I'm surprised at the reaction to this. 33 years old is nothing for a keeper so no issue with that. This is a guy who played in the top league for us regularly and won a national cup. Was he also not called into the Scotland squad at one point?

Maybe worth remembering what level we are at these days.

Excellent, solid signing. Just what we needed.

Goncalves is a legend in more ways than one. In April or May 2013, I alongwith another plain clothes cop, were sent to a report of a fight in a flat at Renfrew Village, think it was Mulberry Square. Went to flat, called for back up, heard loud noises within. Adrenalin pumping round body. Knocked on door and muscular, bare chested, black fellow answered door and was looking happy. Could have knocked me over with a feather. GONCALVES. Told him why we were there and invited us in. The flat looked like the end of a Saturday night in Club Slapper. Drink everywhere. Goncalves and 2 Portuguese fellows within. Turns out, Porto (I think) scored last minute goal to secure Portuguese league and the three of them were going mental, celebrating. We all laughed, I relaxed where he then invites me into his bedroom. Started getting nervous as he is a big boy but he then proceeds to open up a set of drawers where there were an assortment of replica St.Mirren strips from cup final, every player was there. All fully embroidered with the match details under our club crest. He then asks me to pick one. I took Thommohawk's jersey, thanked Mr Goncalves for his time where he invited me back to party after my shift where I had to decline. Went back to office, declared the gift and gave it to wee Saints mad boy in my street who burst out crying when he got the strip and it is still up on his bedroom wall today. Sorry for long winded story but good to remember a legend.

You mean this goal ? About 4 minutes in .

A roar and atmosphere at Love St , I've never heard at the new ground in our soulless stadium.

Ridiculous to even suggest sacking Jack Ross at this stage. Give the guy time. If we go down, and it still is an if, he should be allowed to build his own team and try to get us back up again. St Mirren need stability.

You can't really underplay how big a problem the players Ross has been lumbered with are, no matter how shite Ross apparently is, these players are seriously letting us down. The balance of the squad is terrible, and we are overly reliant on very young players who aren't really ready for this yet. There is no fight, or dig in the team. We are so fragile, and that is what is so damaging about Saturday's defeat: we all know this bunch of players can't bounce back from that. They don't have the spirt, the belief or the guts.
We've had some good players over the years who have dug us out of holes, but we also had some pretty f**king average players who at least had the baws to put a bad performance behind them and come again each week. Guys like Van Zanten, Murray, Potter, Gillies, Millen, Turner, Kean or Mehmet were never word beaters for example, but if we had a couple of players like them in the team right now we'd be nowhere near this position.

I'll say the same thing I said about Murray last year after he was appointed:

I hope he gets in an experienced assistant.

And by experienced i mean experienced in real life full time management, not experienced in football manager like Spalding was.

Didn't even get a mention on the bbc news that we had parted company with our manager, have we become that insignificant? It appears Joey Barton's petty squabbles are more important. So with that in mind, let's get behind the team and new manager whoever it may be and get us back where we belong! COYS.

Remember there are season ticket holders in the south stand too. I agree about the treatment of fans in the west stand, but I think it goes deeper than that, it's treatment of fans in general.  Remember the fiasco with rangers getting the south stand, kicking out season ticket holders from there? We are all in many ways taken for granted, if my sums are correct, my last 3 season tickets, including this season, have meant I have paid roughly £103 per win. So the club should be doing all it can to encourage more fans and reward those who are loyal, so I agree that the QoS fans shouldn't have been put in there. The south stand is dying because it's the family stand. A club our size should have a family section, not a stand. It must be the only home ground in the country where the home goalie gets a hard time, and the away one never does because he gets an easy ride at both ends of the ground. The south stand has effectively put a gagging order on the home fans while the weans scream "he fell over". The love street end used to be a great place to sit, and stand before that.
On the free tickets. The schools got the word document to print as a voucher on the Wednesday, and the parent had to have it redeemed by Thursday at 2pm. While I agree with the initiative, it was either poorly thought out or deliberately designed to limit the numbers because that gives very little time to turn it around. The schools also had to print the vouchers, so that didn't come out the clubs budget either. So the whole thing is not exactly the way to attract more support.

I,m disappointed because if you sack your manager it means your team is not doing well.I,m at a loss to where we go from here as the fans choice appears to be John Hughes. He left Caley because his playing budget was cut and i dont think he would come to work with what we have.
The last three years have been the worse i have experienced as a Saints fan and the next appointment has to be the correct one.The players really have to look at themselves also as they are the only ones who can dictate whats happening on the park. Finally i plead to all Saints fans to come out and support their team starting with this Saturday against Dunfermline.Your support is required more than ever.

You're probably right there as far as the atmosphere being as good as anywhere else, and I agree the main problem is the product on the pitch.

As a St Mirren supporter for the last 36 years I don't think there has been a time where I have been less interested in my beloved team. I was a season ticket holder with my son for about 10 years but decided to give it up as it became a chore for us to go along to the games.
I went to about 6 games last year and not only was the atmosphere flat but the style of football was awful. Now don't get me wrong if it was down to entertaining style of football I would not be a St Mirren supporter as we have been some horrendous periods of football but I remember Danny Lennon's 2nd season in charge where we concentrated on possession football. I loved it and couldn't wait until the next game even though we certainly didn't win every game but we tried to play football. Now am seeing direct and long ball football because our manager does not think the players have the skill set to play football. Well forgive me if am speaking out of turn but surely professional footballers can play possession football if not they shouldn't be professional.
I thought maybe with the fans takeover and Gordon Scott coming on board it would bring the whole place alive and bring everyone together but it hasn't so far IMO. I know it's early days but there seems to be more division then ever going with comments on this forum.
I know of other fans that think this but for probably the first time ever I woke up on the match day and had no idea who we were playing. I am getting used to staying in and watching all the football on TV and watching the scores come in. Like am sure many supporters some that follow religiously and some like myself who have sporadically went to games recently out of guilt that I won't be a St Mirren fan if I don't go to a game want to feel enthusiastic about my team again.
I don't know if the board, management team or fans can help as I believe a whole generation of Saints fans could be lost and as for young St Mirren supporters coming through we will lose them to other social activities.
    Phew and breathe.
    Thoughts?

Following the 2010 League Cup final it was tough, bordering on embarrasing, to be a St Mirren fan. Following the 2013 League Cup final it was fantastic to be a St Mirren fan. For most of my forty years following St Mirren they have ploughed a furrow somewhere between those extreme highs and lows, with ups and downs along the way. However, whether up or down, I always sensed the management and players were trying, they seemed to care. For the vast majority of those forty years.
This current lot need to take a long hard look at themselves IMHO. In their defence, they are merely the latest in a line stretching back to just after March 17th 2013 of under-achieving St Mirren players, lead by managers who were severely lacking in the skillset required to organise and motivate what was a top flight professional football club - overseen by a want-away BoD who at times looked to have downed tools. It's no wonder St Mirren fans feel downbeat, as Div put it. Craig - Murray - Rae(?) have been / are currently looking like being an absolute triumvirate of unrelenting and unmitigated shite.
Let's hope we get back to being up and down, but while doing so, look like we're trying a leg, overseen by a manager who knows what the fcuk he's doing, and with an injection of enthusiasm generated down the line by GLS/SMiSA.
