Watched last night, usual bunch of wannabees who are putting themselves up for ridicule.
    They deserve it.
Cheap TV? Aye, £250,000 for the winner.

Not a good performance from us but Brechin were much better than I expected if I'm being honest.
If we put a performance like that in 12 months ago there's no way we would have won the game so I'm delighted we can grind out a result like that.
Fans need to be more patient, positive and supportive when things aren't great. It's a long season and getting on players backs will not help anyone.

Unfortunately the practice of having to pick out a perceived 'weak point' in the team for the focus of all frustration seems to be endemic among our support.
At the start of pre season it was Samson who was the target after dropping one in against Dundee. 'We should never have f**king brought him back, he wasn't good enough last time and he's still not good enough' one shout from behind me came, 6 minutes into his debut.
Sammy then settled many nerves and it was Jack Baird after that. Yes, he was deservedly criticised after his mistakes at Cappielow but the one performance was enough to convince several that he'll never be at a level required and was enough of a basis to justify him staying out of the side indefinitely. Jack returns and looks excellent for several weeks. Time to move on.
Gary Irvine isnt in the side so he's escaped the ire as he's normally a bit of a heat magnet.
So it falls at the lap of the big gangly awkward looking lad who hasn't really done anything to justify the frustration being thrown at him. He's got a decent touch, retains possession, can make the ball stick in the final third, has a great ethic and strong positional sense. But he's ungainly, runs awkward and is lanky so sticks out like a sore thumb. There were 4 young lads of about 17 at the East Kilbride game who sat behind me and whilst not shouting, were actively discussing how 'he's so f**king shite' and 'what a lump of wood' even when he scored the winner 'it wasn't even a good goal anyway, it was easy to put that one away' I ended up turning around and laughing at them and telling them thank f**k they aren't in charge of the side.
Think it's time we started laying off our players when they are clearly giving it everything and mostly to good effect.  These are relatively good times and they don't come around often. There's always room for improvement and constructive criticism is part of that, that's understandable but some of the sustained abuse isn't warranted. I always love hearing those who are loudest in their criticism then being vocally supportive when the subject of it turns their form around as it shows objectiveness and the willingness to give the player a chance based on merit rather than preconceptions. Unfortunately that doesn't happen too often, the two options are vocal abuse or passive silent seethe that said player is proving their precious opinion wrong.

Great support of a 20 year old boy settling into first team football for the first time in his career
I actually think the big man has been quite useful so far. Very raw, granted, but I think he'll become a good player for us.

Great post, what value is attained by abusing our young players? Some people need to look at the big picture, we are trying to win a league here!! We fought and fought to win this game today against a very stuffy Brechin team!!

You seem to be in a minority with this opinion.
Interesting post though. You know Ross is just 21 years old and you know players read these forums but you post this abuse anyway?
Is that because you believe your right to post whatever garbage leaps to your brain outranks the effect of your abuse on a young lad at our club or because you have an IQ in single figures?
BTW do you know who setup today's winner?

Morgan IMHO is a the outstanding young player in Scotland today. He's certainly better than any of the OF/Sevco superstars that were handed caps at that age and younger.
However, I notice that getting capped early did they're careers no good at all, so I'm not desperately keen to have him over exposed at a young age.
Against that if he's leaving at the end of the season a full Scotland cap would add £££ to the asking price.

Really good article, and it highlights how difficult things are at big clubs, one of the young lads at my place of work came up to Saints on trial from Newcastle around the 2014 time, he didn't like it (odd but true) went back to Newcastle and eventually drifted out of the game. Part of that was his inability to deal with the restrictions on his life that being at Newcastle held but there was also the lack of opportunity at the club he loves. Having heard his story I am more and more impressed with the dedication that our youngsters show in their attitude and application just to get game time. When those that do break through have a bad game I for one will think twice before criticising them.

Oh what a joy it is to go back on the official forum now and watch the tumbleweeds roll by with no bullshit from SD pissing people off, got to admit I only joined here as I was so fed up with him on the official forum.

Now he is back on here I will go back over there with occasional forays onto here trying to filter out the SD crap and just focus on the interesting bits.

You have the laws of robotics and then you have the laws of SD
    1. SD is always right.
    2. If you disagree with SD you must be wrong.
    3. Law 1 takes precedence in all conversations.

A big, huge, steaming FFS for this LBGBTBBEEGEE shoite. It's a fcuking dancing entertainment show.... why does her sexual orientation need to come into it? She's damn right - she just wants to go on the show and learn to dance. A bolshie gobshite gay element wants her to dance with another gay woman? Good luck finding one that could lift the wee fatty off the floor for the big lifts. That's man's work that is.... joking.... although, maybe Clare Balding would manage it. Is Laura Davies the golfer gay? Give her a call.

