You thought Plummer was poor against Hamilton? He was one of the few on the park to get pass marks...he strolled through the game and looked a class above the rest of the team! I almost felt the need to personally apologise to him! Were you at the match?
Also...Isma? Consistent? The guy gained legendary status for a few huge performances and a few massive goals and I'll alway be grateful to him for that, but let's be honest, he looked pretty uninterested a lot of the time. A great player but never consistent...

No matter how bad Goodwins fouls are he is highly likely to get booked, due to his style of play.
Now as a St Mirren supporter should you not get behind the team and support every individual player. The man will be absolutely devastated he got sent off today. And you come on here and call Jim Goodwin a liability. Shame on you.
Jim is his own worse enemy at times but he doesn't deserve to be called a liability.

Have to say I do think a commanding centre half is worth throwing up for corners, they can chip in with the odd goal. The last centre back we had that was any use for that was Chris Innes, a player in his mould would be good for us, but only if he is a true quality player.

I think a shade of realism is required about the standard of player we can expect to sign. We can't sign an experienced, 6'2", quick, strong, intelligent, ball playing centre half, because playing for St Mirren is neither attractive nor lucrative enough for us to snare that kind of player.
Luckily for us, all the other Premiership clubs are faced with the same problems and therefore end up signing the same calibre of player we do.
Our options at the back might not be brilliant, but there aren't many sides who are any better off. Celtic and Aberdeen are probably the only 2 who have much better strength in depth. There are individuals at other clubs I would take, like Scott Boyd from County and Soutar from Dundee United, but few pairings who are streaks ahead of us in terms of ability.
It's all to do with how the defence is organised by the manager and protected by the midfield.

I have no clue whether we're going to sign a centre half or not, all I know is, if we do sign one, it'll be because Tommy Craig thinks he will improve the starting 11. I think it's clear already that he'd much rather give guys like Williams a chance, than pay some waster god knows how much a week to sit on the bench just to appease the fans, and I can't say I disagree with him. I don't know about anyone else, but I have no desire to see our club's, already tight, budget stretched even further to sign someone just for the sake of it.

Chris Porter, Michael Higdon, Billy McKay, Scott Vernon, Adam Rooney, Chris Killen, John Sutton, Jon Daly...there's many, many more. It's not exactly far fetched to think that a player who's relatively unknown in Scotland can come from the Football League with a fairly modest goal scoring record and make an impact in the SPL. It's not a sure thing, but it's certainly not a massive gamble. In my opinion he's exactly the type of player we should be looking at.

Seemed very comfortable at centre half any time I watched him. I'm glad to see him back. Consistent performer, plays anywhere across the back, plenty of experience, won't be costing the earth. Good signing.

    You really can't win.
If we'd been beaten, the usual suspects would have been on predicting gloom and doom for the season ahead, because we're shite, pish etc.
In fact it only took 15 minutes for the chief doommonger to post his portents of doom and that *we'll be cast adrift at the bottom of the league and relegated.(*see P&B )
When we win, they usually tell us it's only a friendly, it has no bearing on the season ahead.
However, most of us who have a relatively normal state of mind, will see the negatives as something to work at and the positives to build upon. We can generally move on from players we've released, rather than pining after them like a lost girlfriend, and instead focus upon the players we do have, particularly the new players and the youngsters who need all the support that they can get.
My advice is to put them on ignore.
We all know that the squad is not complete and in an ideal world, it would be. However, having experienced supporting (note the true meaning of this word) St.Mirren for years, we should be used to the fact, that things never run smoothly.
We will sign players for the positions we require over the next couple of weeks. We might not agree on the personnel that we bring in, but that's part and parcel of supporting a football team.
As for the Dundee results. I thought friendly results were meaningless when you won...................................

First time I've seen them this pre-season, I was impressed by both Marwood and Caldwell, Marwood was particularly good and already seems to have formed a strong understanding with the team, most notably Gregg Wylde, they had 3 or 4 clever exchanges, one of which led to the goal.
I liked the look of Brown in the 2nd half too. A lot of confidence on the ball for such a young guy. Made a couple of Andy Dorman style late runs into the box, very promising.
I'd like to see the trialist again, but, being his 2nd trial match, I'm guessing yesterday was more or less make or break for him. Looked accomplished on the ball, good control, 2 footed passing. Wasn't stretched too much defensively but lost out in a couple of arial battles with Barrowman.
A nervous display from Mo Yacub, but still showed some nice touches and a good bit of dig, I'm sure he'll feature a fair bit this season.
Lastly, I'm not Cheesy's biggest fan sometimes, but he looked 10 feet tall wearing the armband yesterday, and played brilliantly. The long drilled pass he played along the deck for Marwood in the first half was exceptional.

Nah...we don't play Kilmarnock til the 13th September, that's the 6th league game of the season. He'll have been dropped by then. Having played 90 minutes in the first game, being subbed off after an hour in the 2nd, coming off the bench after 75 in the 3rd and appearing for 5 minutes in the 4th, he should then go on to be mostly an unused sub, appearing only occasionally for 3 minutes if Killie are up by 1 going into injury time...so I don't reckon he'll have much playing time to haunt us with, unless Kilmarnock are beyond brutal...
