Deekthebuddie
A mate who works in the town centre, although not a saints fan, mentioned someone remarkably like Yardley was having a stoat about in the sun? Anybody hear of this or did my mate just see a baldy bloke who is a bit fond of the doughnuts? Liked the boy when he was with us

Mid Calder Saint
I have seen Mark a few times in Edinburgh. He moved from East Cslder a number of years ago. He now works in Edinburgh Business Park and I last saw him in the Gyle Shopping Centre. He is a real gent and is extremely proud of his Saints career. JM1
Didn't big Yards once say "Promotion is the carrot at the end of the tunnel"? What a guy. Loved him at Saints.

TopCat
He was at hospitality for a home game last season, top guy. He was my favourite Saints player ever, until Thommo came.

Edinbuddie
Big yards was a great player, vastly underrated outside of Saints fans. I've recently had a discussion in the office with an Ayr & Dundee fan, both of whom were slagging him as an overweight waster. It's amazing how the media's mud sticks! I think it was Ewing Graham (not exactly averse to a pie himself) who wrote an embarrassment of an article about Yards back in 2000/2001. He was a right good player for us, scored a lot of goals but was an intelligent player as well, held it up well and brought other's into the game. Much maligned and vastly underrated outside those of us who saw him on a regular basis.
class of 76-77
I bumped into Mark at a pre season game a few years ago and he was an absolute gent. He loved his time with us and has a genuine affection for the club and the fans. He was a fantastic servant to the club and very underrated as a player, by both the media and opposition fans alike. Scored for fun against Morton, and the winner in the cup tie will live long in my memory. Edited July 31, 2014 by class of 76-
JM1
the winner in the cup tie will live long in my memory. Was this his last goal for the club? Does footage of this goal even exist? In my head, he twisted and turned around about 9 Morton players (reality probably 2) before putting it in the bottom corner. What a great goal - maybe it's better to never see it again.Wasn't that the same day that David Hopkin played for Morton? Didn't Scotland also draw 2-2 in the Faroes that day? He came back from the 99/00 season overweight and had only about 4 games in the SPL that season, then got farmed out to Forfar for bragging about his wages and causing dressing room unrest, however, no one can take away his fantastic season when st Mirren won the first division under tom hendrie. Sergie's no1 fan
Seen him a few times at the Tynecastle away games. Always gets a good reception. Nothing but respect for the big chap. Is it not true Morton recorded that game but refused to give us a copy of the video? If that goal was scored by Rooney you'd be seeing it every day. I think opposition fans gave him stick because he was a very easy target. Sometimes rammed it down their throats, always seemed to do it against Morton. I remember a midweek cup game against Ayr, he came on as a sub and the Ayr fans were cheering. 1 minute later he banged a header into the top corner and shut them up. Think we still went out though, maybe 3-2 to Ayr?

Julian Banjos
Here he is in '95 a couple of months after he signed for us at the age of 26. After going full-time with us, he must have put on the best part of a stone every season! A shame that he never showed that he could do it in the SPL. Really intelligent forward who could set up and score goals.

The first game of the season against Killie he bizarrely featured on the wing. Then Tom Hendrie spent most of the season thinking we should play football instead of playing to Yardley's strengths. The penny finally dropped in the last few games of the season Yardley got starts, we were more direct, he scored a couple of goals and we got better results. Still disgracefully overweight right enough.
Dalrybud
Never forget that wonderful winning goal in LC against Morton in extra-time. Must have dribbled the ball past the opposition at least twice before scoring. Genius.

The way he dribbled past so many Morton defenders leaving them standing as he picked his spot in the bottom corner. I loved the big man he was a cult hero, he is part of our proud history and deserves nothing but respect for his all round contribution and goal tally in the stripes.
