Don't see what all this excitement is for , don't yous think we should be concentrating more on on the field signings , we send 2 players back from loans brought 2 in so we are not further strengthened we need another 2 X players of decent quality if we are going to make any progression this season .

I'm sure the club and management team are a step ahead of you on this one.

If he is replacing Caldwell he is not exactly a "CEO". All the big decisions are taken by the board / SG.....or not taken as the case may be. The job title before was GM, which I think is a truer reflection.

For day to day running of the club, dealing with supporters, press, raising our profile etc we couldn't get a better man for the job.

In a nutshell.

Clever appointment by the board, cheaper and popular.

I recently read Fergie's latest book "Leading" which covers all manner of CEO attributes and how his experience in football has been used by various business schools.

A real page turner.

I'm sure people questioned Fergie installing a 17 year old as captain of a Scottish football club in the 70's.

I'm not sure there is a definitive guide to what attributes you must have to be a CEO.

What better person to have as General Manager/CEO than someone who has played hundreds of games, managed the club, dealt with staff, players, agents, contracts, press, supporters, etc than Tony Fitzpatrick.

For those questioning the appointment - If not Tony - then please offer a better alternative.

Fergie?

you surely need a sound business head to do the job, Tony a great saints man but surely up there with worst managers ever...

Really? Thank god you are here - seriously. I had no idea, until you blessed us with your untold wisdom, that a CEO needed to understand business.

Mind you, you then think that a poor football manager means he can't be a good CEO so maybe this is something else you really don't understand after all.

Also. Has fitzy not already either been declared bankrupt or lost a lot of money in business before I'm sure I read it somewhere

A lot of successful business have been bankrupt or at least diced with it.

It comes with the territory of being a risk taker.

If failure scares you then don't be a businessman.

WHO should be concentrating on this?

The board?

We have Alex for that so unless you are suggesting that Alex is being distracted by this I can't understand your point.

That's exactly what I'm saying get on field matters dealt with before appointing at chief executive or whatever the role shall be .

Tony a great saints man but surely up there with worst managers ever...

In his first spell in charge he took over a declining team but it was David Hay who got us relegated in 91/92 and we were mid table when he was sacked after a couple of poor results in Dec 98 - and for the bulk of that second spell he worked without an assistant to help the club. He wasn't a great manager, probably not even a good one, but he left Saints pretty much where he found them after both of his spells in charge. As a manager he was distinctly average - maybe not the best testimony but there it is.

His top priority must be to regrow that magnificent pornstar's moustache.

I absolutely love Tony and he will always be a legend but come on - he's never CEO material in a million years - heart ruling the head here folks.

Seriously - have a look at the other CEO's around in Scottish football ! Fitzy as a football man and Saint through and through which I would have thought is an excellent starting point in what primarily is a PR job in football terms. We are not talking about him being appointed CEO of a multi national bank here it's a small Scottish football club currently in the 2nd tier. He's more than up to it I'm sure.
