Too much is being attributed on here to a manager's potential to influence results as can be observed from Claudio Ranieri's dire experience this season at Leicester in contrast to last year's dream scenario. Sometimes things go wrong without apparent reason (from the manager's point of view) and more often than not the players' role in such circumstances is underplayed.
Ranieri has not suddenly become a bad manager - and arguably the best manager in England at present, Arsene Wenger, has had few seasons where he has not experienced a losing streak.
St Mirren were (are) in free-fall and have been for some time and even Sir Alec (sacked by St Mirren) has felt the ire of fans on many occasions and would be hard pushed to achieve the great escape for St Mirren in their present state.
Jack Ross, despite what some state on here, is highly regarded by fellow professionals in the game and should be given time to prove himself.

Too many rose tinted glasses over McGinn. He was never as good as John and was injury prone. If rumours are true then I hope he is by these problems and he is prepared to put in a shift.

Obviously McGinn has been playing at a higher level than we have for the past couple of years and is a talented player,but I'm not over enthused about signing a player whose career has been hampered by injuries and probably won't be match fit.
However, any signing we make at this stage in the season is a bit of a risk.

If the club are producing youngsters and moving them on for decent money then it's all good. It will help us attract more talent and the revenue ploughed back into the team. While it's sad to see top talent leave it's what will ultimately get us back to the top.

We need players in that can have an immediate impact . Loy falls into that category for me .

Time to get a left back signed asap. Move Irvine to right back and get Naismith out the side. We need 100% committed players for the rest of the season.

Punting yet another management team is not the answer we have to give Ross the chance to reinvent the side from whatever starting position we find ourselves. If the starting point is some fresh faces during the window and escaping then good but if it's a complete clear out in a lower league then we take the hit and come back stronger and with players buying into a new ethos instead of accepting the malaise that surrounds the club at the moment.

He won't be the last player targeted in January. We will definitely cash in if the money is right. He is out of contract at the end of the season so we may take money now.
