I guess the concern is that if he goes to Celtic they will get him on the cheap, and because of that it would be a much better bet if a lower EPL or Championship club came in with a bit - which would likely be in the £2m bracket. The hope for us is that because he is at Hibs, who are a financial middleweight as opposed to a lightweight like most of the rest of Scottish football, they will have to up the anti a bit. I see Hibs holding out for £1m at the least and - maybe - the hoped for £2m COYH(ibs transfer negotiation team). irvine_buddie
Does anyone know what % sell on fee we get? Heard various figures from 10%-33% banded about.

Froggie
Firstly it should be noted that EPL clubs only pay big transfer fees for either foreigners or vastly overpriced and overrated Englishmen. Secondly, and more to the point, John McGinn is not a top drawer player. For all the qualities he has, speed is not one of them and neither is his ability to avoid recklessness because of this. I very much doubt whether Celtic would be interested, as they appear to have an eye on European progression, or at least trying to live down their defeats from Imps and Barcelona. Nonsense sorry to say. Hibs best player while getting man of the match on his senior debut. Edit Scotland debut should have wrote. Scott Brown or Paul Scholes are two midfielders that weren't blessed with pace . It's not exactly held either of their careers back . They may pay big money for Scots who have already played in England but not anymore for players in our league. Anyway McGinn is nothing to do with Saints and good luck to him if he moves to a bigger team than Hibs.

He's not Scottish... and he had played in the UCL.In all seriousness the days of English club paying big money for Scottish players from the top league is finished. Never mind paying big money for those from the Scottish Championship...

TopCat
If their good enough they will pay , money from TV is insane down there. Yeah but they don't think they are good enough up here. The best players in Scotland go to the Championship/League 1 in England now. There's numerous examples of this over the last few years. The only club who the EPL will buy first team players direct from is Celtic, and that's only after the Celtic players have proven themselves to be UCL quality, and even then it's the likes of Swansea who pick them off. Our league has really fallen in quality over the last decade or so and the market for our players reflects that.