I think we're looking good for this one. Lewis Morgan was missing from the game Vs Heart Colts, but played in a properly tough fixture against Netherlands U21s and put in yet another Man of the Match performance. Another big boost to his confidence that allows him to maintain the teriffic momentum he's built up so far this season. In the less competitive game our first team played at the weekend, our main striker got himself a couple of nice goals.
Things are bubbling away nicely at the moment. In the past I'd have had that feeling in the pit of my stomach, that this would be where we'd come off the rails. But I think this group, players and staff together, have a different attitude, a confidence that we WILL win games and NO-ONE will get an easy 3 points when visiting St Mirren Park.
We've all seen us play well for periods and then choke or just about scrape through on the big occasions, but that seems to have changed recently. Ayr was a massive game, should have been a nervy day...6-2. Raith came knowing a win would effectively save them, should have been tense...5-0. I believe this team has the mental strength to deal with the big games, add to that the technical ability of the players and the strength in depth we'll have when everyone's fit, and I think this could be a special season.
I don't do predictions, but I'll be disapointed with anything other than a win, and won't be surprised if we're pretty dominant. Even against a side who've been a bogey team for us so far in their short history.
    COYS!

That Dundee United defence couldn't cope with anything. They couldn't cope with Morgan, they couldn't cope with Stelios. They couldn't cope with the interplay between McGinn and Reilly. They couldn't cope with the high balls we played over them that forced their carthorse Nos 4&5 to try and turn quickly. Their keeper couldn't cope - he allowed a corner to smack off his bar. He charged out of his goalmouth and missed everything - ball, Reilly, his own defender.... if anyone reading this lives near the 2021 - nip down and see if he's made it back onto his goal-line yet.

The most enjoyable home league game in a long time... eclipsing the Hibs game of last season.
Not a failure in the team.
Mega kudos to Jack and James for setting the team up in a formation that suited our players and totally nullified the opposition.
United are not that awful... we just made them seem that way by being so good!
Morgan was the eye catcher... but in all honestly that was the most complete team effort I have seen in many a year.
Captain McGinn was indeed Captain Marvel.
To those who said he and McShane cannot play in the same midfield... any chance you could let the gaffer work on things in training and trust him? He signed McShane to play alongside McGinn!
To those who wrote off Buchanan after a match or two... any chance you could let the gaffer work on things in training and trust him? His judgement has been pretty sound so far!
Baird? Didn't even notice him... he was that quietly effective.
Unsung hero of the match and my man of the match... Eckersley!
The experience and stability he brings to the defence is incredible and essential.
The number of times he effortlessly covered for other players was incredible. His reading of the game quite exceptional.
That the system today allowed both he and Stelios to perform was genius on Jack's part.
Genuinely excited at the match today and BY that match today... a real statement of intent!

We were superb today. Probably most comfortable we have been for a good while. Should have scored more would have been a better reflection on things.

Comfortable day for Sammy, could good saves at 0-0. Seems much more confident than he did in pre- season.

Back 3 all deserve credit, Buchanan was written off far too quickly. Baird strolled it. Eckersley is a fantastic player at this level.

Liam Smith was excellent and works well with Lewis. Stelios a bit quieter than normal but always good for getting the fans on their feet.

McGinn and McShane bossed it, good to see McShane get a good goal. Hopefully he will keep improving

They couldn't cope with our forward players at all. Reilly puts in some shift every week, didn't work out for him today in terms of goals but he was all over their bombscare defenders. Smith is brilliant on the ball, would like to see him have a go from distance a bit more.

Lewis Morgan on today's form is unplayable in this league and genuinely could be the difference between promotion and being also rans.

Dundee Utd look poor, king and McMullan are absolutely gutless players, McDonald is finished, will pop up with the odd goal but he's done. Durnan is the worst football player I've ever seen, incapable of making the most basic of actions.

Worth bearing in mind today's result was achieved without Gary Mac, Magennis and Harry Davies. Also squad players such as Hilson and Todd.

    Indeed you did.
While Morgan deserves all the plaudits that come his way, I think he was two thirds toward the perfect hat trick, I would like to add that young Liam Smith was fantastic too. I for one would be happy to have him in the team in place of Irvine who I rate highly. Baird has been getting dog's abuse by some on here but today he must have rammed the criticism down some throats. Ecks was, well, Ecks. Buchannan is another one for the detractors but I felt he was great v Morton when introduced and v Livingstone, both in adverse situations.
Someone mentioned how poor DU were but I think that demeans what our boys did. They didn't let United settle on the ball, especially first half where we defended from the front.
    Fantastic team  performance.
BTW. Who said the new ground was soulless? When we score the second the place was rocking. Hairs on the back of my neck were tingling!

First game of the season for me due to other commitments and what a game it was! That really was an excellent performance from Saints today, enough so that I've immediately raised my hopes for this season. Genuine title contenders.

The combination of Smith, Reilly and the utterly outstanding Morgan have such a dynamism, energy and quality about them, Dundee united were absolutely rag dolled today.   Wonderful quality of goals as well.

Understand the defence hasn't't been up to much but it was faultless today. I like the back three and the personnel are there for that system. Fingers crossed Smith's injury isn't serious as he filled that role well today, lots of running and intelligent use of the ball. Stelios never stops either. Samson was very assured as well.

I never knew Raymie but thought the applause was a great moment and would have meant a lot to those that did. Always quite emotional seeing the opposition fans joining in I think, so credit to the Arabs.

Absolute joy to be there today, the best performance I've seen under JR. This could be a very, very special season.
