I would only really play 11s in a league. I've played in 5s and 7s leagues before and not really enjoyed it. I play these games for a laugh, so I can shoot from the halfway line and try tricks and flicks I know I can't pull off. When you play in a League people take it too seriously, I can't be bothered with all that. For me It's 11-a-sides for competitive football, everything else is a kick about, I want to win obviously, but it's more for fun than anything else...

Surely it's a case of...if you book the pitch and no show then the next time you want the pitch, you have to pay the club the 4 week fee. Use the policy as a punishment for those costing the club money.
Asking groups who haven't missed a booking to pay up front is a more than a tad unfair.
Get our resident right back and board member on the case...

Good game tonight, much better when both teams have a keeper. Gutted to lose late on after doing so well to pull it back from 3-0 to 3-3.

Div should allow love street to open his own topic, in which he lists these four signings he says he knows we've made...or whatever crap he's saying is gonna happen with transfers. Then Div locks it immediately so no one can see it. Then it's opened for all to see the first day of the season.

I was playing in Moulded studs last night, as were most people. They're perfect for the astro

Talented young players are going to move onwards and upwards, it's part of supporting a smaller club, learn to live with it. Would you rather see guys like McGinn and McLean walk away for pennies, or would you rather we got the cash we deserve for them?
Also, Hamilton had to use the money from the McArthy and McArthur deals to service their debt. We could put the majority of that money back into the playing squad.

The reason we won't get such big transfer fees for our young players is that we cling to the fantasy that we have the slightest chance of holding on to them if a big club comes in. Hamilton knew that any player with half decent ability would leave eventually, so it's in their best interests to talk them up from day 1 to try and get a huge pay off when they inevitably leave. We talk our players down in the hope that the good ones might slip under the radar of the bigger clubs, it's not going to happen, their scouting networks are far too good. Make no mistake, all the Championship clubs will already be well aware of any decent young footballers in the SPL. But it's the ones with the huge hype in the media that they'll have to pay through the nose for. McHattie and McGowan from Hearts are prime examples, neither are as good as McGinn but Hearts have been making a big fuss about them since they broke into the first team, that fuss will eventually lead to a big transfer fee. I don't want to lose McGinn, but I'd also hate to think that playing in the SPL for St Mirren was the height of his ambitions, I just want us to be fairly compensated when he does go...

Although we have several midfielders, we still lack a true centre mid, someone in the middle of the park who does the lot. McGowan, McLean, McGinn and Harkins are more attack minded, Goodwin is more defensive and Robertson is a box to box type. If we're going to play the 3 in the middle, we need a guy who truly belongs right at hear of midfield, who can defend when he has to, and pick a pass when he can. That's Arfield down to the ground. Creative but disciplined.

Makes sense to me...he'd be a fantastic signing. Must have been on a fair wage at Huddersfield though. Hope this one isn't a wind up!

Transfer window opens on Monday, so most players being announced by other clubs aren't officially signed yet. We've been made to look stupid in the past by announcing deals before they're signed and sealed.
Take a chill pill everybody. Deals will be announce in the not too distant future - the club won't have been sitting around doing nothing since the season ended.

    Where does this end, though?
Surely there must be a realistic cut-off point when it comes to kids who, though demonstrating some potential, haven't shown that they have what it takes to genuinely break into the first team.
Everyone else (well, not quite everyone) is having to accept that belt-tightening is the order of the day, so surely that must apply to 18-year-old kids who kick a ball about? These lads are learning. Most young folk can't expect to be paid handsomely for this, and many of those in further and higher education have to work weekends and nights, and/or get themselves into debt in order to develop their potential. What marks young footballers out as deserving of special treatment?

Of any of the players who have been talked about as potential signings, he was the one I really hoped we got. He's a fantastic footballer. I have to say though, when McGowan signed I thought that would rule out a move for Harkins, in my mind he would have been perfect for that Gowser role behind the striker. Will be interesting to see if he gets pushed wide left or drops deeper into midfield.
Either way I'm delighted he's signed up, definitely a player who adds quality to the squad...

Was dissapointed when we spent money on him. I then spent a season and a half hoping he would prove me wrong...never came close unfortunately. Hard working but never SPL standard...

Get him signed if he's available...he's better than what we have, so it seems simple enough to me...He may be on a decent pay at Hearts but if they're letting him go, he's going to have to expect to take a wage cut...
Get in there first Danny, he's what we need...

If this had showed up in the rumour mill it would have been a case of, "sounds good, won't happen"...
I think most clubs in the SPL would have happily taken a punt on a young player like this. At 21 he's already played a fair bit of first team football and gained positive reviews at quite a high level.
Looks like we have very little to lose here, and potentially a fair bit to gain!
    Welcome to the Saints Esmael!

    3 words....
    In a heartbeat.
Anyone who doesn't appreciate what Lappin brought to Saints would do well to think back to the period after he picked up an injury in the season before he left us and our form dipped correspondingly. He was Sutton's supply route much of the time, and could also hit a decent strike himself. We've not had anyone who has come close to his crossing ability since he left, IMO.
We couldn't afford him, but I'd welcome him back with open arms - a great player.
