Things You Would Like To Change About (New) St. Mirren Park

Re: atmosphere.

unless the club are prepared to really promote certain sections of the ground and initiatives to let like-minded people congregate together, it's going to take a good few years and new generation of fans before a go-to section is established.

love st evolved over decades to the stadium and layout it was. As you grew up following st.mirren, everyone migrated from various parts of the ground; you'd start watching with parents/grandparents in the main stand/enclosure/terracing, then shift together with your mates, before inevitably at some stage ending up in the north bank for a sing song.

Sadly, all those established areas and the folk in them were dispersed throughout the new ground on moving. Whatever your reasons, most folk chose a new seat in a specific area and have probably stuck with it.

Failing an intervention, then unfortunately I reckon it will take the next generation of supporters to naturally establish an area for themselves (attracting a next generation of fans is a very important issue in itself).

Alternatively, there are few other sure fire ways of creating an atmosphere. the team could try playing some consistent attacking fitba. Or give everyone a few pre-match beers. 100% of studies prove this to be true.

For all the talk of apex roofs and enclosed corners, you first need to create an atmosphere before you can retain it.

The reason why away games tend to have a better atmosphere amongst st.mirren fans is because all the fans including everyone willing and wanting to sing are forced together in the same small area of the ground...and a few beers are more likely to have been consumed.

i agree about the alcohol bit the only games i get to now are the partick ones (my local now) and have a few but not 2 many before the game and sing my heart out and we win there every time....i need to go to more games to see if it makes a diff....infact i don't think ive seen us lose many ive been to... enjoyed the motherwell game 2-0 down won 3-2

The slant of the seating is too "acute"

change it from "10 to 3" to "5 to 3"

Aye. 'Cause 3.00 pm certainly isn't working!

Move the stands closer to the pitch , fill in the corners , Supporters club in the void, standing area, bigger scoreboard, ...... ach f**k it , new stadium it is then !!

Naw. Face the stands away from the pitch!

Build more turnstiles, simply not enough.

.

Mibee. But the club are sorting that out by simply reducing the numbers coming through the same number of turnstyles. Cheaper option again?

I would like to see stands similar to Hamiltons. Ie raised off the ground with the concourse infront of the stand.

I sit in the back row and it's still too low to get a good view.

This.

I feel the club missed a trick when building the new ground (albeit they were constrained with what tesco was offering).

Not only would thus provide a better view, it could allow an area in front of the stand to be converted to terracing (if/when the rules change).

It would also create more space under the stands that could be leased out for a variety of uses (office space etc).

Create a cafe/bar area under/attached to the stand with TVs showing other games etc. To encourage fans to come to the game earlier or stay longer and spend more money at the game.

Make the place more black and white.

Fit free wifi transmitters all around the stadium (the 3G signal is rubbish, especially at HT)

Fit a big old fashioned clock at one of the ends (a la Highbury/Emirates)

Fit padded seats throughout the stadium (a la the Emirates).

Make the food stalls better. I'm thinking a subway, Gregg's, Starbucks, mcdonalds etc.

Several good ideas in your post.

But a real lack of ambition with the final line.

(Or am I being whooshed?)

No you're no being wooshed, just my personal preference. There's just nothing there just now that entices me to buy anything, it's pretty boring. The club could also create a partnership with a local bakers like Killie have done. Wellbread in renfrew always have people queuing out the door, for example.

Fill in the corner between south and west stands and make it safe standing and allow that area to generate the missing atmosphere, used to be the 'daft lads' section at Sunderland and generated plenty of noise, would allow those keen to have a singing section the area to do so an join both stands together. Also better facilities under the stands (TVs?) to keep customers where they'll spend before the match begins.

That's a bit obtuse...

NO RESERVED SEATING IN THE WEST BANK and W4 SAFE STANDING WILL CREATE THE ATMOSPHERE THE PLACE HAS BEEN LACKING SINCE IT OPENED.

Sick of getting mates to come to football and only seeing them at half-time.

ETA: The Void converted to a matchday bar/function suite would also help with cash and atmosphere.

Build more turnstiles, simply not enough.

Paint the horrid grey panels in the Main Stand black and white

Enlarge the tiny St Mirren Football Club sign in the Main Stand to a half decent size.

Paint the shoddy grey breeze blocks under the stands.

Get hot running water in the toilets.

Enclose all the bare electric and plumbing work under the stands to make it look semi-professional.

Wash the seats at least once a week, twenty quid to sit on manky seats is not on.

Sort out the electronic entry system, a complete nightmare when it goes wrong.

Paint black and white stripes on the outside panels of each stand, especially the Main Stand which looks like a cheap and shoddy finish (reminds me of the new Mill Street flats).

In actual fact bulldoze the purpose built cheap and nasty place (all the soul of a local supermarket) and return to Love Street.

Are you predicting more supporters.

Have you be to Love Street lately.

I know the footballs bad and the seats are dirty, but you don't want to be spending your twenty quid standing under the stand admiring the shoddy grey breeze blocks,

electrics and plumbing.

I would stop one of the songs that the "crazy northbank agaro" sing lol.giflol.giflol.giflol.gif

"We'll go wherever St Mirren go coz we are the northbank agaro"

Guys in their 40s and 50s singing a song that has no basis

in reality, feckin ridiculous, the same chumps bought

djemba djemba bunnets lol.gif

Maybe change the lyrics to "oldfart agaro" then it would

be relevant and cool lol.gif

I would like to see the four corners filled in with gigantic advertising boards similiar to Hibs Easter Road Stadium.Would like also to see airline advertising on the stand roofs. All the aforementioned would increase commercial income.Would be willing to give naming rights to our stadium if there is an interested sponsor for a substantial sum.

Black and white stripes painted on the outside of the stands. Surely wouldn't cost that much for a few tins of paint.

Problem is, it would be like PVC windows and gutters, I don't think paint will take to it. Would end up blustering and then it really would be shitty.

Think you would have to use a vinyl wrap.
