He was there watching it, though, and on the Town Hall balcony.

Attended the council town hall reception as a guest of a Councillor and sneaked out to see the crowd on the Abbey grounds when the team presented the cup. We were standing to the side to the right of the team from their point of view. One of the best moments of my life!!! antrin
Traditionally, when Saints win a cup, I just stay in whatever pub I’ve ended up in. I’ve already paid to see them I don’t want sloppy seconds.
Wilbur
Dreadful that Peter Godfrey couldn't get a place in the cup final squad having played so many times that season.
Cookie Monster
Dreadful that Peter Godfrey couldn't get a place in the cup final squad having played so many times that season. Not dreadful at the most unfortunate. We have no idea what the result would have been if Basil had been in the squad of 13.The good or excellent thing is, that us as buds know and recognize his contribution in getting us there and for all the seasons he played for us. HE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE KEPT RETURNING TO TACKLES, AGAIN AND AGAIN, AD INFINITUM, EVEN THOUGH THE GAME HAD MOVED ON... ER..... HAUD OAN... THAT’S AN ‘S’ NOT A ‘Z’. SORRY. 🤪 The good or excellent thing is, that us as buds know and recognize his contribution in getting us there and for all the seasons he played for us. VERY TRUE, CAN’T ARGUE WITH THAT! Unlucky that he got an injury and lost his place, same with Paul Chalmers. Only 13 players in the squad in those days so them was the breaks. He was unlucky but that was down to Winnie playing so well in the semi final But our run up to the final was poor in the league a run of defeats Smith was sticking to the semi final team no matter what Turned out the right decision a clean sheet for the defence

Farmer Johnny Rocks
Hearts didn't try hard enough the previous Saturday when they only beat Clydebank 1-0...or a few months previously when we beat them 6-2 at Love St. Celtic would have beatn Hearts or Rangers or any other Scottish team 5-0 that day. Slarti
This is really funny (from Wiki). "Had goal difference been the rule in 1965 Hearts would have been champions; had goal average still applied in 1986, they would have won the league. Hearts lobbying after the league loss in 1965 cost them the title in 1986."

I know Gary Peebles became a central midfielder when he went to Northern Ireland, but I thought all his appearances for us were at right back?
