Although it is early days it looks like Stubbs philosophy of bringing in players from the lower English leagues has backfired on us somewhat. Cole and Heaton don’t appear to be the answer to our defensive woes and Cooke and King aren’t getting game time either. Positive is that Alfie Jones appeared to bring some semblance of order when he came on but Aberdeen had the cigars out by that point. Think most fans get the fact that we are not going to beat likes of Aberdeen in our first season back but we should be able to put up a better effort than yesterday or indeed what we witnessed against Rangers. Let’s be honest here yesterday could have been 6 or 7 quite easily and for me we also got off lightly against Sevco as had they kept 11 men on the park that looked like another doing was on the cards.
Realise that Stubbs is still trying to establish his best 11 but as it stands right now we are a far weaker side than the one that finished last season in the championship. We need to spend some of that Mcginn money wisely to get us up to speed and to a level that allows us to at least compete.

I remember we got gubbed 7-0 at Celtic Park then beat them the next week in Paisley.

Hidings at grounds of teams like the Old Firm and Aberdeen are nothing new. Been happening for as long as I remember. We got gubbed at Pittodrie last season too.

It’s just part of supporting a team like us.

I find this all very baffling bringing umpteen players up from down south giving them next to zero game time then sending them back down.  I know it just kellerman at present but the others have not got a sniff either ! Some players are not great trainers but do well in games and vice versa think at least they should have got a run out in a league game . If stubbs has signed them then changed his mind about them in a couple of weeks its very worrying.

Exactly my thoughts. If we are expecting to be fighting to avoid the relegation play offs or automatic relegation this season I'm not sure it's wise to have half the starting XI as loan signings - it was a point made near the end of Danny Lennon's tenure about how motivated are loanees to beat the drop if they go back to their parent club at the end of the season anyway. We've had some cracking loanees in the last decade or so: Charlie Adam, Graham Carey, Scott Cuthbert, Paul McGowan, Paul Dummett, Connor Newton, Isma Goncalves, Cammy Smith, Lewis Morgan, so I'm not against us using the loan market but I think we need to be careful about the balance of our team and our own homegrown youth academy players, new signings, existing squad members, loanees, senior pros with a bit of experience.

I can understand why people don't want to go to ibrox and parkhead but don't understand why some of us don't want to support our team at home I know all the vile shite that comes with these two but this is our home we will outnumber them. In saying that i would just give them the north and try and get as many buds to attend if any of the mutants do infiltrate the home ends just get them pointed out to the stewards/police so they get papped out.

The seating issue is an argument which has pro's and Cons.  I won't get into that BUT
Some of the language and attitudes towards fellow football fans however is pretty disgraceful. No wonder football fans get treated like second class citizens. Anyone who wasn't actually at the game and reads this forum would think the Saints fans had been subjected to continuous missile bombardment from all sections of the Rangers Support and had to fight for their lives to get into and out of the ground without being maimed, murdered, and stabbed by hordes of Rampaging, Rioting  Rangers Fans.
As someone who was at the game. My observations were as follows.
Yes, In traditional football fan, logic. One or two A-holes on both sides thought the netting on the seats between them provided some sort of force field that made them invincible. As at every ground I have ever visited a few on both sides couldn't stop themselves indulging in some animated banter and it seemed like a couple of people had issues with individuals on the other side of the netting. This was reciprocated both ways. Most of the Rangers Fans in the ground simply supported their team and in the main they did it well. Sure there was the odd reference to outdated traditions but FFS it was Ibrox and that's what they do. It's not right. It's not big or clever but in the main if you didn't bother them they didn't bother you but those boys and girls created at atmosphere.
Missiles- I saw a young apprentice - Rangers fan throw an apple. I'm not doubting the odd plastic bottle may have been launched but to be honest the only reason I saw the apple was because I was engrossed by the exchange between the young Saints fans and the young Rangers fans who felt safe enough behind their netted barriers to shout the sort of abuse at each other which would merit a smack in the mouth if it happened in the real world. There are fans in every team like this and to Brandish all Rangers and Celtic fans as animals is an insult to all football fans.
On the way to Ibrox, I met lots of decent Rangers fans who gave me tips and advice on how to get there. They were happy to talk football and  nothing but helpful. Wearing St Mirren Tops four of us went for a drink in the Louden. Not sure if it's normal for away fans to step in to the bears den but everyone inside was courteous and we had a bit of banter the way we would in any  bar near an away ground. The strangest part was despite it being packed to the rafters it was one of the quickest pubs to get served  in.
In and around the stadium it was busy but no one made an issue because we were away fans. No intimidation, no animosity just fellow football fans going to support their team.
After the game.No problems. Walked back to the town centre. No one gave a toss about our St Mirren Tops and everyone was friendly.
We ended up drinking with Rangers Fans in the city Centre before dumping them for a couple of birds from a German Rock Group( No Kidding)
All in all a good day out. Shame about the result.
Read this morning Saints fans had been bottled, subjected to missile attacks and Rangers Fans had to be hunted down, banned from football and exterminated.
99.999% of football fans are good guys. No matter what team they support The 0.001% who are A-Holes are Just A-holes. No matter what team they support.
    Get things into perspective. Please......

Us not going to their home games would make very little difference to them. They’ve already cut our allowance
Us not going to our own home games would hurt us and the SP as a whole before it would hurt them.

