JG walked into a bit of a problem with McGinn as captain. His performances have been up and down, he’s been battling fitness and injury, and he’s not the standout player in the team in the way he was when he arrived back. At that time he was head and shoulders above the rest of the team and was the standout candidate for captaincy.
The way things are now, he can’t be considered a definite starter over the course of a season so I think JG is being quite sensible in trying to gently transition the captaincy while McGinn has a spell in the stands - rather than publicly stripping him off it and making it an event.
I may be wrong but I would think it will stay with Magennis.
It will be interesting to see to what extent McGinn comes back into Goodwin’s plans. He’s been a great servant and still has something to contribute as part of a squad for me.

We did well in preventing them from scoring in open play but I thought we defended too deep allowing them long periods of possession. In doing that it would be only a matter of time before they would score.  When we went one behind we did open up and made the game much more competitive and we could have scored given the limited chances we had.  I always feel the best method of defence is attack.

So far this is the worst prepared St Mirren side for a season i can remember. Ffs even Stubbs side played better. The irony of all this is that we a technical director whose remit is supposed to be making sure we are well prepared.
please dont give me all that pony about Gus or the club being unable to do any planning until we won the play off because thats pish. They should have had a list of targets identified that they knew they could meet their wage demands, and alter it if we went down. It would appear Gus etc are more interested in jollies to Spain rather than getting players in the door.
how the f**k does signing Lyness, Andreu and Djorkaeff whose had more clubs than Colin Montgomery constitute a "MoneyBall Strategy"..?
so far the work Gus has done is embarrassing, anyone with a phone could have done it, feck even Djorkaeff was flown over here to play in trials making it even easier to look at him.
with two weeks until we start at Easter Road we are relying on under 19's to make a team. Sack Gus now and put the money into players, not more blazers!
just a reminder East Kilbride are a FIFTH tier Lowland League side. Just think what Albion Rovers could do to us!

Ego can easily brush aside stark reality!
i am sure Goody is convinced he can improve us, but he needs all the tools at his disposal to do that, and i fear he's been given just a half set of clubs?
what will be worth watching, and will give a wry chuckle is when the chairman realises its not working on the cheap and flings money at players or a more experienced assistant like Nicholl. I fear this time though there wont be a great escape.

We have had £900k from McGinn, supposedly up to £400k for McAllister, £300k for Morgan and was it £200k and small fees for Jason Naismith and Ross Stewart, £200k compensation for Jack Ross and James Fowler in 3 years.. £2million in transfer fees... but we've also had over 80 players sign and leave and are on our 5th manager in the same timeframe.

We seem to annually write off the first 3/4 league games of the season as if they don't matter because the transfer window is still open. It's why we play catch up every year.  This years argument is "ach well we would take nothing from those fixtures even with a fully assembled squad" so it's OK to just take the beatings and start in effect with a handicap ?
This mentality is killing us !

Now that the dust has settled, and certain posters are trying to "re-imagine" how they slated the team (and some of em' have the cheek to accuse good 'ol LPM of being anti saints). My thoughts are, having let that overall team performance sink in that excepting Hladky (ironic as he could be Offldky) those players on the pitch did not look like they were worried for their place!
they went into that game knowing there was little to no chance of even being subbed, let alone dropped. And it showed in a half-hearted, lazy, last to the loose ball performance.
have some of them already fallen out with the new manager again??? Are we going to see another attempt at  pet-lipped "Player Power" sniping in the media that saw Stubbs sacked by a clueless board?
the bottom line for me is, like last season's team that came up from the championship, the players on the books currently are not good enough to compete in the premiership!
We showed a bit more resilience when Hodson, Anton, Hammill & Jackson joined, We only became competitive after January with the likes of Dreyer, Muzek, Popescu, Corbu and McAllister. Thats NINE players that would, if still here, been joined by Hladky and one other on the pitch yesterday!
Thats the size of the task facing Goody now. The board have f**ked up again royally, and the chairman seems to be blaming everyone but himself for not dealing with (when he himself said it should have been dealt with) Oran the day after the play off final, one way or another.... That's what you call leadership..!
credit to the pars, they had TEN new players in, realising their old guard had their day and released them in May. Even with a Technical Director who were told was employed to ensure the very piss poor situation we are in being unable to field a competitive team wouldnt happen.... we are absolutely shot to f**k for fielding a competitive team. Remember NINE of yesterday's team wouldnt have got a game last season.
I have laughed out loud in sheer frustration each time the "S" (stability) word has been used since May regarding SMFC. If anyone tuned into BT sport yesterday it was obvious that its become a running joke with pundits and the Scottish football scene when they talk of SMFC. This board and Chairman are on their FIFTH manager in less than three years ffs! They have shown themselves to be incapable of establishing the framework at the club to build stability upon!
I actually don't blame the players, I blame their employer for either signing someone obviously not fit for purpose, or completely avoiding dealing with employees that are not performing to the level required. Then using all that as an excuse to sign cheap again.... thus repeating the same mistake over and over again.
As a performance specialist in business and recruitment I had a good laugh when the "MoneyBall" approach to recruiting was brought up. I mean on the face of it it is sound business sense, at least the way its meant to be interpreted that being....
you only recruit players whose value will increase benefitting club performance and success as well as adding value via a sell on at profit opportunity. Thing is though, you have to deal with your current under performing players first, or you risk losing more than you gain as they arent adding value, in fact they detract value from your moneyball recruits. ( Haldky is a good example yesterday, had a good game, but his stats put him losing three goals in his first competitive game of the season).
The board either need to go, or hand over responsibility of what players and manager join or stay at the club to someone/s who will do the full job, and take full responsibility for doing it! We need someone to manage performance across the board, and if someone isnt adding value they go! Not into the reserves wasting time, space as well as money! They go out the door, we stop moving problems from one area to another!
anyone think the shower in the boardroom are capable of the above?

