Griff
I actually enjoyed watching him in his first couple of seasons , he was also excellent during our promotional season. I wonder how good a player he would have been , if he had been picked up at an earlier age , and been coached , had access to dieticians , and fitness specialists . He had something , that made him awkward to play against , was exceptional in the air , and had a wee bit of skill . Loved watching him partner Basher

SaintPaul
I'd rather than have the big man than some of the 'strikers' we've had since. Mehmet, Magennis, Wardlaw to name just a few.
pod
I've heard it in good authority, but it might just be a rumour, that Yardley was not in Paisley, it was just a rumour.

JM1
Does anyone actually give a fuck if Mark Yardley was/is fat? He was a fantastic player for St Mirren - definitely one of my favourite players of all time.

Magic Monkey
One of my favourite Saints players. The fact the opposition fans used to rip the piss made it even sweeter. I can see the same in Callum Ball. We've got plenty players who can do lots of running now - CB can hang around the box and mop up.

Deekthebuddie
If he was its good that the guy hasnt forgotten the place and maybe he will visit St Mirren park soon, maybe have him out at half time to say something to the fans if the club want to make it an occassion. The big guy did well for us and sure a lot of fans would like to see him again.

murray street
He's a real legend right enough http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/local-news/big-breakfast-named-honour-roly-poly-2593406 Big breakfast named in honour of roly-poly St Mirren star ROLY-POLY St Mirren legend Mark Yardley is making a big impression on football fans once again...thanks to a massive BREAKFAST which has been named in his honour. Mark became a firm favourite with Saints supporters during his playing days as he bagged a barrel-load of goals, despite his less-than-athletic frame. Now the owner of a fast food van which is based outside St Mirren Park has paid tribute to the former striker by launching the ‘Mark Yardley Big Breakfast,’ which consists of two rashers of bacon, two square sausages, two potato scones, two slices of black pudding, two eggs, beans, toast and a buttered roll. Roy Henderson has even erected a huge billboard opposite the stadium which features Mark – who was often teased by opposition fans over his weight – tucking into one of the mammoth breakfasts. And the Saints legend has proved he is game for a laugh by giving the calorie-laden meal his blessing – in return for a free feed whenever he visits Paisley. Mark – who was nicknamed ‘Boom Boom’ by St Mirren supporters because of his robust playing style – told the Paisley Daily Express: “At first, I thought the breakfast thing was a wind-up, especially with all the torment I’d had over the years from opposition fans and the Press. “Then I got talking to Roy and it became apparent that he is a Paisley man who is wanting to further his business, so I was happy to help. “If it helps him to make his business more successful, then that’s great. “I haven’t tried the big breakfast yet but, the next time I go through to see St Mirren play at home, I’ll definitely pay a visit to Roy’s van. “What he doesn’t know is that I’ll be bringing a bus-load of pals through to Paisley to take him up on his ‘free burgers for life’ offer.” Roy, owner of the ‘Buddie Good Grub’ fast food van, said the big breakast, which costs £3.50, is proving to be a smash hit with his customers. He added: “Most of my clientele are young men who think they are big eaters but it takes a bit of effort for them to finish the Mark Yardley Big Breakfast. “It is a great meal for those who want something in their stomach before a big night out drinking or for those who want to shift a hangover.” Mark starred for St Mirren from 1995 until 2003 and helped them win the First Division title back in 2000. In that 2000 championship season, his tally of 19 goals led to him being presented with the Bell’s First Division Player of the Year award. Mark netted a total of 71 goals in 263 appearances for the Buddies – earning him a place in the Paisley club’s all-time top 10 scorers. And Roy admits he was a huge fan of the huge striker. He added: “Mark was one of my favourite players when I was growing up. He bagged so many goals for us and many of them were really important ones. “He’ll be a hero in Paisley forever.” Edited September 2, 2014 by murray street
