No Shull, I will not allow your depressing outlook on life to be bolstered by pishy fact grabbing without a modicum of intellect.  You are one of those fun hoovers, devoid of joy and ambition.

Purchasing a player of quality, whom we can afford at a time when we need him is NOT akin to the nonsense that nearly saw us go out of business in the early 1990's.  I recall those days all too well.  What should we use our income for?  paying off managers every year or occasionally should we invest in the team when an opportunity like this presents itself.

Teams around us occasionally "throw the dice" and teams around us occasionally break into the top six.  Saint Johnstone, Motherwell and Kilmarnock all regularly out perform us whilst we are always left looking on.  It is time that we redoubled our efforts and tried to match those who leave us behind every year.  None of those three clubs are bigger than us but they DO deliver better league positions year on year.....this depressing fact shows that our club is NOT doing as well as it should be.

With money coming in from players like Kenny McLean and John McGinn would it be reasonable to spend SOME of that cash on a quality player (who can always be sold on) or should we stay in the bargain basement having never tried?

Selling players for profit (like the two above) is essential but if we cannot re-invest something in the team then what is the point?

Big Mihai would in all likliehood generate a profit as players of his quality don't tend to stay in Scottish football long before an overly rich English club comes a calling!

    EVERY-SINGLE-THREAD[emoji35]

What the f**k is wrong with you guys (you know who you are) that you have to drag every thread into the mire with your petty bickering. Nobody gives a f**k so do us all a favour and take it elsewhere.

This thread was about Goody. The amount of posts that have f**k all to do with his appointment are just depressingly familiar.

Alan Stubbs got a 4-liner when we binned him for being garbage and incapable of arriving to take training in a fit state for work: https://www.stmirren.com/news/club/all-news/2144-club-statement-alan-stubbs
Oran always conducted himself well and the great escape 2 bettered the original great escape under Jack Ross. The club look churlish with their 2 line statement. I have no problem with Oran planning to commute twice a week. I'm quite sure he was still contactable and working online for us and his commutes were after matches or coinciding with days off.

Mate, you’re not going to corner the market on that one. We’ve all had our baws booted one time too many supporting this team. It’s character building.

    Take a breath and relax.

Really? 52 years of devotion and you’ll throw that away because the BOD aren’t telling you why a manager who’s been with us for less than a year is leaving?

How the f**k did you get through Jack leaving and the subsequent Stubbs Omni-shambles?

I don’t get the anti Lyons feeling amongst a certain element. Why oh why does there have to be a boo boy for the more rabid fans to froth over? I always felt the boy gave 100% in every game he played

See the people who defend Stubbs on here... do they actually go to games ? That 4 games sacked pish annoys the life out me... that bedfred cup run was shambolic. If getting taught a lesson by Spartans at home is what you call a sign of a good manager then deary me! Still not 100 percent convinced on Kearny but he is night and day to that muppet we had before.

If Stubbs had had his way MacKenzie, Baird, Flynn and Stephen McGinn would have been out the door. And considering the quality of signings he did make we would not have had Hladky and Popescu. So in last night's formation we would have had Danny Rogers in goal, a back three of Jones, Heaton and Kpekawa with Willock and Edwards playing in midfield. However we would not have been at Tannadice last night as we would have already been relegated.

Yesterday I had a remarkable 85 year old at the game who watched Saints regular in the 50's and early 60's. He always aske's me about Saints. So I said I will take you to a game. This 85 year old got the overnight Thursday train to London to be a speaker for a fellow Golfer funeral. All his expenses were paid. With no hotel he came back Friday night again overnight train ( he wanted to keep costs low )  and be back for the St Mirren game. I thought he will be too tired 85 remember. There he is with me for the 12.15 ferry what a man. After the game we went to Elderslie Golf Club he wanted me to see a large Cabinet dedicated to him as he was a special local golfer who was invited to the Masters in America but could not afford the expense of going out there. No sponsorship in these day's. After the game which was not a classic he said what a goal going on about it. He said Ian you know what surprised me. What Stuart ? The Fans what a support they are fantastic getting behind the team. He went on they sang in my day but not like that. Took him home lost his wife 3 years ago. Got his own flat I got invited in for tea. Kept thanking me , how can you not do something for a fellow Buddie. Went home with a lump in my throat wishing my own dad was still here.

The reason the manager wouldn't see that is because it wasn't happening.
    We weren't being overrun.
We were defending deep, surrendering possession and trying to hit them on the counter-attack, just as we did against Aberdeen and Hearts away. We weren't making any attempt to win the ball in areas where it wasn't any danger to us.

Just back in from the pub and had a quick glance at this thread??
So rather than comment on what has been said before.. I saw a very determined Saints team that matched the horrible way that the opposition play football. We were certainly not free flowing but in our situation and with that weather could we expect anything different?
I also saw our "defensive" midfielder run 60-70 yards, in the last few minutes of the game,  to get on the rebound of a tremendous run and shot by Simeon and get his reward. I have no idea how he scored as I was too busy looking for the linesman putting his flag up for offside (the St. Mirren fan in me!)
I then found myself running down steps in the main stand to pass on my regards to the Livingston manager ( the wee one not the big one).
After waiting to clap the team off the pitch, I  was leaving the ground and looked across to W7 and found there was still a band of fans singing a song that I have no idea what it was.
Glad to see there are people still up for the fight and not point scoring on here!

