St. Johnstone also have the benefit of McDairmid Park generating a lot of cash from conferences & functions.
For Livi it's as much about stability of style as squad - we played expansive football last season and couldn't have gone toe2toe with the bigger teams (in both senses) in this division & JR realized this. The summer's combination of events have left us unprepared in terms of players and I still think the style for a Bottom 6 campaign which is all this season could have ever been realistically. We need to copy Hamilton/Livi & try to shitfest our way to survival this season.
C'mon Oran its still not too late!

I know , if these do-gooders only knew the half of what went on before cctv . I actually feel sorry for the young ones today who can't get away with it . There are several fine upstanding Saints fans who  did worse than throw coins in a previous life and are here to tell the story with an unblemished character !

    Agree with this.

The squad that won last seasons Championship in its entirety wasn’t good enough for the top flight. We seen that in the two hammering’s we got from Aberdeen and Thistle. Had no one left and no one joined I think we would have finished 11th or 12th this season.

The fact is that squad not only didn’t get stronger, it got weaker.

We lost our two best players from last season in Morgan and Davies. Players like that are nigh on impossible to replace for a team like us. Morgan is a million pound player. He’s a match winner who several times last season won us games by himself. I read some people say on here Stubbs told the squad that Lewis won us the league last season and that was met by indignation and offence by the senior players. I don’t know if he did say that, but if he did he certainly wasn’t far off the mark.

We don’t have any forward player with even a fraction of the ability he has in our squad just now. The Longwell conveyor belt of creative goal scoring players like McLean, Mallan and Morgan have all moved on to bigger things and we are left with the likes of S McGinn and Cammy Smith. These guys just aren’t anywhere near as good as what we have had previously.

Davies was a Rolls Royce of a centre half when fit. He would have been fine in the Premiership. To replace him we got Kpekwa and Heaton.

Basically we lost our best attacking player and best defensive player. The replacements aren’t anywhere near as good. Therefore we are struggling to score goals and struggling to keep them out. In short, it’s going to be a long season.

Not my proposal to do the banner I proposed a silent protest with everyone with there mouths shut.
But yes we did decide as a group to do this banner and then after the club said not to do it we decided as a group to display it together.
    Not me the group.

Were not out to get the support from other supporters.

We want to support the team without being treated as criminals when you’ve done nothing wrong.
is that such a hard thing to do?

Ah but it goes to the heart of censorship. It's a fitba stadium not a Bible study group. It's not all about the management. These young guys and girls are expressing opinions in a modern way. The Club has to be careful here or potentially lose a generation and be left with us old codgers.

I disagree that it clears things up or that we can all sign up to it. I'll not defend the banner in light of the club explicitly refusing permission, however what prompted the banner was the club being complicit in providing details of supporters to police which infuriated many.
For Gordon to talk about return to positive atmosphere at the ground then go on a extremely negative rant for around two thirds of his update about banners doesn't quite match up. Gordon said "This atmosphere of positivity was however soured by the production of a banner in W7 which greatly disappointed me". The banner was displayed during the game, and the majority knew nothing about it until either halftime via twitter or post game, so it didn't affect any positive atmosphere at all. In fact it was the actions of stewards at the behest of the directors that could've soured things further.
Appreciate the need to be in compliance with Police and other regulatory bodies, however it is the compliant nature of the board without looking after fans interests that's not comfortable for me. I do understand that there could be cost of policing to be factored into their responses to Police, but seems like they have forgotten that fans are the lifeblood of the club and seems easier to piss them off.
Oh and for what it's worth I sit in W2 and have no personal involvement with W7, but targeting an area that have been largely responsible for the increase in noise, positivity and encouragement to the players seems counterproductive.

    Disgarceful behaviour by jobsworth stewards.

The club owe a grovelling apology to the fans for this embarassing amatuerish display of utter nonsense.

Some clarity should be offered on

    1)  What power were the stewards relying on when seizing the private property of someone else?
    2) If such a power relies on "offence" then what exacly is offensive about this banner?
    3) Identify the individual who made this moronic decison

    Furthermore
If the lads in w7 were to make some t-shirts stating "fans not criminals" please let me know as I would happily buy one and wear it at the ground.  If a jumped up stward wishes to rip my t-shirt from me he/she will have a walking stick firmly lodged in the rectum.

In conclusion, this is a crock of excrement.  We do not need such small minded idiots in the employ of our great club.

    A couple of points .

My 10 year old nephew turned up with a big flag that wasn’t pre-approved .
There was nothing offensive, derogatory, bigoted, sectarian or provocative on the banner displayed by the W7 lads.why was it removed ?
There was a massive Bhoys banner in the away end , why was that not removed ? Are we to believe it was presented to the Club and the authorities pre match for fire testing and approval ?
Drums at both away ends , now I don’t know the answer to this, perhaps someone from W7 May care to answer. when our drum started the guys had to bring it into the stadium the day before the game for check and storage. Is this still the case ? And if so did the Celtic supports adhere to the rule ?

Since the Inception of the W7 initiative, it just seems they have had to jump through an awful lot of hoops and fall under some pretty strict , some may say petty rules.
(Some ) Away fans do not appear to be governed by the same rules .

Only read the opening thread. If a fan was stuck and I'm not using the season ticket why not ? Have sent it out by post a few good times over the years and it's always been sent back. Same with a lift in the car if I'm going and a fan is stuck for a lift why not ? Saints fans are family we are a family club.

