St. Mirren v Dumbarton Betfred Cup 28/7/18

Recommended Posts

There is a lesson here for those who chose to write off this LC campaign before the last game. Never ever predict what is goin to happen in Scottish football. Right now we are going through as group winners, Motherwell are losing too. Good teams like Ross C. are capable of losing 4-1 to Arbroath. Teams like us are capable of struggling against Spartans and then giving Dumbarton a shoeing a week later.

We had and still have every chance pf getting through as long as we take care of our own business.

Sport is all about ups and downs and a few depressing Dementors could do with remembering that.

Half time 2-0

Yeah, good. The dominant performance you’d expect when premiership teams are playing part time teams.

Pushed Dumbarton back from the off, got an early goal from the overlapping full back Coulson. Continued to control the game and the second was coming when it was headed home from Smith.

Game over. Where was this kind of performance against Spartans and QP...?

Because it never came we will probably need a goal or two more to get through here. Unless QP can hold on against Killie and win on penalties...

Anyway, impressive performances from Willock and P McGinn on the right and Magennis and Coulson on the left. All four have drifted inside and out and got into dangerous situations. Two of which have ended up in goals.

Good performance. I would like to see a bit more from big Ross. I hope he stays on for the 90 and gets some shots off.

We look a lot sharper than recent games. Kyle had a great 1st half and is linking up well with Coulson. Willock has settled in nicely and looks like he has a bit about him - definately going to be a major player for us.  All good so far, another couple of goals will do nicely
