FS, the bit in bold I think is a bit of a red herring.....the board went straight back to an interviewee from the summer and through proper process appointed him within a couple of days.
We have no idea if anyone approached the club or chucked their hat into the ring, I think the club knew who they wanted (second time around granted) and may actually be part of the reason Stubbs was jettisoned quite so quickly

In my opinion people in this country view the Danske bank premier league as a diddy league but our league is viewed in the same way across Europe so in essence he is moving from one diddy league to another and I believe he is no longer a full time school teacher and part time football manager he is now the manager of our team St Mirren and as so deserves the respect and backing of us as supporters to do the best job he can in our own diddy league 

Regarding OK saying he wants to win the league, i' d be more concerned if he didn't want to.

Oran has how many YEARS ? 
Lots and lots. 

Are we hiring him in a management role? No
To judge him on his past for a new position is not fair and ridiculous.
Fowler didn't set the world on fire as a manager - solid assistant
Cathro same - Great coach
Gary Mccalister - Great coach
Many more examples of former managers having good careers in the game in different roles. 
Do you know for a fact he can't do the job of technical director before we know fully what the job will involve or are you basing it on a completely different role? Do you know this isn't something with OK blessing/ request?
Give the guy a chance.

I think we definitely need someone in that type of role if we have aspirations to be more than makeweights in the league. When we do well we will lose good players and staff to better teams, this appointment will implement a philosophy at club level about what we want from the coaching staff and will help ensure continuity. On the playing front it should help bring in players that can work in the setup we play under, and ensure that talent is spotted within our budgets.

In the interim it will help OK adjust and understand the game in Scotland.

With regards to Gus, I'm ambivalent either way. Yes he left under a cloud due to cup final and negative way of playing, but his remit under board was to avoid relegation and budgets cut under him regularly. However, feedback from Queens Park supporters I know is pretty positive for his wider role in their club. He's stable and reliable without being prone to jumping between extremes.

I certainly hope he doesn't go signing any more duds such as Michael Higdon, the young John Sutton, Charlie Adam, or this absolute waster:
If this happens I'd buy a season ticket just so I could throw it at the BoD.

Christ, you'd think we were bringing on Ross Tokely by some of the reactions. 
Jimmy Nicholl would be my preference if a fresh pair of eyes are coming in but MacPherson is well respected and although his teams were exceptionally boring at times, he did a good job for us overall. 
I'm not at all worried about this. If there is one concern - it would be the same as with any DoF type role in that the person in the role undermines the new manager. This must not be allowed to happen and OK must have the final say over his team. 

As you will see from Gordon Scott's quotes the primary problem they are trying to solve here is that of recruitment. GS mentions Stubbs "having to rely on other people" to know if players are good enough - something that clearly went wrong and lead to the change of manager.  I had actually just posted this on another thread, we need to make sure we are not left vulnerable by managerial changes again and end up with these terrible Craig / Rae / Stubbs transfer windows.
I'd imagine therefore the primary brief would be to build a network of contacts across the UK and Ireland and a database of players that we realistically could make a move for once we have a position to fill or once we see them as a sound investment.  I would also imagine as this is a full time paid position there would be an expectation for players aged between 16 and 23 to be scouted who we could generate transfer fees from, i.e the TD role pays for itself over time.
Possibly it also includes video analysis work and monitoring our normal opponents as well. There is so much information available now that it is too big a task for one person to manage themselves.
I think these are both areas we need to invest in and as the role requires someone who will stick with it long term Gus could be a very good shout indeed.

Everyone was critical of Stubbs not talking the club up and being a negative cloud over the club.

The most enjoyable seasons in the past 10 years have been with Danny and Jack in charge of the club, two guys that were mega positive and seemed to have an affinity with the club and fans. I won’t be criticising Oran for being positive.

Short interview, but like the cut of his jib. Got a good feeling about our new boss, but he’s going to need a lot time and patience from us fans to sort out Stubbs’ mess. Welcome to Paisley Oran and all the best!!

Two very young guys that believe they have made the move of a lifetime.  I'm hoping they have what it takes and do well in a better atmosphere and with a better, less divisive, coach. Fingers crossed for them. Hope they become Saints legends.
