1926 Scottish Cup Final

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon.

My name is Andrew Birchenough and i am the great grandson of Matthew Morgan who played for you from 1925 when he signed from Renfrew Juniors playing for your club a total of 128 and scoring 15 goals which wasn't bad for an outside left.
The reason for me getting in touch is to see if you could possibly be able to help me get a replica medal of the one that he won all them years ago in the 1926 Scottish Cup Final versus Celtic.
I have the rest of his medals from his playing days and i'm trying to get hold of this medal as well other items of memorabilia from when he played football.
If you could help me then this would be great and for me and my family to have this in our collection then that would be brilliant.
If you can get back to me when you can then that would be great as its coming up to my Grandma (Matthew's Mum) 90th birthday in a couple of weeks and her eyes will sparkle yet again seeing this.
Thank you for taking the time in reading the above and if anyone can help me then i would be really grateful.

Hi Andrew,

This is an unofficial supporters forum, although someone may be able to help. However, you should contact the club via the official website; www.saintmirren.net

I believe your great grandfather was in the team the last time we won a home match, so hopefully someone can help you out!

That's good enough for me. Free agent, decent defender, get your boots on and report to Ralston tomorrow morning. Ask for a director called Bryan McAusland, he'll let Gary Teale know that you're replacing Goodwin, Tesselar, Naismith or Kelly in his next starting XI.

Welcome to St Mirren. Six month loan deal OK for you?

Is your great grandad in this photo? It's from a match day programme from 1984.

Hi there.

Sadly no he is not on this picture that you have put up from a match day programme. He was a truly gifted outside left and i havent heard anything back from the Club or the SFA as of yet after emailing them.

Thank you for posting that picture.

Don't worry about it. We never hear anything from the club either... Unless it's ST renewal begging letter time.

The Scotsman - Wednesday, 11th March 1925, page 14

ST MIRREN AND CELTIC STILL LEVEL.

The second meeting between Celtic and St Mirren in the replayed Cup tie at Parkhead served to show how evenly matched they are, and even alter an extra half-hour neither side could claim the advantage, Celtic started well, and following a corner kick M'Lean forced Bradford over the line to open the scoring in two minutes. For a little after this Celtic were on top, but they failed to keep it up, and St Mirren, improving, raised the hopes of their supporters, and for twenty minutes before the interval they fairly tested the Celtic defence. D. Thomson St Johnstone, who took M'Crae's place at centre, led the line well, but he failed on one occasion to make the most of an opening made by J. Thomson. .On resuming St Mirren took the game in hand, and great work by Morgan and Gillies should have brought the equaliser. The Celtic goal ran several narrow escapes, but at the end of twenty-two minutes D. Thomson headed into the net following a corner kick. From this point onwards St Mirren went out for the winning goal, but fine defensive work, by M’Stay, Hilley, and Shevlin saved the Celtic. In the extra time both sides had chances to win, but Bradford and Shevlin both had brilliant saves. The attendance estimated at 36,000

Found this on a site named the celticwiki, and for the match in 1926 - type 1926 Pics in the search function and click on the highlighted 1926pics tab, further click on the listings on the left for the saints match shows some newspaper clippings posted on there including team photo, although it's not a clear pic, as you can see below.