164 mile round trip and I have a season ticket. I go just about every week.
I'm fortunate at present that I have both the time and the resources to go to the games. There are many things you can focus your life around and for the last 40 years I focused my life around family and work. I grew up with the Saints and was a die hard from 1974 till 1987.  Thereafter I moved away from Paisley to focus on other things and  I rarely attended a game until SMISA put out the call.
And do you know what........... I found I had missed it big time.
I'll make a wild guess, "the what a waste" was said with tongue in cheek
There are worse things to focus on than football. The game can be Crap, the team can be mince, you can get pumped 10-0 but you can't take away the day out. You can't take away the experience. Ok, I like a sherbet or two and a wee sing song. I like camaraderie, being part of something and meeting people. Football is the perfect way to unwind.
I'm ready to head for Glasgow, meet my buds and get a few down my neck before  travelling to Castle Grey Skull to join the adventure. Win, lose or even get pumped I'll be singing my heart out and enjoying the day. Chances are it'll be just like the legendary 600 who sang their way into the valley of death when we got pumped at Pittodrie last season but you know what I fancy our chances today.
I'll come home tonight and focus on mundane stuff like the back fence needs restored, the wife wants a holiday, the waynes want everything and every one of them is sitting on a computer, ipad or phone or watching a box set and I'll think , 'What a waste......' Thank feck I've got Aberdeen to go next week end and don't have to focus on the mundane stuff everyone else does.
I plan to live out my last 20 odd years the same way as I did my first 20 odd years
"I'll go where ever St Mirren go"
I'll see any of you like minded Buds at Castle Grey Skull

The sell on fee percentage being a perennial reward for future sales is a great reward as long as the the player is bought rather than moving on out of contract. It means we as fans have more of a vested interest in former players doing well and is vindication of our investment in the youth policy adopted by the club. Hopefully that is the case...

I think he’ll go from strength to strength down south. If he does well with Villa you could easily see a £10million+ move in a year or two, specifically because of the cash in English football and because he has that potential.

Celtic have lost out big time as he seemed the natural successor to Brown.

In summary, great player, lots of potential, great move for him, Saints and Hibs and hopefully the gift that keeps on giving...well done Gilmour and co for your negotiation skills and to all those instrumental in his development in the youth teams at Saints as well as the managers who played him regularly and gave him time to develop.

Really liked the big fellah, strong, tall and yet skilful.  Well seen he has not been around Scottish football as a youth as we would surely have turned him into a centre half by now!  Anyway really liked the big fellah, really liked him indeed!

I can't describe how much I've felt the atmosphere improve inside the stadium over the last two years, thanks to Josh and the rest of the boys in W7 - week in, week out they're arranging displays, setting up drums/equipment, giving out positive messages about the club on social media - not to mention singing their lungs out on a Saturday, win, lose or draw.
Jack Ross referred to it a lot last season about how well the players respond and I have watched it genuinely having a positive effect on player performance and results.
I know some of the boys take a bit of a battering sometimes but I raise a glass to them for helping turn our club around. Fantastic once again today.
An absolute credit to the club

I thought we started brightly but their goal knocked the stuffing out of us a bit and it took us 10-15 mins to work our way back into it and finished the 1st half well.

Not sure how we didn’t go behind at the start of the second as they looked like they’d score every time they came up the park with young Coulson being culpable on at least two occasions.

However, football isn’t about possession and creating chances. You need to take them. They didn’t and we did. On another week we may have lost that game but the guys battled away and got a foothold in the game to play the better football in the last 20 mins with Coulson, in particular, outstanding.

That is a very important 3 points and if we get the right quality in over the next few weeks it may well give us the platform we need to establish ourselves in the top league.

Well done to Stubbs and his team in particular. They were all active on the sideline, barking encouragement and instructions to the team and they responded.

ETA the crowd were magnificent as well. That actually felt better than the big games at the end of last season.

A massive improvement overall but still outstanding issues. Kpekawa needs to improve very quickly , as I said on previous thread , not fit enough and not fast enough ( one linked to the other ) would love to see Coulson attack a bit more on the flank, too often passed back inside and despite the win and Danny’s two goals we still need a striker (s)
Teams like Dundee are who we need to be taking points from , job done today . Onward & upward [emoji106]

Great 3 points. Effort from the whole team was excellent. Certainly rode our luck, especially second half, but excellent penalty save and comedy winner.

Great pressing from Flynn and cut back was well finished.

Certainly need to strengthen the squad as I think a better team would have punished some of our mistakes.

Great atmosphere and the pre kick off display was excellent. We'll done all who organised it.

Familiar problems at the turnstiles. One of my daughter's got in and one couldn't get in so we were stuck. Stewards eventually sorted it. Poor computer system.

Still, great result and feel good factor still intact.

Really enjoyable game and great result. A lot of positives to take cammy and Danny were excellent as was willock in midfield but not getting carried away still a lot of work to be done. We definitely have the nucleus of a very decent side but we need a quick centre half and a big striker although I thought big Ross Stewart had a decent game game has good touch and holds it up well think he just lacks a bit of pace. The defence is definitely a worry though very hesitant at times.

“Ross nearly relegated us”, “Ross left Stubbzo a mess of a squad”, blah, blah, blah.

You never really liked Jack did you? Any opportunity you got during his tenure you put the boot in but unfortunately for you things went so well you really became a bit of a lone wolf in that regard.

Undeterred though you waited for another chance and Jack’s departure has left the door ajar a little and here you come with this pish again.

Jack Ross is a legend who transformed a team and the bond with the fans over a season and a half that was as good as I can remember following Saints. It was a great ride while it lasted and it’s done now so why you feel he need to have the digs I can’t understand?

If you like “Stubbzo” that’s great. Get behind him and leave the past where it belongs. Everyone else will remember it fondly and you can try your best to get over it.

    Should be #teamstmirren

If their is any truth in the rumours then they are 2 grown men let them sort it between themselves there is no loyalty in football if eck has a better offer on the table than St Mirren he’d jump at it.