He’s produced hee haw cos they’ve played him out wide and not as the main striker, where he played when he made his name.

They’re trying to shift him cos they have Cosgrove as their main striker now.

He’s still young. Played as a main striker, I reckon May would score goals again.

This could be a sensational signing or a Stephane Bahoken level one - depending on which Stevie May turns up.
He has been utterly horrendous for Aberdeen and i wouldn't touch him but if Jim could get the St.Johnstone version of him from somewhere then we've got some striker on our hands.

From his goals scored and assists stats at Aberdeen it does not read very good at all - it doesn't really matter if he ran about lots or looked classy - he was there to score and create goals.... And given that Aberdeen have signed other strikers and are offloading him it does not bode well on paper at least. (But Aberdeen have taken Main from Well and he never had a great goal scoring season last time either)
Our past record at taking goal scorers like Dargo and Wyness has not been great. The one thing in May's favour is that he is still only 26 years old - he MAY just be about to hit his peak - but, it could go either way - as could the Andreu signing too...  (2 goal scorers who turn out good yins from 2 would be brilliant though)

Not harsh at all. He's not been very good at Aberdeen and despite all his 'graft' he's produced hee haw. Hence why Aberdeen are trying to shift him.
I'm not really interested in strikers that 'graft' all over the place, we've had plenty of them in past who weren't very good. I'm interested in strikers that score goals and Stevie May isn't one of them anymore.

SMISA' primary responsibility is to the 1300 or so who have bought into and are paying into BTB.
What potential legal guidance are you talking about?
As the 2nd largest shareholder (AFAIK) & future owners of St Mirren FC, it isn't unreasonable for SMISA to seek clarity on behalf of their members of what is going on with the manager & the managers position.
The relationship would only be soured if GLS really is as difficult to deal with as we keep hearing and he takes exception at being asked a difficult question.. If, that is all a myth then no damage will be done to the relationship between SMISA & GLS. It certainly won't be soured.

In truth I wouldn’t relocate my family for a football manager’s job. Very few in the game seem to stay at a club for over three years (ours don’t even make two years these days), and most clubs are chasing ambitions they can’t match, or get tired of the same old and feel change is needed when progress stifles. I’d prefer to travel and video call them instead of changing my kids schools every three years, unsettling them and impacting their childhood so heavily.

To read anything into that statement you would have to apply your own opinion,  It could be as sterile or as bitter as you want it to be.
My own opinion was that when OK arrived the best we could have hoped for was survival and maybe a cup run, we got one of those.  In my opinion it was a pretty unpalatable version of survival as we were dire in most games and had a level of good fortune that you don't normally associate with saints.
So OK has come out alright on this, he got to test his ability on a bigger stage and was found to be wanting this time around, he got a good idea of how his family dynamic would fare when faced with leaving home in pursuit of fame and fortune, he can get his old job back in school and might well get his football job back.  In addition, he doubtless walks away with a few extra shillings in his pocket (confidentiality clauses don't get signed for free, before the "how can you prove that" mob leap on me)
And Saints stayed up, live to fight another day with GLS getting rid of a manager he seemed not to rate (why did he sign him, then)but having surely blown a sizeable windfall that could have seen us in good shape last season.  I hope that the chairman has learned something from all of this, if he has, then maybe better days lie ahead.
