See that wheeler dealer manager we should have had before the last transfer window , well that's the kind of guy we need in place now , to identify potential signings for next season , we badly need 6 or 7 fit experienced player aged between 24 - 29 who can graft in the lower leagues .
I hate to admit it , but I think its relegation for us , and to bounce back up , we should be trying to put together a hard working experienced squad to challenge with effect from now .
Our other main priority is get us playing in a decent strip five black vertical stripes on a white shirt , if we can,t play like Juventes at least we would look like them.

The fighting spirit shown by Ross County and Motherwell in recent weeks suggests that they will be no pushovers come the play offs , I was hoping we would also come good , but it seems not to be , hopefully a bit of luck against Celtic and wins against Motherwell and Ross County will help .
Also think Forfar will win League One ( got them at 10/1 at start of season )

The most important issue facing the club at the moment!
What does GT know about the lower leagues currently - it's over a decade since he left Ayr Utd.
We've got to bite the bullet and go for either Steve Aitken (my choice) or Ian Murray even if GT is still contracted for next season!

Tommy Craig in the job within a matter of hours ON A 2 YEAR DEAL.
Criticises and insults own fans at a Q&A night.
Keeps Tommy Craig in the job until November.
Takes 8 weeks to appoint new manager.
Appoints untried player/coach and head of youth.
You almost wouldn't believe our board are St Mirren fans. That reads like a Morton fan bought the club to run us into the ground!

John Paton I think was trying to set himself up for a job when he was trying to package the club to sell to Reg Brearley
With regards to the club ending up in a mess , there are two main reasons firstly the club spent big trying to put together a team capable of challenging for a European place , and those that were bought were not good enough to sell on at a profit . And secondly we spent loads on building a massive away stand to house average away crowds of 300.
The current board of the directors at the time have to take responsibility , and the only thing that they could have been accused of was being ambitious , and wanting St Mirren to do well .
I believe that's why our current B of D are being so prudent , as one or two bad decisions can put us down there again.

Had a 30 minute call from Iain early last night and he will get back to me next week. He would love to attend. A wee update on players that have now confirmed with us. Doug Somner, Jackie Copland, Alan Logan Jeff Curran, Campbell Money Jimmy Bone, Brian Docherty, Lex Richardson, Billy Stark, Alex Beckett, Peter Weir and Ricky McFarlane, of the others that played in the competition. We are waiting on word from Billy Thompson, John Young, Iain Munro, Mark Fulton, Bobby Torrance, Andy Dunlop. Frank McDougal is in Brazil and we are trying to contact him. Only player we have no contact with at the moment is John Dempster (anyone have contact with John) So it looks good for almost a full turnout from the players.

Bobby passed away 38 years ago yesterday , along with Ian Lister he was one of my first favourite Saints players , 38 goals in 125 games , not bad for a winger.

West Ham played him in midfield like we did when he first broke through
16 league goals for us and i'm sure he missed a few games that season
Worked out 1 goal from 2 games good going for a team like us as well many assists for Brian Gallagher lol
If Macca had been wearing a hooped jersey that season he would have been straight in no questions asked

Looking back on that period , we had a quality group of young players coming through , then relatively few decent young players coming through until Fergie arrived on the scene ( Fitzy being the exception ) , we didn,t seem to be signing the right type of experienced player , just rejects , who stayed a season with us and then disappeared ( young and Becket being the exception ).
One of these guys was a guy called Drew Rodgerson , who was brought in to replace Gordon McQueen , think he would have been brought in by Wullie Cunningham , met him about ten years ago , when he told me he was bought by Fergie , to help develop Gordon McQueen as a player , he told ne the story so convincingly , that I didn,t want to tell him he was bullshitting .
That and the fact the Drew Rodgerson was a big lad , and I didn,t want to upset him

Yet strangely, it coincided with probably the worst period in the club's history on the field...
You wonder how bad things would have been without top players like these...
I am too young to remember McKean but his goalscoring record for a winger was amazing.
I remember Iain Munro being my favourite player as a wee boy during his second spell at Love Street.
And in one of those 'claim to fame' stories, a woman I work with revealed last week that her dad's cousin is Gordon McQueen. She had no idea that Gordon had played for St. Mirren nor the fact that he was a world class defender in his day!
    As you

Billy Stark probably tops the list for me...
What you need to remember though is that Scotland had many quality players back in the day.
I was reading the other day about the Aston Villa side that won the European Cup. They had 3 Scots in the side, central defenders Ken McNaught & Allan Evans plus midfielder Des Bremner.
McNaught never won a single cap, while Bremner won 1 at Hibs before he joined Villa. Evans won 8.
These guys were regulars, week in and week out, won the English league and were champions of Europe...
Yet the likes of Ally Dawson, Colin Jackson, etc were getting games for Scotland!
I always remember Steve Clarke. After he left Love Street he spent more than 10 years as Chelsea's regular right back. Yet he only won 5 caps. Tom Boyd however lasted just 6 months at Chelsea before they got shot of him as a makeweight to sign Tony Cascarino FFS! And Boyd won over 70 caps! FFS, Stewart McKimmie won a barrowload of caps in the same era!

I find it sad that there is no role for tony at our club. He is an absolute club legend and having him about the place would undoubtedly lift both players and fans. Could tony come in and help Gary from now till the end of the season. Another pair of eyes and a man who can motivate. Just a thought but I would be delighted to see him involved.
