When McGowan got told to leave I felt like the only person on here who thought it was a bad decision to give away one of our best players who has experience of playing for Celtic in spl and Europe as well as nearly getting a Scotland call up. We were never going to replace someone of that quality but yet our support were all saying good riddance!

He is still playing first team football in the same league. When did he play for Scotland.

If he was still at Saints who would you have dropped yesterday ?

Former Celtic player Scott McDonald has been released from his contract at Millwall to allow him to find another club. He is 31.

Get him signed til the end of season even if it costs a couple of grand a week.

Why are we debating McGowan at this stage of the season. He's gone to another club and quite frankly I couldn't give two f**ks. He's a liability off the park and will most likely be serving a custodial jail sentence some time in the near future.

He couldn't lace Kenny McLeans boots and the same goes for the kid Mallan, both are streets ahead of him in ability.

Absolutely.

How many goals has McGowan got this season?

None.

If he was at the club he wouldn't get a game.

I never said anything bad about mallan

I said he is a great prospect. McGowan would get a game for st.mirren. He plays for a team that is also on.the brink of the top six whilst we continue to rot in 11th. People need to have a look at themselves we are not a good team. We haven't won a home match, we haven't kept a clean sheet. Sure mallan is good so is McLean and mcginn (altho he isn't having a good season) the rest aren't upto much

Who would he get a game in place of then?

And McGowan was rubbish for us last season.

I was certainly one who wanted Gowser to stay but hey we are all allowed our opinion.According to the morning papers yesterday Gary Teale is certainly one of his admirers claiming he is good enough to play in the EPL.

Not going by his performance on saturday he's not. Like others have said a good player but just about summed up by the shot he took in the second half that went out for a throw in.

No end product

Do we still have a scouting system in place?????????

Oh for the days of Jacky Gilmour (the present chairman's uncle) when we had a scouting regime that was the envy of many wealthier clubs.

Surely there is a decent centre half or full back in the lower leagues or even in junior football that could shore up our porous defence?????? (Remember that we signed Frank McAvennie from Johnstone Burgh all these years ago.)

If we can't afford to sign anyone, could we not bring in a specialist defensive coach - someone who could coach the existing players - perhaps an ex player with that kind of background?????????? Hopefully that would not cost an arm and leg.

McGowan would be the first name on the team sheet! He controls games, can't say that about any of our current players. And the galling fact is he was our player and he wanted to stay! Edited by Big Yards

The last Scouts we had a SMP were a troop that got free tickets.

We would need to make room for him because he's the only player who has the ability to controls games. Nobody else can do that, not even mclean. Probably mallan or Osborne would be dropped to get him on the field.

Mallan controlled the midfield for much of the game on Saturday.

Then he was moved................................................................

McGowan couldn't lace Mallan's boots.

I've seen McLean control games on more than 1 occasion from the middle of the park and Mallan will be far better than McGowan was for us.

Am I reading this right? Did he control the game Saturday? When did he last control a game for us?

And who would you drop in favour of him?

McLean is twice the player McGowan ever will be. Mallan and McGinn are already better than him too, and they're both under 21.
