gc_SMFC
Just watched the highlights that defending for the goals. That's painful viewing. Every player seems to turn off as soon as a player of the ball goes past them. To lose a goal from a throw in when we have that many players back is concerning. The midfield especially didn't bother covering for any of the defenders. Well taken first and third goals, second was about actually putting the ball in a dangerous area. A lot of work needs to be done with the team, on positioning if we want to give ourselves a fighting chance.

irvine_buddie
Great strikes for our 1st and 3rd goals and finally a bit of luck for the 2nd! Terrible defending for both the goals we conceded though, Irvine should never have let the ball get played in for the 1st and someone (Mackenzie?) just lets Dobbie walk away from him unmarked for the 2nd. TopCat
That defending for the two goals we lost The first goal in particular, is that Irvine who fluffs the original long ball over the top? FFS.Two excellent strikes from our youngsters got us out the hole our defence dug us. We can't rely on that every week if we are going to stay up though, we are going to need to start keeping something called... clean sheets.Another thing I noted from the week was the goal from Ben Gordon. Goals from defenders from set pieces is an asset for any team. We have had two in the league all season, both from Gordon. One the other night the other the consolation against Morton. Despite spending most of the season at Alloa he's scored two more than Webster, McKenzie, Irvine and Naismith combined. Baird did score two in the league cup to be fair. Suppose it's good to finally have a defender who carries a threat in the opponents box.

MacKenzie is also a threat from set-pieces - very unlucky not to score after it went to 2-2, plus it's effectively an assist for Gordon's goal. Irvine is the main offender for the first but the way Dobbie just wanders between Naismith and Gordon is poor. Similarly, the attempts from Quinn and the other defender (think it's Gordon) to clear in the build=up to the second are laughable Good ti finally see how Gordon's goal went in as there was a big pole in the way. Also, dunno about anyone else, but the video keeps stuttering just as Mallan's shot is about to go in. Must be these Dumfries servers... pozbaird
Just now, Drew said: Valid point. While my enthusiasm for watching the almost unrelenting dross on display this season has matched my desire to be given the Michael Ball and Alfie Boe CD for Christmas.... a St Mirren win is still a St Mirren win, and was long, long overdue. Deflection, own goal, clearly offside, blatant handball by a Saints player, Jack Ross running unseen onto the park to trip up the Queens left-back... Could. Not. Give. A. Flying. Fcuk. The defending is woeful, especially the 1st goal, Must be a coaches nightmare watching schoolboy mistakes, But young Kyles goal was a beauty, Lads got a massive future, Also Mallans goal was a cracker also, If we could get our defending right, we would be winning games easily, Edited December 8, 2016 by santaponsasaint
Eaglesham saint
How many times this season have we seen Gordon's goal go past or over the bar, into the keepers arms a wee bit rub of the green

Must be these Dumfries servers... Strangely, the Facebook footage of that goal, taken from some guy's phone, stutters at the exact same point in time. Can only assume there was some sort of supernatural intervention at the goal that interfered with cameras. Probably the simplest explanation for us winning three points. MarkL
The highlights don't show a single second of celebrations which is extremely disappointing Do you think the club don't want to show fans on the park?
