Think a little over the top negativity on here .

We were playing 2nd best team in Scotland over last 4 years, on a terrible pitch that takes you about 3 extra touches to control the ball which obviously they are used to, add in we really did gift them every goal.

In last 12 months we have lost about 7 matches out of about 40???

An amazing feat which we should be proud of.

Glad to just fully concentrate on league from now on hope United and Dunfermline get through in cup (via replays preferably) so they have more games to come.

    Just found out.
    The conversation went something like:
Jason: " Hey. You're Pedro. Right"?
    Pedro: "Yes. That is correcto".
Jason: "I'm Jason Naismith. I'm a football player too".
Pedro: "Why do I know your name"?
Jason: "I  play for Ross County in Scotland".
    Pedro: "Who"?
Jason: "Ross County. I used to Play for Saint Mirren".
Pedro: "Aah. That's why I know you. The famous Saint Mirren who won that first European trophy.....................
Can we have a selfy taken"?

Sunderland over the last few years is a great example of how not to run a football club. And to think a former poster of this site used to hold them up as some sort of shining example...

I appreciate that this is a debate we've had before, but thought it might be interesting on the eve of a Scottish Cup tie, and in the context of where we are sitting in the league just now.
I was asked by my Dons supporting colleague yesterday what my preference would be if presented with a choice of winning the cup or the league this year. My response, without hesitation, was that I would take the league. My colleague was initially very surprised by this.
My reasoning? Much as cup runs and wins are obviously fantastic for the club and fans, we need to be operating at the very highest level possible. The future of the club depends on optimising income on an ongoing, medium to long-term basis.
I want to see St Mirren in the top league. We currently have a more than decent chance of getting there at the end if this campaign, and I would forego a cup win to secure that right now if I could.
If we were sitting mid-table or in the lower reaches of the top league, I suspect my position might be a bit different, right enough.
Anyway, I'd be interested to hear folks' thoughts based on our current circumstances as a club.

There was a bit in yesterday's PDE with him yesterday ahead Saturdays cup game.

I wasn't aware that it was his penalty that Sammo saved, which makes me love him more than before. Though I wouldn't want to celebrate his misfortune.

He then went on to say all his family were Aberdeen fans and my favourite bit was "none of this Old Firm nonsense" brilliant what a guy.

Yeah, I can't see him starting too many games unless there comes a point in the season where we need to grind in from the start.
Like Craig Storie last season though, he'll certainly play his role and it will be an important one. Storie came on for last 5-10 minutes in a few league games towards the end of the season where we were a goal up or trying to see it out and provided just what we needed.

Have to be happy with that as has been written could have walked for nothing plus we get Morgan till the end of the season. Morgan had a huge part to play on this Jack is documented in saying Morgan wanted to make sure Saints were rewarded for giving him the platform and that he wanted to stay until the end of the season to help our promotion push what a legend not many players take their club into consideration.

You'd only end up with League One being half Colt teams, no doubt in the top half and unable to be promoted. You then have the ludicrous situation of a team in 6th being the first team eligible to go up, but you can't really go with that. Retain the youth leagues, have larger professional leagues (allowing room to blood youth) and ditch the Project Brave nonsense.