Agree with all that. I still think confidence is shot to all hell - we played some decent stuff at the weekend, but also treated the ball like a hot potato at times as well. Hopefully a result at Pittodrie in a game we could easily have won will help to improve confidence.
You also saw the Duck raging at one point (ok, more than one point, but I'm thinking of one in particular  ) when he had the ball deep on the right (in our half) and nobody was giving him an out ball. Again these are things that will improve when the p[layers know each other's games better.
A word on Popescu, though: love that big man. Being potentially able to sign him permanently is becoming one of my top reasons for wanting to stay up

Think we can put to bed the notion that this squad is no better than it was pre-window.

Hearts next week leaves us in a similar situation but out of that, we'll get a bit more cohesion by time the games come against teams around us. Livi on March 2nd is going to be f**king massive.

All things even that's a good point but Dundee winning is a kick in the stones.
By and large a rather disciplined performance and night and day compared to our last two visits to Pittodrie when we were dead after 25 minutes.

I think that now we have all our signings in,and most should be at a decent level of fitness, we should see more consistency in team selection. Hladky, Popescu and Musek are all certain starters due to their performances so far. I wouldn't bet against the new right back making that slot his own as well sooner rather than later, giving us decent defence. Up front I would expect Nazon and Jackson to start most games, with Nazon preferred over Jackson.
Midfield is the area that still provides most problems. Many were pleased with Tansey's signing, and most of those have now written him off completely. He is still a good player, and could still offer something, but we need the likes of McPherson, Lyons and Erhahon to give us energy in the midfield, with the likes of Dreyer and McAllister providing creativity.
I'm not writing us off yet. I'm aware that this patience will be alien to some on this thread, but I've been over this course before and would rather have hope than resignation to see me through.

My money is literally on OK to come good. My season ticket money now looks to being better spent with the players we have. The new structure has, in my opinion, helped to bring in a higher quality of player and there is now competition for places. It's all about points on the board however. No season for the faint hearted. A tough fight to the end of the season lies ahead.

No you didn't, you asked what Oran had shown us, you asked for opinion there is a big difference, I gave you what you asked for there's a fact for you!

Anyway as I said I do not think it is too late but we are getting to that point soon where it will be. Your opinion (Not fact, see the difference) is that it is already too late, my opinion is different that does not make me deluded just hopeful, perhaps you should look up some definitions in the dictionary.

    Here's some facts for you:
We are 6 points behind 10th place
There are 39 points to play for
6 of the 39 points are against the 10th based team

The league is not over till its over, do I think we can stay up? with our form up to now No chance. Am I hopeful with the new players and the improvements that I have seen that we can stay up? Yes I am.

Mullen & Flynn were regulars in the second half of last season after they were signed, although Mackenie's injury history was well known I don't remember to remember any outrage last May to the one year deal and the Stewarts & Kirkpatrick were bought as squad players for the Championship and had continuing contracts anyway - at the time only Hippolyte fell short of what you would have expected. I'll stick with my opinion that too much time was wasted between the Ipswich approach for JR and Stubbsy's appointment.

SP... That's part of the problem.  I already said that I don't know the lad. What I do see is what others see.  Real or not are the tweets and other social media coverage of the boy and W7. These don't paint a pretty picture. Very 1960's Angry Young Men,  railing against authority. Nothing new.  I'll get stick for mentioning this but myself and others put our hands in our pockets to support Josh in his crowdfundibg so we can't be said to be against either him or the W7 Group.  Time to grow up and stop kicking against authority.  Would be nice to get back to us all just supporting the team Come on Saints.  Come on W7.

JR rebuilt them in the summer and while going well, some still want him out anyway (I imagine they were expecting to ease to the title).
Kearney has only just (sort of) completed his rebuild, doing what he could in January largely by having to rely on loans.
JR did well with us. Kearney did well with Coleraine. His tactics never seem to be great starting a match, but he does have the balls to change things early (Baird v ‘Well, Flynn v Alloa). Would be ideal if he had it sorted at the start. He must have been doing something right at Coleraine though considering where they ended up after 7 years with him. Clueless is the word I’d keep for Stubbs who couldn’t get Hibs promoted, and was shite with both Rotherham and us. Kearney has proven ability to turn a club around, as does Jack Ross. Unfortunately fans want change immediately. Coleraine may have never reached the heights they did if they ousted Oran early. Burnley allowed Dyche the chance to have another shot at the Championship after relegation. If there’s enough fight in this team to the end of the season (something that DOES NEED to improve), I’d be fine with Oran staying in charge come summer, staying up or going down. If we go down in a pitiful manner then I would want change.
