Formation / system

Recommended Posts

By a strange series of events, Alan Stubbs has resigned, you have been appointed manager of St Mirren.

You have our current playing squad available, and can sign only 1 player before the window closes.

What formation would you play? What position would you choose to fill with a new player?

Going by Saturday's team v Livi

Keep it simple and stick to a system the players are familiar with.

We have such a glaring problem at left mid it’s not even funny. Stuck Coulson there for the time being. Also think Willock could interchange with Flynn.

For what its worth, I think we are moving towards this type of formation already. Still need an Experienced Centre Back, Experienced Physical Striker and Pacy Winger. These would, IMO, strengthen the team and allow for tactical changes. In the abscence of an Experienced Centre Back, I would play Jones in place of Kpekwa.

Subs

Muir (GK), Jones, Willock, McPherson, King, Mullen, Cooke

Rogers in for Muir when fit. P.McGinn and Eck in when returned from injury if Coulson/Hodson haven't been good enough. McKenzie straight in when back from injury unless we see major improvement at CB. McShane purely in because something needs to change as the current squad hasn't played well enough, and he has got goals in him. New signing at LM because we need it. Mullen isn't an out goal scorer so I'd try Brock up there and tell him to be a goal poacher, let the others do the work, just be in the box and give us an option to aim at. If he's still shite then try Cooke. Go back to Mullen if it's totally hapless.

Long term if certain players haven't improved, give opportunities to the likes of King, Cammy McPherson and Kirkpatrick when he returns.

That's not a bad team. Shame Stubbs won't go with that.
