I think you are completely underestimating our fan base.

Late one in the back of the head from one of the player-coaches, when everyone else was looking the other way?

How thin is the squad? I always think a good test is to take out 6 important players and see if we could still field a competitive side.
So take out, Kello, McAusland, Goodwin, McLean, Teale and Thompson.
We could field:
Ridgers
Kelly
Williams
Plummer
Naismith
Hughes
Wylde
McGinn
Brown
Marwood
Caldwell
with Yaqub and Reilly spare.
To my mind that team is ok but lacks experience. We need a minimum of two additional players. Another central defender (to replace either Williams or Plummer) and another midfielder (to replace either Hughes or Brown).
Based on the trialist and the talk about the extra Man City loanee in the passed couple of weeks, it seems that the club feels exactly the same way.

AllyM got a reaction from BaldyOzBud in James Chambers
Very true. I think folk tend to forget, also, that young players mature. I have high hopes for at least a couple of our new additions from the U20s.
Imagine the seething and greetin on here if exactly 12 months ago the club announced that they were going to go with Kelly and Naismith as first choice full backs for the coming season.

Behave yersel.
Imagine 7 players out injured - Kello, Kelly, McAusland, Goodwin, McLean, McGinn and Thompson.
Then we'll still thrash them with:
Ridgers
Naismith
Williams
Plummer
Yaqub
Teale
Hughes
Brown
Wylde
Marwood
Reilly
Strength in depth, knickerwetters, strength in depth
Edited to add: although, to be completely fair, here, I've only ever seen Naismith, Teale, Wylde and Reilly play before.

Yeh, but who got the others? Not Thommo, maybe Reillo?
-
AllyM got a reaction from TC7 in Thommogod - Bad News
I'll put forward an alternative view.
He's not going to miss a huge amount of time, even if it is a bad tear. Lets say he misses the first four league games of the season, allowing some time for him to build up fitness levels again. That gives us a few games (including home games against Hamilton and Dundee) to see if Marwood, Caldwell and Reilly are going to work out or not. If they do, great. If they don't, then the transfer window is open for another 8 days even after the home game against Dundee.
Whilst it is never good to hear about injuries to any of our players, he was almost bound to get injured/suspended/lose form/need a break at some stage this season. There is no denying he is a key player for us, arguably THE key player, but surely its not a completely bad thing to find out early how we cope without him for a few games?

Ah, the Challenge Cup. Last time we lost a game in that competition was nearly 10 years ago (31st July 2004).
What a brilliant run we are on
