    Didn’t read beyond the Xl.

Essentially your point is we should start 3 of our 11 who aren’t here yet, and 1 of our 11 should be a player who’s 1 appearance at senior level was a f**king disgrace (jones).

And Hodson? f**k me, my granny would have been better at right back than he was today.

    Yeah. Long way to go.

And to think Liam Smith is playing in the Championship. Even Stelios would have been a better option than our LB/RB.

So you are completely discounting what Liam Smith did last year and only basing your assumption of him not being good enough on signing for Ayr? Cool

Some perspective: Rangers transfer spend £10 million , StMirren £75 thousand. Onward and upward

Seems to be a bit of a pattern on this forum where the usual posters go off the subject & bore the rest of us to death.

On safe-standing, this was the Chairman 3 months ago:
"We have also started down the road of introducing some form of safe standing area in W7. We have had discussions with Celtic, safe seating suppliers, and held preliminary talks with both the SPFL and our local council. This will not be something that happens next season but it is something we are looking at very seriously and will continue to investigate."
Personally, all for it, and I think the McGinn money will probably accelerate the process. The matchday and fan experience is hugely important to the board.
Would be interesting to see the response though if SMISA members were consulted....

It's not for the few. The guys in W7 have improved the atmosphere at the stadium and consequently everyone's matchday experience. They've no doubt contributed to our success on the park too. Why not build on that as well as widen the matchday experience for our fans? Give people the opportunity to stand if they want?
Incidentally, Brian Caldwell and Shrewsbury opened their safe standing section at the weekend. Accommodates 555 fans and cost the club £65K to install; they have it up the back of a stand behind the goals.

For the sake of Scottish football I hope John moves down South and gives Celtic a bit of a wake-up call. They will happily spend millions on unheard of foreign players but refuse to pay decent money for very good home Scots then complain about a lack of competition. f**k you Celtic.

all the money that Celtic have got...£7m for Armstrong FFS. And they cant go out and pay half of that for McGinn who is , if not already certainly will be a better player than Armstrong....if he goes to Villa or anywhere else in England he will kick on and improve and Celtic will never be able to afford him in the future.
I still think the most likely outcome to all this is £3m + Allan to Hibs and McGinn to f**king skinflint miserable Celtic. But, FFS, of what a circus, oh what a show.

There’s clearly a section of the St Mirren fan base who are absolutely choking for Samson to fail.

It’s a really bizarre grudge some people have against him.

The fact that he was a big part of us winning our only major title in the last 30 years is seemingly irrelevant to them.

Saves a penalty and makes other crucial saves in a 2-1 win today? Still can’t give him credit. They actually seek to blame him for the penalty being given, despite the defender clearly being at fault.

    Strangely Salty.

Thankfully the majority of St Mirren fans appreciate the ginger ninja for what he is; A bonafide club legend who is the best goalkeeper this football club has seen in a generation.

I hope he retires here and gets the testimonial he deserves.

I doubt he would have done the same things. He had already kept Mackenzie and offered Reilly a new deal. He would have understood the importance of team harmony and kept the nucleus of last season's side, while adding to it. He wouldn't have told players that last season gave their all just to beat it.

Only if you feel that not renewing Craig Storrie and Pal Fjelde's contracts or Billy the Fish's constituted dismantling the squad - he kept on David Clarkson as he had a long term injury.

That's like saying we beat team A and team A beat team B, so we must be able to beat team B as well.
Harry Davis signed for us as Crewe captain with over 200 games for one club under his belt - he'd also not been playing English L2 at that point. This big guy from yesterday has habitually spent one season and been punted on to the next club whereas Davis was an asset his club wanted to hold onto until the falling out. There is a clear difference between the two.
I'm not saying we shouldn't consider league two players, I'm saying we shouldn't be considering quite obviously shite league two players. For example, Scott Cuthbert has made a decent career in League Two. I'd like Scott Cuthbert because teams at that level generally want to keep hold of him as he's quite good. If a guy is playing one season at a club and being released time and time again, he's generally not going to be performing well enough at league two level that none of these clubs want to keep him.

Norman, plenty of folks want Stubbs to do well and see out his contract on the basis he has 3 good seasons with us. We're allowed an opinion on the 3 games so far. There was no outcry about people posting their snap judgments after just 1 game against Killie to go on. 10 days ago people were beginning to believe that Stubbs had unearthed some gems and we might be on course to finish top 6.
I suspect in fairness to Stubbs that some of his signing policy has always hinged on landing some promising young players from big clubs near the end of the transfer window. He's probably not overly bothered about the league cup group stages or first few games of the league season.
At the moment all we can go on is who he has got deals completed for - and so far it is all punts on guys stepping up to first team full time football. We're used to gambling on those kind of transfers. What we are not used to is it being our one string to our bow when it comes to transfer policy. And saying we missed out on Stokes doesn't improve matters - he was expected to travel to La Manga and didn't turn up and we were apparently still trying to sign him despite the no-show for pre-season training.
If you want to argue the toss about fielding trialists (who usually don't end up getting signed anyway) in the friendly against Sunderland, why didn't he use the game to get more game time for Josh Heaton, Cody Cooke, Jeff King etc?

Agreed. I said as much yesterday.
The internet and the rise of the information age and agents putting data out there in the last two decades means that almost all the information you need on a player we should be in the market for is readily available to clubs of our size. The only trials given out to players by clubs like ours should be purely to prove fitness rather than to assess ability.
Trials are still relevant to clubs in League 2 and the likes who are regularly taking on Amateurs and Juniors who might not have any sort of profile in the game but at our level, one look at someone's history will in the vast majority of cases, be a pretty good indicator of whether they are going to be an asset or not.
The three guys from yesterday all looked pretty cut and dried to me once we found out names and took a look at their respective recent histories.
Do you ever wonder why trialists are now by and large a thing of the past at the top levels of football? Because clubs simply don't have to have them anymore.

Disappointed with Hippolyte's impending departure , didn't get a chance under  Ross either , until the league was won. Feeling uneasier by the day with the way Stubbs is running things , trying to remain positive , but we need another 4/5 players of proven ability  imo !

ScotstounSaint reacted to Ayrshire Saints in We're Absolutely Shafted Regarding Lewis's Fee.
There seems to be a misunderstanding that if Lewis had signed a contract extension we could simply have flogged him to the highest bidder for way more than we got. The player (and his agent) hold all the aces in current times. We can't sell a player to club x or y If said player only wants to play for club z. Lewis wanted to sign for Celtic and we wanted to have Lewis with us for the whole season hence we were able to strike a deal which suited both parties. More fool and club that pays millions for players like Windass and to a lesser extent Armstrong but we need to accept both where we are in the food chain and also that in thus day and age ultimately players and agents dictate where a player moves to (quite rightly in the players case and agents do have far too much influence in many cases). The days of players signing ball and chain contracts and being sold against their wishes as it made a club a wedge ended with the likes of Jim McLean and some folk still don't seem to have realised or accepted that. No one can be traded like a commodity in football anymore thankfully.

No, I haven't forgotten that. Not that I think Gullit was correct. I think he mistook boos as being race related.
Anyhow, whether he was right or wrong, I dont see the relevance.

Are some of our 4000 fans racist? Probably. Same for every club.

I'm not getting on King's case from the get go here by the way. I just thought it was odd folk seemed unhappy with his racism towards fellow footballers being mentioned.
