Firstly, I would hope we could find and fund a way of replacing the train station name from St James to St Mirren.

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought I read a wee while back that former high heid yin at ScotRail Alex White who is now on the St Mirren club board was trying to push something forward.

Yeah. I remember when we first moved the fans (including myself) tried campaigning for such a change and it was certainly cost prohibitive.

They would have to change every train map,it’s never going to happen ☹️

And the Stadium name to

LOVE STREET

I've thought that for years. I was told it'd cost £150k.

I found this old article on the proposed name change of the railway station, and it mentions this website and quotes Div:

Railway station named after St Mirren fans

ST MIRREN supporters have launched a campaign to have a Paisley railway station renamed in the club’s honour.

ST MIRREN supporters have launched a campaign to have a Paisley railway station renamed in the club’s honour.

The football crazy fans reckon Paisley St James station – which is right on the doorstep of the Buddies’ new stadium in Greenhill Road – should be called Paisley St Mirren station instead.

And their only ‘loco-motive’ is to raise the club’s profile.

Dave MacDonald, webmaster of the Black & White Army internet site for Saints fans, is leading the way and hopes to convince the powers-that-be the campaign is on the right tracks.

He told the Paisley Daily Express: "Paisley St James is right on the doorstep of our new ground and we feel the station would be better served being called Paisley St Mirren.

"At the moment, the station isn’t overly used but, when the new ground opens in January, I’m sure it will become one of the busiest around.

"We reckon changing the name would make sense and benefit everyone concerned. It’s most definitely a win-win situation.

"Our campaign is gathering pace and we’re using the website to beat the drum."

Saints are due to play their first game at the new Greenhill Road stadium against Kilmarnock on Saturday, January 31, and fans hope the station will have been renamed by then.

Dave said: "There are already a number of fans behind the move and the list is growing.

"When we get the bit between the teeth, we like to see things through.

"Wouldn’t it be great if we were to travel to the opening of the new stadium by train and alight at Paisley St Mirren station? How good would that be?"

Last night, bosses at St Mirren gave their backing to the fans’ campaign – which is also being supported by Love Street legend Billy Abercromby.

General manager Brian Caldwell said: "We wish them best of luck as the station is opposite the new stadium and anything which promotes the name of St Mirren is good for the club."