    JACK ROSS INTERVIEW
Jack Ross interview: ‘I always believed I could be a good manager. I have faith in myself’
Jack Ross, St Mirren’s saviour, explains his outlook to Graham Spiers and admits sometimes it’s not possible to influence the action
Graham Spiers September 16 2017, 12:01am, The Times
Ross says that he is obsessed with winning the league title at St MirrenROBERT PERRY/THE TIMES Share Save I asked Jack Ross what the secret of his success is. And success it has been: at Alloa Athletic, where he transformed the club’s fortunes, and now at St Mirren, who are currently seven wins out of eight and leading the Ladbrokes Championship. How does he do it?
“I think you can put too much weight on how good a manager or coach is,” he says. “You can do all your preparation work, working on this and that, but when the game starts there is a reactive side to it that only the players can control on the pitch.
“I might work on one or two strengths or weaknesses — ours or our opponents’ — before a game. But there is uncertainty in sport. That’s why we go and watch it: you don’t know what is going to happen. You can’t sanitise it. A manager has to trust himself, but that also means knowing that you cannot cover every eventuality on the pitch.”
He makes for impressive company, sitting in his tiny manager’s office at the St Mirren training complex. Ross is thoughtful, articulate, at times modest and at times not, and is devoted to turning around the Paisley Buddies. On his whiteboard behind his desk are notes on “Tactical Periodisation”. At 41 years old, he appears the very essence of a modern coach. “The game has definitely evolved,” he says.
“The analysis side of it now is so big. The knowledge that managers, coaches and players have prior to games is huge compared to what it used to be.
“When I was a young player, quite often you wouldn’t know the opposition shape or personnel; you just went out and played. But nowadays the amount of footage and data available is vast. You can collate a lot of information, and teams will now set up and try to counter the way the other team is playing.
“I heard Davie Moyes say recently that, for him, the in-game management is now far more challenging for managers. He meant changes you make in games, which subs you put on, and why you make certain decisions. Davie thinks that aspect is tougher and bigger than ever, and I think it’s because of the vast amount of information available now to managers.”
After the Scotland-England 2-2 draw at Hampden in June, Gareth Southgate, the England manager, said: “It was hard to control. The game took on a narrative of its own.” Ross concedes that, while he desires as much influence as possible as a manager, it can’t always be there.
“Firstly, you can think you are the best manager out there but, if you don’t have the players, you can’t make it work. Certainly, the players need to buy in to whatever you are asking them to do. You won’t have great success — no matter how good you are — without good players.
“Then there is your influence. We played Caley Thistle last week. The week before we’d played Dundee United [they won 3-0] and I’d thought, ‘yep, this is good, this plan has worked’. But against Inverness there were something like five goals in a 15-minute spell in the second half, and I was trying to figure out how to get some sort of control of it. The game just stretched and people on the pitch did what they wanted. What can you do? Sometimes you can’t affect it. You just hope you come out of it on the right side.”
Ross is refreshingly immodest about his ability as a manager. He thinks he possesses the talent to make more than a decent fist of it. “When I played, I always wanted to become a manager. I always believed I could be good at it. I still feel I might be good at it. I don’t mean to sound arrogant or conceited, I just have a faith in myself in this role. I know it can be a precarious job, but I don’t live in fear of getting the sack. I only live in fear of not doing my job properly. That’s what drives me on.
“I’m obsessed with winning the league. I’m obsessed with taking this club forward. But I don’t work stupid hours; I just work effectively. I’m in here first thing in the morning until tea time. It’s easy to say, ‘oh, I work 70 hours a week’ but I think, if I can work 45 hours a week, and work well, then that’s fine. I try to work smart. I don’t need to justify my existence by working 70 hours a week. I just try to do my job properly.”
His success in Paisley has been remarkable. St Mirren were rock bottom of the Championship table last October when Ross took over, but he somehow kept them up — when relegation looked likelier — and is now leading the charge to reach the top tier. Moreover, when other managers might have thought against doing so, Ross declared at the start of the season that promotion was his goal.
“I made it quite clear: I wanted promotion. Yes, it put more pressure on me, but that’s fine. I think you should feel pressure as a manager. I feel pressure before every single game. Feeling anxious, feeling pressure, feeling uptight … I think most managers would admit to that. I enjoy the pressure side of it. So should the players. The most successful footballers deal with pressure week in and week out. From the pressure felt, either as a manager or a player, that’s where you get your edge. I’m not sure I ever want to lose that.”
More than a few people are pointing at Ross and earmarking him as Scotland’s next hot ticket as a manager. In his pleasant way, he shrugs off the compliment. “I’ve always been ambitious, I’ve always tried to push myself,” he says. “But this is my job and I just want to be successful at it. Where this will all lead me, I don’t know. I don’t get too caught up wondering about any of that.
“As I said, I believe in myself, I think I can do this, but I hope that doesn’t sound arrogant. There are a lot of good young managers or coaches in Scotland, so we can all be the flavour of the month at some point. This is a precarious job; you never know what’s going to happen.
“I feel very aware that, for all the information we have, you can only influence so much from the sidelines. The key is recruitment, getting in the right players, then being able to get the very best out of them via your man-management.
“If you can do that, you’ve got a chance.”

Maybe a little early to say he plays like George Best, but I see what you mean.
For the time being I'd liken him to the young James McFadden only blessed with lightening pace. And if Faddy had pace he'd have been a frightening prospect.

Morgan has made it clear to the club he isn't signing a new contract.

Even if we offer him the most we possibly can, he will easily better that elsewhere. He leaves for a fee in January or for next to nothing in the summer.

Let's enjoy him while he's here.

Way I look at it, unless god forbid he gets a serious injury (like someone spearing him with a corner flag for example), John's value is only going to increase.
He's 2 years left of his current deal.
Hibs aren't daft, they are trying to get him to sign a new deal and if he doesn't then they will sell him next summer.
We'll get our money eventually. I'm not arsed when it comes as long as it's LOADS!

We were superb today. Probably most comfortable we have been for a good while. Should have scored more would have been a better reflection on things.

Comfortable day for Sammy, could good saves at 0-0. Seems much more confident than he did in pre- season.

Back 3 all deserve credit, Buchanan was written off far too quickly. Baird strolled it. Eckersley is a fantastic player at this level.

Liam Smith was excellent and works well with Lewis. Stelios a bit quieter than normal but always good for getting the fans on their feet.

McGinn and McShane bossed it, good to see McShane get a good goal. Hopefully he will keep improving

They couldn't cope with our forward players at all. Reilly puts in some shift every week, didn't work out for him today in terms of goals but he was all over their bombscare defenders. Smith is brilliant on the ball, would like to see him have a go from distance a bit more.

Lewis Morgan on today's form is unplayable in this league and genuinely could be the difference between promotion and being also rans.

Dundee Utd look poor, king and McMullan are absolutely gutless players, McDonald is finished, will pop up with the odd goal but he's done. Durnan is the worst football player I've ever seen, incapable of making the most basic of actions.

Worth bearing in mind today's result was achieved without Gary Mac, Magennis and Harry Davies. Also squad players such as Hilson and Todd.
