So, to summarise, Boris wasn't to blame for the high volume of deaths in care homes and was closer to the truth this week when he mentioned that some care homes hadn't followed hygiene guidlines and were, in fact, to blame for the outbreaks and resulting deaths?

You'll not be popular with the witch hunters in here.

There's no doubt that the strategy of transferring untested patients into care homes led to the spread of the virus in care homes, it also led to care homes being accredited for deaths that wouldn't have happened on their watch, if they hadn't been forced to take them.

The company that my wife works for had only one home in the north of Scotland with Covid deaths. That was a care home who had four untested patients forced upon them and they all died. Fortunately, their isolation practices were up to scratch and it didn't spread to existing residents.

Her company were one of the first companies to isolate patients so had relatively few deaths. Although, they still had people moaning about patients being isolated and that they couldn't be visited. They couldn't win.

The homes that were affected badly were in hotspots like Inverclyde and Glasgow where the virus had a high prevalence, with a lot of staff being infected as a result. Unfortunately 100% prevention of passing on the virus is just not possible in care homes, especially as many were struggling to obtain PPE, through no fault of their own, and the highly infectious nature of this virus.

Undoubtedly, there were some care homes with less effective measures in place, who were masters of their own downfall. That can't be ignored.

There is a nationwide shortage of staff for care homes, which the UK government are going to make worse with their refusal to put social care workers on the Brexit points list, and some of the larger companies, had to transfer staff from one care home to another. That's what happened on Skye, with the care home staff from England being blamed for carrying the virus into the care home. I'm sure that must have happened elsewhere and spread the virus where it might not have reached.

Boris may well be right about some care homes not following instructions, but in his usual crass and manner, the dribbling buffoon is trying to blame everyone but his own government, who are not most certainly not without culpability.

I disagree and will only repeat that he said SOME care homes, as you have also agreed, were the victims of their own bad practices.

The UK government certainly have made mistakes, as have the Scottish government, which is partially understandable in this clusterfcuk of a mess.

The great British public, many reaching new levels of hypocrisy, are also not blameless.

Three quarters of people with flu don’t have symptoms....

does anyone else know of a virus like this?

 https://www.nhs.uk/news/medical-practice/three-quarters-of-people-with-flu-have-no-symptoms/

I wonder where the flu goes in the summer?

No need to worry in future though. Nicola Sturgeon is going to eliminate it 😂😂😂

He actually said "too many". Whether you interpret that as leaning towards the majority or otherwise, he didn't make any comment accepting any blame relating to his government.

This sums it up nicely.

Quote

The head of a leading social care charity condemned Johnson’s comments as “clumsy and cowardly”. Mark Adams, the chief executive of Community Integrated Care, told the BBC they reflected “a Kafkaesque alternative reality where the government set the rules, we follow them, they don’t like the results, and they then deny setting the rules and blame the people that were trying to do their best”.

With cases and fatalities dropping, despite life returning to normal for may people, could this virus be disappearing?

The initial catchphrase that it's "still out there" is becoming less believable by the week.

The majority of countries have seen the virus slither away, and in some case, totally disappear.

The focus by the media is on the countries, like the USA, who are still struggling to contain it.

No mention of the hundreds of countries who have reported NO deaths day by day.

Hundreds of countries?

There's only about 2 hundred countries in total you utter spangle.

But yes, the virus is going away and we've nearly eradicated it within Scotland.

The talk of "it's not gone" is for the numpties out there who might engage in activities which could bring it back before we eradicate it completely.

How we keep it from re-entering the country in future is more of a problem but IMO we are probably a month or two from all internal cases being zero.

Aye, hundreds, damn, meant lots.

Only 36 countries reported more than 10 deaths yesterday, no reporting of that in the main media outlets.

Numpties, like not wearing a mask?

I am in two minds about whether to comply with this stupid rule of wearing a mask.

Right now I am veering towards not wearing it and seeing what they do about it.

It will be interesting to see how many openly defy this. If it's more than a handful I think things could get tasty quite quickly.

The WHO shows very clearly that the rate of infection continues to grow steeply worldwide.

Better, but not exactly, good news from the WHO is that, despite the above, deaths from the virus, whilst not falling, are staying roughly the same.

So, in some countries, the control measures appear to be having an impact, whilst in others the control measures are either inadequate or not being adhered to.

Back to Scotland. After a faltering start the government has led a sound campaign in providing clear guidelines for the population to follow and through reasonably high rates of adherence by the population has achieved good results.

Importing fresh cases which have the potential to go untraced has been recognised in the Scottish Governments decisions on travellers from, or returning from other countries.

Wearing a mask when entering a shop must be the easiest of all of the things we have been asked to do. Feel silly... Get over it. Disagree medically... Tough but will save the NHS money if you need treatment or an operation as you clearly won't expect the doctors or medical staff to wear them.

It was always thus. Wake up.

Feel silly wearing a face mask... Get over it.
