possible
    unlikely
    fictional
    hopeful
    dead in the water

I assume you are talking about Cheesy.
According to most people who were actually at the match, Cheesy had an excellent game.
One of the highlights at Dingwall for me and a lot of Saints fans was the look of sheer ecstasy on Cheesy's face at the end of the match. He is a buddie through and through and while he has made a few individual errors this season (as have a number of other players) this has been a year when collectively we have not enjoyed the rub of the green.

Yes, at a pivotal time for the club even a non committal sound bite would be at least a courtesy, irrespective of whatever confidential commercial discussions are underway. Or is it that its only SG that is capable of speaking in public, and if he is out the country, then we hear nowt ? It does seem a tad bizarre or some might say as above a tad disrespectful, irrespective of £nos. fans are not interested in the change the BOd might get , they want a reference to some possible direction. We have circa fifty plus cv's lying on a desk , gawd even the press have given up speculating on the manager.
St Mirren it seems are just not even news worthy these days

Hmm, you've tapped my inner psyche here..........
I've felt less engaged , less of a fan since we relocated tbh. A bit of my attachment for the club still lies in memories and ruins, cannae help that.
Strangely I think of Yogi Hughes whenever I think of Greenhill road now, he said opposition teams would get more of a lift from the new ground than St Mirren ? Never had him as a prophet but that foresight rings kinda true with me, both as a fan wanting success and as a customer. The Greenhill rd experience is awful.
As for the future , it's a generational thing , the club will go on , but it's firm identity going forward, well I just don't see it as good from my perspective , but maybe my kids will engage again in time. Personally I get more out of chasing a wee ball across manicured acreage these days than paying to be an avid fan of murder ball in the godawful SPFL.
St Mirren will always be my team , their failures and successes continually shape my mindset, but looking forward, I'm kinda Revd I M Jolly about it all.

I don't want new people to chuck cash in or promise 'cash investment' and talk about Europe, challenging at the top, taking us to the next level, living the dream, or any of that shite. We've smelled that bullshit at other clubs.
I want people to be running the club who aren't simply there for a buck, or to act as an intermediary for some kid's journey from Bogota to Berlin via a three month stint in a St Mirren strip.
I would like people with ideas and drive, who are able to engage with the support. My personal belief is that St Mirren, as a club, an entity, wouldn't know a good idea if it jumped up and smacked them in the gob. We smack of a corner shop who is resigned to life as a corner shop.
If other folk disagree, I respect their opinion.

Who is the new SG, who is in the Paisley area on the ground, in the boardroom each meeting, in the directors box each Saturday, and who attends SPFL meetings representing St Mirren is one question (of many) I have asked in previous posts.
Seeing as how we fans know nothing, all we have are our own guesses, so here's one. Say the Argentinian bid is for real and goes through. Say they sell SG and Co on the idea that St Mirren being a transfer holding area to process players through benefits both the club and the new owners - are there any examples of this arrangement working to the benefit of any other Scottish clubs? Has this been done before at a senior Scottish club? Are there any examples of a foreign consortium coming in, staying the course, and it not ending like Hearts, Livvy, Dundee or Gretna?
If the answer is no, and there are no successful examples, then just what was so scary about the 10000hours plan not having been done before?

I thought the point of having a panel of pundits was you got a range of opinions and sometimes a panelist might balance out another panelist's view by arguing how the opposite position might be taken.
After 10 league games where we lose 9 and win 1 I was actually looking forward to watching a Sportscene where we actually win with a great performance from 10 men for the majority of the game. Almost nothing was said afterwards about how well St Mirren started and how only 1 team had created any decent chances prior to the sending off. Instead, Jonathan Sutherland kicks things off with a pun making a dig at an 18 year old St Mirren player, "you've got to hand it to Stevie Mallan" and I think he repeated it again in case we didn't notice the emphasis on hand linking in to a discussion on how the referee had cheated Ross County out of 3 points (with the scores balanced at, er, 1-1 at the time) and could cost McIntyre and Dodds their jobs. Next talking point was on to the red card and why Bonner, Stewart and Sutherland all thought it was a straight red card and dangerous tackle. No mention of St Mirren playing well, or of how bad the camera angles were for the red card or judging which body part Mallon knocked the ball in with. Little was even said about Ridgers save or how little County offered going forward or our defence looking reasonably OK, indeed, Michael Stewart still found time to say "Every time I see St Mirren their defence is all over the place at 6's and 7's". Would it have hurt the panel too much to have said a few nice things about St Mirren on a rare week for he 2nd time in 11 games where we actually bloomin' win a game.

In addition to Gary Teale, I think a lot of credit should go to Jim Goodwin for the way he has responded since his fall from grace.
He has been instrumental in holding the team together and encouraging the younger players on the park in recent matches.
I would like to think that he will regain his coaching role in due course

All is not lost - we have had 2 notable achievements this season:-
We have sorted out our inconsistency problem. We can now be relied upon to get beaten in practically every game. We have also updated the English language - we have redefined the meaning of IMMINENT.

I've had a good few glasses of wine, granted, but have to say that these shots speak volumes about our squad at the moment.
These guys are 100% behind the cause and giving it their all. What a contrast to how it appeared when Craig was the gaffer. The shot of Jim congratulating Mallan is great, but the pics of Cheesy actually make me feel a wee bit emotional. I have my doubts about the guy as a player at times (though he was outstanding today by all accounts) but his unbridled joy in these photos makes it clear what it means to him to be playing for St Mirren. For me, that carries a hell of a lot of stock, and I'm glad he is on board for the run in. We might go down, but these guys will put up a fight, and that is all we can ask of them.
    COYS!
