But......doesn't it show he lacked commitment to the club?

OK, if given his way, of travelling daily could easily have missed training the day before an important game because of a cabin crew strike, bad weather, a suspicious piece of luggage, you name it.

Wouldn't have bothered him though apparently.

I'm afraid you're missing the point though. If it has gone down the way it's being reported, the simple notion of even asking the question to change the goalposts is a red flag in itself.
It's not quite as full on as leaving the web browser in work open on indeed.com but it's not a boot in the arse away.
If you're looking to manufacture a conflict, safe in the knowledge you have a cushy number waiting for you back home if things don't go your way, it's really easy to do.

I'm not saying neither party is blameless and I really like OK. I'd be raging if this appeared to be a petty squabble but I will stand by GLS for protecting the interests of SMFC before I'll stand by a manager going into chancing it territory.

Yeah, its definitely 100% Scott's fault that Oran wanted to change the arrangement from last season, sold his house in Paisley, then conveniently decided he could no longer work with Scott when it turned out that the Coleraine job was back on the table. f**k sake, you don't like Scott, we get it,  but are you really so blind you can't see that the one person this all works out perfectly for is Kearney?

To be fair, what kind of mugs would we be if we turned up to play this game if Coleraine have been tapping up our manager and trying to get him without paying us compensation?
Considering this game is supposed to be part of the package from us to Coleraine for Kearney, it'll probably tell you a lot about where the blame for the current situation lies if it does get canned.

Sorry mate, but it looks very much like Kearney has worked his ticket here by trying to change the agreement and manufacture a conflict. We will see what happens, but it looks very much like he's going to walk out of here with a payoff, straight into the job he actually wants, to a team we paid money to to get him from, for nothing. We will have been f**king rinsed.

Has Kearney actually been quoted saying that? I know people don't like Scott, for whatever reasons, and Kearney did well in the end for us, but this all coming out just as Coleraine announce they've missed out on their latest manager target and the position is still open seems very convenient. I'm not sure Kearney will be looking for a payoff, but I think he'll be looking to negotiate something to allow him to walk away without us going after Coleraine for tapping him up and looking for compensation.

All this stuff about him having to travel home to his family really is taking the biscuit.
Thousands of people work away from home for much longer periods of time and get on with it.
Obviously it's his choice but it's hardly a tough gig, along with a decent salary, plenty would take that over working 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

Well this is certainly going to be a big test of the supposed "stability" Gus has brought to the club.
These rumours have been going on for a long time now, they do destabilise the club, and I can see why GS would put down an ultimatum to Kearney to move over full time to Scotland. I can also fully understand and respect Kearney not wanting to take his kids out of school for a job where a bad run of results can see him out the door by Xmas.
As regards to Gus or the board "undermining the manager'? What exactly did people think the DoF role and the talk of the "moneyball" model would mean? It has been stated that any player should be scouted and watched multiple times before being signed. Did you really expect the club to employ Gus full time to oversee this & then let the manager just sign whoever he wants?
The manager & assistant manager need to fit in to the culture of the club, not the other way round.
I've been fairly critical of him until now but I would probably back Gordon Scott here. If OK is going to commit to St Mirren and buy in to how we are trying to structure the club then great. If not, then get him out the door and ask Goodwin or a similarly talented young manager to come in.
I am a bit more concerned pre season is about to start and we haven't brought any players in. Whits happened to the Moneyball?

Goodwin isn't imminently  incoming for f**k sake. At least not to the stage it is a 'done deal'. This isn't even speculation, its just common sense.
Alloa would have absolutely 100% commented on their website that they'd accepted an approach from St. Mirren. That in turn would have confirmed OK was gone from us and been widely reported.
None of that has happened, so if Goodwin is a done deal, we've illegally tapped him up and offered him terms which he's accepted without the permission fo his current club and we are, therefore totally f**ked.
Common sense dictates it's a load of shite. Common sense has long since departed this station though.

So to summarise the current speculation on this thread:
    1) Oran is not leaving at all and it's all shite.
    2) Oran is leaving because of budgets constraints.
    3) Oran is leaving because he hates the commute.
    4) Oran is leaving because GLS will not tolerate him going home at the weekend.
    5) Oran has bought a house in Bridge of Weir.
    6) Oran has no plans to ever move over here.
    7) Oran has to go back home because his wife might be pregnant.
8 ) Oran is leaving because he has fallen out with GLS.
    9) Oran is leaving because he has fallen out with Gus.
    10) Oran is leaving because he doesn't get to sign the players.
    11) Gus doesn't sign the players either apparently.
    12) GLS had to persuade the board to sign Oran.
    13) The board had to persuade GLS to sign Oran.
    14) Oran is leaving because he can't get to choose his assistant.

I'm surprised that so many people seem to think Scott is the problem. I wouldn't call him trigger happy because he's got rid of poor managers.

Rae and Stubbs definitely fall into that category, and Kearney is on the cusp.

Every manager we've had under Scott, bar Rae, has been allowed to sign close to entirely new squad, hardly a poisonous act.

MacPhersons appointment appears to have worked with our January signings, and it's vital that we have someone at the club with the oversight and knowledge of transfer dealings. Along with another pair of eyes to scout opposition and players.

He got it wrong with Stubbs, quickly made a change to fix that, and although I don't think Kearney is the right choice, plenty of fans do, but our overall form and performances under him is enough to get rid of him, even without any other background drama.

What kid wants an old fashioned top they are the most likely to actually wear the strips to have one similar to juves kit is great and well done for the club.

A lot of old buggers need to stop their crying about tops they would never buy anyway

    Anyway....

    1)  Did he mean it knowing full well that he will be dismissed, pilloried and could even be arrested?  No I do not
    2)  Is he some sort of "celebrity" with a large enough following that he really ought to be held to some sort of standard?  Yes I do
    3)  Is the BBC a London centric pishbucket?  Yes it is
    4)  Should Danny Baker be sacked for being so incredibly stupid?  Yes he should
    5)  Would one of us mere mortals risk being dismissed from our menial and less important jobs (than celebrities have) had we tweeted something equally as stupid?  Yes we may well have
    6)  Should lessons be learned about what we post on social media?  Absolutely
    7)  Are people too easily offended these days?  Yes they are
    8)  Does this fake rage somehow justify the stupidity of posting such "risqué" things on social media?  No it does not
    9)   Is stupidity then a sackable offence?  Yes it is
    10)  Could Danny Bakers ill informed tweet cause upset to a new mother (regardless of who she is) should that new mother be exposed to this tweet?  Of course
    11)  Is upsetting new mothers by insulting the new born baby in any way justifiable?  No it is not
    12)  For those fathers amongst us, how would you react if some fudbucket posted a picture of a chimp/monkey/ape insinuating that your new child looked like this chimp/monkey/ape?  I would have tied him to a chair, cut his balls off and force fed them to him
    13)  So is Danny Baker a bit of a prick?  yes he is
    14)  Is he a racist prick?  Probably not
    15)  But a prick anyway?  Yes absolutely
    16) Does old Tom feel sorry for him?  Not in the slightest, not in the slightest indeed