Exactly as was predicted when Gus was being mentioned as a possible replacement manager, divides the support, and would have been a dangerous gamble.
IF he's brought in as some sort of adviser I see it being a waste of money and the level of criticism/abuse he's receiving here will only increase, and aimed towards the club.
Overall I'd bin the idea, not worth the hassle IMO.
I fully recognise what he achieved, best to leave it at that.

Quick question. From what we know, does Oran Kearney strike anyone as being a fool? An idiot? Second question. Does he come across as the kind of guy who, when his nose might have been put out of joint at missing out to Stubbs first time around, is likely to up sticks with family in tow, but now having got a full time crack at management, will sheepishly allow Gus MacPherson / Jimmy Nichol / A.N. Other to be the organ grinder while he is merely the dancing monkey?
Some of the shite posted on here. Honestly. I should know too, I don’t half post some shite myself, but come to grips.

Clearly, the only solution is to get rid of Stubbs, Jackson and Rice for their mistakes. Get rid of GLS, the BoD, and any club official for their mistakes. Get rid of any players from the Jack Ross era who may or may not have been under performing and are making mistakes. Get rid of any players Stubbs signed who are perceived as ‘sub standard’ for the Scottish top flight and their mistakes. Get a brand new chairman, board, management team, and in January, once the squad is entirely, and I mean entirely, filled with new players of their choosing.... then we can all move on.
Then, if it’s still shit, get rid of them all and start again.... and repeat. I don’t think it’s going out on a limb to suggest that of those interviewed, Stubbs did the best job of convincing the BoD he was the man. You often hear stories of actors going for jobs and when they are asked ‘can you ride a horse’ or whatever, they say ‘oh yeah, expert, horses? easy...’ having never been on one, but they need to get the job and they need to impress. Pretty sure Stubbs would have impressed with talk of contacts, quality loanees, and his Rotherham experience hardening him for the challenge, learned from his mistakes, fired up for the task, ready to pick up the torch from Jack, refreshed after a break from football, yadda, yadda.
To some extent then, I feel Stubbs told them he was an expert horseman, oh aye, no trouble. I actually feel very sorry for GLS and Fitzy, who clearly, absolutely, must have been convinced Stubbs was the best candidate from those who applied, to take us on into the top flight. We are all sitting wondering how quickly feelgood factor can be blown out of the water, just think how those two men feel. They gave him the keys and he pretty much trashed their car for them.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but mine is that GLS and Fitzy have been burned and must be hurting, even more than us. Time to back them, and hope the next big decision they take works out.

I hope those players who took the huff at Stubbs act more professionally with the next manager. They have gone way down in my opinion and appear to think they are a lot better than  they actually are.  They have a lot to prove.

The only thing I can muster in Stubbs' defence is that he clearly had targets in mind that have not panned out for whatever reason. Now, they might have been shit - Stokes* - but he was clearly under the impression that more quality was on its way in, and it didn't happen.
Where the blame lies - scouting, our wage structure, Stubbs' own inability to sell the club to targets - I don't know, but we've clearly had interest in a lot of decent players that haven't arrived. What is unforgivable, though, is a failure to push things through and/or move on quickly when those targets didn't pan out.

If the stories coming out are true, then I suspect the BoD has known it's made a mistake from a very early stage. It gave him the bare minimum time to see if there was some sort of method in his madness. When it transpired there really wasn't - and that the players hated him - he got the bullet.

    * I bet most of us would love to see Stokes up front for us now, though.

the things we lacked, most obvious first
    Pace
    Fitness
    alertness
    intensity
desire to cover up as we lost the ball and immediately after.  We are short of team spirit.
EVERY player was short of all these things, except Mullen and Flynn when they came on.  Alan Stubbs strikes me as someone who is bracing himself for yet another crash, he seems to lack any intensity or authority-you need at least one of these to be a decent manager before you even consider  technical knowledge.  I don't think a single player has any fear of him or has been inspired to stretch themselves for their gaffer.
There is hope for a few players, Coulson could do with a few months of extra gym and sprint sessions and he might promise something after that.  A more composed Willock could impose himself on a game and Hodson will be an asset once he is match fit.  Jones needs to clear his head and stop looking so shell shocked, I have a feeling he might be something once he can deal with the pace of first team football and there is a leader in there.  At the very least he seemed to be trying to find a way to fight his way into things even if he never quite got there.   Of last year's successes, Smith, and S McGinn could do a turn if they can rediscover their mojo and also improve in all the areas listed.  None of this will happen under the current management team and they need to go, but we would still be 6 players short of a competitive team.  The current crop and management team would be bottom half in this year's championship.
I'd bite the bullet and pay up Jackson and Stubbs now if I were in charge.  I'd maybe give Rice  time to try and steady the ship with McManus at his side and use the rest of the season to develop a CREDIBLE  on field strategy for a quick return from the championship and a competitive return to the top flight in 2020 under an accomplished manager,  'cause that is where we are headed.  I can't see us getting more than 2 further points in the remainder of the first quarter and you don't get back in the race from that position.

I don't fully blame Stubbs though, we could only have attracted a better manager if we had not signalled way in advance that we would have the lowest player budget in the league and you can't blame the guy for trying.
