I think you can apply that to us as well. He was terribly out of shape under Ian Murray and Alex Rae (in one of the few things I'll ever give him credit for) had him work on his fitness and condition and that coincided with 10 goals in the second half of that season. By time he came back the following season, he'd enjoyed pre-season too much and was out of shape for both us and Morton. I think the very real threat of being on the scrapheap at 21 has given him the same sort of boost that Dobbie ending up at Dumbarton all those years ago did to him.
