All this thread goes to prove is how difficult it is for a club with our sort of budget to consistently compete in the massive gamble that is today's signing market. I really don't envy any manager attempting to build a team to compete when you are so relatively far down the food chain and faced with players of limited ability (and in many cases even more limited enthusiasm) with vastly inflated ego's. It perfectly highlights the old adage that every signing is indeed a gamble.

If Rae had taken a free ticket in with the prawn sandwich brigade he'd be accused of not putting money back into Scottish football or some such. He can't really win.
In all honesty, I dreaded something like this when Rae was appointed. I was concerned he would openly flaunt his Rangers leanings in the press and online, but to my pleasant surprise, he hasn't. He has been nothing but respectful towards his employers and the job at hand, and to the St Mirren supporters. He does not need to do this, but he has out of courtesy.
He isn't wearing Rangers "colours" in that photo. And as far as I'm aware, he wasn't belting out The Sash during the game. He is a paying supporter watching his former club (well, disguised as his former club). Unfortunately that club happens to be one of the Old Firm.
This is in stark contrast to Carswell's actions, who without any respect or regard for the club or fans who pay his wages, gladly belittled his team's local derby. In an era where St Mirren are trying to grow a fanbase and change a generation-old OF-centric mindset in Paisley/Renfrewshire, Carswell perpetuated this destructive way of thinking as an employee of the club, and should be setting a better example.
In sum; Rae = good guy, Carswell = wank.

I don't intend getting embroiled in tit for tat, point scoring debate over this one. I'll happily note the (often legitimate) concerns and queries of others, and any responses that might be forthcoming, but the future of the club is at stake here.
I've decided that this is a punt I'm willing to take. I hope others feel confident in doing the same. There are no guarantees, but life doesn't come with many of those, and this seems to be an opportunity that might not come along again any time soon if we pass it up this time. It'll only work if we, as a collective, want it to, and put a bit of work and resource into achieving it, as others already have.

Thought we deserved a point, probably because Raith took their foot off the gas in the second half, but still, with Shankland missing an open goal and a few more flurries around their penalty box, I think we deserved a point.
Still cannot hide the bleedin' obvious though, this is a very poor St Mirren squad with one or two exceptions. Alex Rae at least tried to change it up at half time, instead of sitting on his hands doing jack shit until the last ten minutes. Men of the match were clearly Raith's No 11 and the wee No 18 who worked in tandem.

As an aside, use a couple of hundred quid from their money to actually get the Hall of Fame panel you received the artwork for back in early January printed and installed. It's only taken over two years and after being asked to do the artwork in December, and doing it for you over the Christmas holidays, you still haven't bothered to print and install a simple printed panel and we're halfway through March. How fcuking hard can it be FFS? Useless fcuking Sevco arse-licking barstewards.

Going with the current offside rules Clarkson is the only player who could be deemed to be infringing the offside rule.
Any other player in an offside position is doing so legally and not deemed to be an offence according to the offside rule.

I'm sure the ref will claim that he had seen a foul committed and was playing advantage.
When the ball played him, Falkirk lost any advantage and play was taken back to the free kick award.

I really hope that we start sending some of these lads out on loan to clubs in the first and second divisions as whilst they are promising we need them mixing with more toughened players. From reading various reports there are a number of that group that could be making the step up over the next 18 months, so it would be beneficial that we help then find their feet quickly by exposing them to first team competitive football.

There's no problem with teaching kids the right things - control, passing, movement, being comfortable on the ball etc - in fact, it has to be done. I think what Rae is pointing out that there's no point in asking players who aren't comfortable with the ball to play in that way.
If we bring through players who are good enough to play that way in the environment of professional football, I doubt that there are many managers who wouldn't want to encourage it.

For me Clarkson was MOM, he dragged defenders all over the place,made space, his movement was terrific, he will be good .
Keith Watson was a close second,Clarkson took a knock and has not played much and that was why he was subbed.

Your "contribution" is frankly a lot of tedious repetitive shite. In my opinion.

It would be marvellous to beat them and hunt them into the Play-offs where we could meet and beat them again.

Some positives. Way better than the livi game. Against a good Thistle side which are sniffing top six and unlucky to loose at parkhead we pretty much held them in a shite fest for 60 minutes. The Defence looked positive but we needed to be sharper defending corners. In the middle we at least kept our shape, and closed down space. Stewart looked comfortable when he came on and looked ok although I'd have thought pushing Kelly into the midfield would have been a better option. Up front Shankland worked hard and when Thommo came on he looked better than he's played for over a year (maybe he's playing for a contract extension.) A bit of dig at the end showed there could be something there.
The negatives Midfield created nothing too lightweight and offered little resistance or cover. Webster and Langfield should be taking more responsibility. Agnew, McMullan, Mallan, Howison not one of them offered anything. Midfield too static with no movement and not quick enough to get forward. Too many back passes.

Whether or not he has been brilliant or not, Shankland has started the last 2 games partnered by Gallagher and has scored in both games. Many people were calling for Shankland to be sent back to Aberdeen in January to free up a wage and allow Rae to bring in another striker. Even when he is coming on for 15 or 20 minutes against tired legs Thommo still looks off the pace / disinterested / unlikely to score an equaliser or winner. Do I blame Thommo for results when he is out the side? No I don't! He got a decent run of games last year after he came back from injury and scored 2 league goals last season. With half the season played this year he is on 1 league goal. All I 'blame' Thommo for is his own performance and attitude when he is on the park... even when given a spot kick to take he doesn't look like scoring these days. I'd rather we called time on his career at Saints now than sent our top scorer back to Aberdeen and hoped Thommo recovered some fitness / confidence / enthusiasm and scored a few goals to keep us in the Championship next season without seeing many signs in the last 18 months he can do this for us anymore.
