    Aye, so it did.

In addition to this, the conspiracy theorists overlook the 150 seats that got taken out of the Main Stand to accommodate the disabled platform, so it barely holds 2000 these days.

    Love the figures here.
2400+ in the Main Stand that holds 2200...
I take it 1500 was the away end that was announced as 1200 ish...
And the West Stand had way more than 100 empty seats that you claim.
Why do some people get such a hard-on about attendance figures.

Anyway, great performance and result, no failures in the stripes at all. You could see it was a big jump in opposition from last season but they really did up their level of performance.
Big Ross Stewart was fantastic considering he’s making the move north next week.
Cammy Smith and Danny mullen, they don’t half put some shift in.
    Great start to the season.

You don’t think there’s any chance that the new signings won’t be far off double what Stelios, Nathan Flanagan, Gary Irvine, Josh Todd, Darryl Duffy and Darren Whyte were on in the Championship.
I Wouldn’t have thought it would be that far off.

Everyone will have taken a jump in wages after gaining promotion and the new players signed won’t be far off double the wage of players let go so not that surprising to me.
Paying £75k transfer fee wasn’t a great decision though IMO given that is around the annual salary of an additional player.
Hopefully he will repay his worth and have a belter of a season.

Add in the 75K for Heaton. How many players could we have brought in if that was wage money (plus Heaton's wage too).

Finding the #teameck abit embarrassing on Twitter what about team stelios team Sutton the list could go on about players that have served us well.

All it would achieve is bad blood between supporters and manger.

    Should be #teamstmirren

If their is any truth in the rumours then they are 2 grown men let them sort it between themselves there is no loyalty in football if eck has a better offer on the table than St Mirren he’d jump at it.

Apologise for what calling you Ian. That's your name. Your problem with me is I found out your name that's why you reported me to Div. If that's being abusive to you your easily upset.

With respect bud. Before I knew who he was he used my name on number of occasions but didn't like it done back to him. I don't know your name. So I can't use. But I take you have nothing to hide. I know plenty peoples name on here they don't mind it being used. Or at least they have never said.

Btw, I think it’s now clear to see why Jack was whoring himself round any decent club down south. The squad was no where near good enough and if Hippolyte and Flynn are ‘ones for next season’ added to the signings of Kellerman and McGinn I think major questions need to be asked of his premier league signings.

Looking back Jack probably overachieved with the squad last year, added to the fact no one else in the league hit any level of consistency.

Whoever came in was going to have a massive rebuild ahead of them, especially after losing Morgan and Davis.

Everyone is saying the feel good factor is gone from last year but 2 or 3 decent signings before next Saturday and a win against Dundee and I’m sure that will all disappear

Not saying everything is rosy, QP game was my first game and it was f**king grim.

On recruitment there’s not been many signings the other teams have made that has made me think I wish we got them (Motherwell signing Connor Sammon FFS). At least the manager isn’t blind to it and is highlighting how much he needs to get the right striker in.

Some amount a nonsense being talked on here from the usual suspects. Given the candidates, Stubbs was the best possible appointment for St Mirren.
    Look at his CV:
Captain of Bolton at 22, England B international, Celtic's record signing, numerous trophies, Champions League experience, played 5 seasons in the English Premiership. Worked for and learned from Bruce Rioch, Tommy Burns, Wim Jansen, Martin O'Neill, Walter Smith, David Moyes and Mick McCarthy, to name a few. He started on the road to management because he was handpicked, at the age of 36, by David Moyes to coach their young players.  Don't forget either that Stubbs was diagnosed with cancer twice; the second time he thought it was gone then they found a tumour at the bottom of his spine during a routine scan. Chemotherapy and an operation followed. His kids were 2 and 4 at the time. He came back from that to play nearly 200 games for Everton. This is a strong and determined character. As for getting the sack from Rotherham, Derek McInnes and Steve Clarke suffered similar fates and are doing okay now...
Who really thinks, if they were a member of our board, that a teacher from Northern Ireland, Jim McIntyre or Gary Caldwell would be better options?
What Stubbs has done so far with us..... obviously his first problem is that he's not Jack Ross and there's nothing he can do about that. The "marquee signings" chat was a mistake. No doubt. I think he was on a wee bit of a high being back in football and after a decent performance against Killie. What's happened with G. Mac and Eck, it doesn't look great from the outside but nobody knows what's happened there (though waiting for billyg to make something up again) Regarding Eck, Stubbs signed him for Hibs so he knew what he was getting with that player. Given Eckersley's age and injury history I think it's safe to say Coulson is a better option. As for signings, they will come.
Call me mad, and I know that a whole 13 days have now passed since his first game in charge, but I remain optimistic we'll be a success under Stubbsy.

Give him a break and let’s judge him on league results. Let’s remember his reputation is on the line here, he wants to win and be a success of that I have no doubt.

There’s naturally a lot of focus on how the new signings played. They were all rubbish to a man.

However, what was more worrying for me, was how the established players played.

We had a central 3 of McGinn, Flynn and Smith. Lot of experience in there at a decent level. Not one of them could get a grip on things and take the game by the scruff of the neck last night, 3 very poor performances.

Smith in particular, people have been asking for him to play central. He did last night, number 10 role behind Mullen. He barely touched the ball the whole game and was rightly subbed off.

Those 3 need to find their form pronto or August is going to be a long, hard and pointless month.

The Spartans first goal, at the time I thought the ball was knocked on by one of our players. Maybe that’s why the ref overruled the linesman?
Be intersting to see it again but it’s schoolboy stuff not playing to the whistle.

I am not going to comment on particular players but that display and several individual performances should give Stubbs plenty of food for thought. Guys can have off games but still show some quality but there was little quality on show tonight. And the other great disappointment for me was the formation. We played a 4-1-4-1 (contrary to what others reckoned) which meant in particular that Cooke was isolated up front and Smith was out wide and wasted. One striker at home against a non-league team is pretty poor. I know we were lucky last season playing 3 men behind a striker or Smith playing off a striker with 4 in midfield and saw some great attacking football but that now seems to be ancient history.
And I will comment on McShane though. I thought he was one of the better players which maybe wasn't saying much. Maybe Stubbs should re-think his apparent policy that all the players from last year should be bumped in favour of inexperienced non-league players. I am not suggesting that McShane is the answer however he was better than everyone who was making a Home debut bar Coulson.

From what I’ve seen we still have important positions to fill and hopefully Stubbs has a reasonable budget to get some quality in before the deadline.
We need to add a quality player to every central position on the park and also another right back.
It is early days but tonight shows we don’t have a strong squad at all.
