We Need Gus Macpherson

Absolutely no youth player has went on to prove McPherson wrong, in the regard of them being good enough.

He didn't put them on the bench so we didn't have to pay them a bonus.

I liked McPherson but I certainly don't see him coming back.

Get real here. As a manager you play the cards you're dealt. He didn't fill the bench because he was a stubborn b@st@rd and was highlighting the fact he wasn't allowed to sign more "Alan Johnstons" not because he wanted to save the club money.

I don't understand why people are saying we were hard to beat under Gus, rose tinted glasses in my opinion. Whilst anything would be better than what we have now, the last two seasons under Gus, whilst having the occasional highlight, consisted of non-football, lack of anything resembling forward play, and multiple cases of conceding goals to either lose or draw games in the last 10 minutes of games. Maybe the current rubbish we're being served has clouded the judgement of some, but Gus back? Absolutely not.

Absolutely this^^^^^^

We were negaitive and dominated by the mantra of not losing a goal, thereby not losing a match. Yet the number of times we lost late goals was just a joke, sitting back and bring on the inevitable, phuck me.

We were murder under G Mac after his first honeymoon season getting us up and then his 'crowning glory', Fir park , when we were all but down and out and he HAD to send on two forward minded players, Mehment and Sutton. The team back then should always have had them starting every single week.

Following season I think, holding on at home against a Hamilton side that if they beat us by three I think would have had us down. We were truly parking buses that day as well.

Never forget either , sitting in for extra time against nine from you know who at Hampden, truly impossible to believe.

Enough, even now I still cringe....................thumbdown.gif

Youre heads wasted. There's no way St Mirren "sat in" against 9 man Rangers. It was the fact St Mirren went for it in 90 minutes that was the problem that day. Just think about the goal that was lost FFS. Caught on the counter.

Yeh, cos things were so much better before Gus arrived and they are so much better now....

Its a disgrace that Gus only had us surviving in the SPL and reaching cup finals.

Much better to be battling against relegation to the 3rd tier...

You've really got to wonder what planet some Saints fans are on! :1eye

Oh ffs lol.gif

He had his time with us, some thought he was great , others thought less so, his time is hopefully passed for us.

Tsk, your misplaced, agitated, pious and sarcastic demeanour suggests maybe a yellow card is due for petulant simulation

Yes that was a sore one.

However he took us from a similar situation that we are currently in to the top flight and a cup final. At least we almost won the cup that day. How long till we see another major cup final?

The semi final on Saturday however was an embarrassment.

How easy it is in times like these, to look back with blinkered eyes to managers who were not quite a bad as Ian Murray. I say this only in degrees of course. One might conveniently forget Gus referring fans to the cinema for forms of entertainment or being unable to cajole a team to victory over 9 men. It may also be possible to forget Danny and his suspiciously bad record against Celtic (one match excepted), his poor signing policy or the fact we rarely ever won at home ( some things never change though). As for Craig and Teale, the less said the better.

No, its pretty clear that Saints was the high point in all those chaps careers, as they have proceeded to do nothing of consequence since then. Perhaps Danny can do us a belated favour by saving us from automatic relagation though.

We seem to specialise in having managers who are either dense or arrogant. I will leave it to others to decide which was which, lol.

In response to your plea.......................... sorry he had his chance and when you can't change your tactics when the opposition is down to 9 players and you have 11 on the field and you continue to be defensive, negative and predictable, your tea is oot!

(As you can see it still smarts 5 years later!)

Earlier on, on this thread Isle of Bute Saint stated that we were clutching at straws in who would be our next manager, I could not agree more, yet its completely understandable to guess who would/should be our next manager giving the present incumbent. Numerous names have been mentioned, with the front runner appearing to be Gus McPherson. I really don,t think Gus McPherson is the answer and I would seriously doubt the BOD,s would have him back, given his arrogant behavior when he was manager that combined with the fact that since leaving us his record as the manager of other clubs has been less than impressive.Danny Lennon who would cost us some compensation to get him, the way the BOD,s stabbed him in the back by not renewing his contract and appointing his assistant the next day and although he won us the Scottish League Cup and at one point took us to our highest league position, he also failed to keep to his word, stating he would have us a top 6 side in his tenure as manager, his record in the transfer market was deplorable, and he too has done very little since leaving St.Mirren, currently the Manager of Part-time Alloa who sit bottom of the Scottish Championship.Tom Hendrie would be my choice however as has been said prior that,s us going back and clutching at straws.Plus at times he did not exactly endear himself with other club managers and caused the BOD,s a great deal of embarrassment, I also cannot remember if he went through with taking St.Mirren to an industrial tribunal.

In my opinion, and I have said it before, the club will promote from within, and give Alex Miller the manager-ship till the end of the season, hopefully the BOD,s will then be in financial a better position, and give the job of manager to a manager with more than experience than Murray and who was until recently manager of side that managed to leak in 79 goals.

I would like to think we went for it against 9 men

But our tactics were dreadful,we had no width apart from 2 full backs who were having howlers more or less every cross out the park

He made us too narrow and easy to defend against.

The goal we lost.Lost the ball at the centre of the pitch and 2 passes later Naismith was out wide and cross over to Miller who done the deed

I liked Gus when he was manager, but I don't think going back the way is really the answer.

We need a new manager who will unite the fans from the off, and that definitely wouldn't be the case with Gus in the dugout.

I think Jimmy Calderwood would fit the bill for me, at least until the end of the season.

Experienced. Check.

Scottish football experience. Check.

Plays decent style of football. Check.

Good contact book. Check.

The only question marks would be about him working with young players. Hasn't done much with youth as far as I can see. Also seems a bit of a wheeler dealer and I'm not sure what we've got to wheel and deal with !

Also he is rated as a coach which is over looked

Everyone seems to think he's just a Scottish Harry Rednapp

Yet another impressive result for Gus's Queens Park today, beating the filthy Ton 2-0 following on from beating Livi last week.

The Spiders are currently 5th in league 1 after their promotion from League 2 last year.  Wee Baldy certainly has them punching above their weight.

Am I right in saying Gordon Scott was a big fan of Gus when he was a director? I vaguely remember him being against his sacking when it happened, could be wrong.

If our incumbent were to be removed, is the return of McPherson so unrealistic?

I am sure there is a number of bright new managers careers we can kibosh ahead of a burning Gus's career again.

that Jack Ross is getting too big for his boots, mibbaes time he was brought back down to earth with the paisley factor?

I think Danny Lennon was a better manager than Gus Macpherson, but the truth is you can't go backwards. Yogi fits the bill, or Jack Ross though that would be more of a risk, however as I understand it we can't afford to sack Rae all we can hope for is he has enough dignity that he feels he has to resign.
